* Foremost presentation of NFC games featuring teams in most powerful markets (Dallas, New York City, Philadelphia, etc.)

* Must-see America's Game of the Week matchups include Cowboys at Bills, 49ers at Eagles & Cowboys at Jets

* Veterans Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas Day broadcasts carries on annual tradition of the NFL on FOX presenting biggest games on biggest days

* The historic 30th season of the NFL on FOX is in 2023!

Following a dreamlike season in 2022 which saw FOX Sports produce the most-watched regular season game and most-watched Super Bowl of all-time, the network celebrates 30 seasons of NFL coverage with the disclosing of the broadcast schedule for the 2023 NFL season.

FOX will be the main home for the league's biggest affairs during the 18-week regular season calendar with a lineup that includes a league-high nine appearances from the Dallas Cowboys, New York Giants, Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers. The NFL on FOX schedule includes at least 140 total appearances by NFC teams, and over 90% of NFL on FOX games feature at least one NFC team, continuing the network's time-honored tradition of presenting live coverage surrounding the teams in big and powerful markets.

FOX begins their 30th season on Sunday, September 10, with an exciting doubleheader headlined by the Green Bay Packers and the Chicago Bears in America's Game of the Week -- the No. 1 show all of television the last 14 years.

Top America's Game of the Week matchups:
  • Philadelphia Eagles at New York Jets (Week 6)
  • Dallas Cowboys at Philadelphia Eagles (Week 9)
  • New York Giants at Dallas Cowboys (Week 10)
  • San Francisco 49ers at Philadelphia Eagles (Week 13) - NFC Championship re-match
  • Dallas Cowboys at Buffalo Bills (Week 15)
  • Dallas Cowboys at Miami Dolphins (Week 16)

NFL on FOX 2023 Regular Season Highlights:
  • FOX's well-established tradition of broadcasting from a military base installation on Veterans Day weekend continues this year as Giants battle the Cowboys on Sunday, November 12. The military base from which FOX NFL Kickoff and FOX NFL Sunday will originate from is set for announcement later on.
  • The traditional Thanksgiving Day game comes back with the stuffing and everything else on Thursday, November 23 at 12:30 PM (ET) as Jordan Love and the Green Bay Packers takes on Jared Goff and the Detroit Lions.
  • FOX televises a Christmas Day game for the fourth straight season in 2023. The football loving fans across America will unwrap a traditional NFC East rivalry game as Saquon Barkley and the Giants visit Jalen Hurts and the Eagles on Monday, December 25 at 4:30 PM (ET).

Kevin Burkhardt (play-by-play), Greg Olsen (analyst), Erin Andrews (reporter) & Tom Rinaldi (reporter) return for their second season (and probably last) together as FOX's lead broadcast team.

Starting in Week 3 (Sunday, September 24), I will be publishing weekly articles on this blog regarding the broadcast schedule and the market listings for the "NFL on FOX". So be sure to check those out! Links to these specific articles will be posted here.

  10. Will FOX have 1 or 2 divisional round games? If it's 1, will CBS have 2?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. @Mark T. For this season, FOX will only have 1 divisional round game. And CBS will have only 1 divisional round game this season too. Beginning with this year (2023), as part of the new NFL television contract, ESPN/ABC will now air a divisional round game this season.

From now on, FOX (1), CBS (1), NBC/Peacock (1), and ESPN/ABC (1) will each air one game during the Divisional round of the playoffs.

      Delete
    2. Interesting. ABC's also airing the Super Bowl in a few years.

      Delete
    3. @Mark T. Yes, they are. So that means ESPN/ABC would be airing THREE playoff games in Super Bowl years. Wild Card, Divisional, and Super Bowl.

  14. Who will be filling in for the announcers who are calling playoff games? (Like Joe Davis, maybe Adam Amin)

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. @Mark T. Well Mark, I think that Adam Amin will again serve as Joe Davis' fill-in during the MLB playoffs. Also, consider this, Amin might need to be replaced during Week 6 (Oct. 15, FOX NFL Doubleheader), since Amin is probably calling the #2 Divisional Series in the MLB that Joe (Davis) is not doing. So likely Amin is in for Davis again this year, and someone like Brandon Gaudin in for Amin during that one October week, and then likely Chris Myers or someone else filling in for Amin for the several weeks after that.

  16. I'm wondering why for week 3, FOX has their #1 and #2 teams calling the doubleheader games at the same time. I've never seen that before.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. @Mark T. Yeah, Mark, that's weird. Normally, in a doubleheader situation, the #1 team calls the lead "late" game and the #2 team calls the lead "early" game. Maybe the 1 p.m. slate that day is kinda yucky, and the Cowboys (so-called America's Team, although NOT TO ME in part because I am an Eagles fan and vehemently hate the Cowboys) draw ratings, I guess. That's the only reason I can see why FOX decided to send the top crews both to late games in Week 3.

    2. Yeah, I agree. (Also an Eagles fan BTW) Neither game in the late window seems appealing to me.

  18. @Mark T. Rob Gronkowski will be appearing on FOX NFL Sunday tomorrow for Week 1. I think you will see Rob fill-in for Jimmy Johnson during singleheader weeks because Johnson has done the pregame show from his home in Florida in recent seasons due to his age (and due to the pandemic as well).

But, Rob Gronkowski will make multiple appearances throughout the year, probably during halftime and "The OT" postgame show (perhaps) for doubleheader games.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Okay. That makes a lot of sense. Would Johnson film from his house during halftime/postgame coverage?

    ReplyDelete
  20. @Mark T. Last season, Johnson did indeed make appearances from Florida during the pregame show only (on singleheader weeks). Johnson did not appear in the studio for the halftime/postgame shows during singleheader weeks. I think Jimmy wants to limit his travel due to his age, and having Rob Gronkowski to help spell him sometimes will help with that.

    1. Why a late game for Burkhardt and company?

      Delete
    2. @Mark T. Mark, in addition to his duties as the lead play-by-play announcer for the NFL on FOX, Burkhardt is also the lead host of FOX's MLB studio coverage.

This weekend, FOX Sports plans to begin its coverage of the American League Division Series. FOX's studios are located in Los Angeles, and FOX plans to have their MLB studio folks in Los Angeles for the Division Series. They will be on-site at the games for the League Championship Series and the World Series. Burkhardt is probably gonna handle Saturday MLB studio, followed by Sunday's Eagles-Rams game.

Probably, FOX needed Burkhardt to be on the west coast already due to studio commitments, rather than assigning him (and the lead crew for that matter) an East Coast 1 p.m. (ET) regional game. That's why.

      Delete
    2. @Mark T. I know right. Why the heck they are assigning Burkhardt/Olsen to a 1 p.m. ET game this week? I understand the Eagles/Jets game doesn't have the national appeal that it did before w/the Aaron Rodgers injury. But could YOU send them to the Lions/Buccaneers game at 4 p.m. ET, if you had to make a switch?! FOX chose not to do that.

So now, Kugler/Sanchez, a mid-tier crew (!!), is a getting a national audience with the Eagles/Jets being the main broadcast, instead of Lions/Buccaneers (going to around 30% of the country, I posted the weekly FOX listings btw).

  36. Where did you find out the announcers for Steelers-Rams?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. @Mark T. Mark, Adam Amin (pxp) posted a calendar of upcoming broadcasts on his Instagram. This featured NFL on FOX/Chicago Bulls broadcasts. On it, I noticed that he had Lions/Buccaneers for this Sunday (which turned out to be correct) and Steelers/Rams for the 22nd {next Sunday}. Also, I made the note that Amin filled in for Joe Davis for several weeks last season while Davis was calling the baseball postseason.

Since Amin is working with Johnson & Oliver for this Sunday, I basically assume that Amin/Johnston//Oliver will be working together for the next few weeks until Joe's baseball duties are complete.

That's how I got that announcing assignment, putting some pieces together. (Based off prior knowledge.)

All 3 times, Burkhardt was on site for the NLCS/World Series, then flew out the next day to call football.

  46. If the World Series ends before Saturday, will Davis be able to call Rams-Packers?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. @Mark T. Well, perhaps, FOX could make a late change on this! You actually have a point, Mark. The Rangers are up 3 games to 1 on the Diamondbacks, so that series could END tomorrow.

Meaning that Davis could have up to three days (Thursday/Friday/Saturday) to prepare for the Rams/Packers game, this includes meetings with coaches/players, notes, and basic prep. They could easily put Davis back on the NFL game with the Rams at the Packers game, and place Amin on Vikings vs. Falcons (with his regular broadcast partners, Mark Schlereth & Kristina Pink, and have Chris Myers take this weekend off).

However, I feel like Davis is probably not going to work the Rams/Packers game, because that would be a tight turnaround from calling three/four weeks of postseason baseball to now returning to NFL pxp duties.

      We'll see tho.

    1. @Mark T. Mark, that FOX schedule for next week looks absoutely dreadful. No matchup seems particuarly appealing to a casual (or team specific) fan, but FOX must make this poor schedule work somehow.

    2. Absolutely correct. Now it makes sense why they didn't flex the Vikings-Broncos game.

  53. Where did you find the announcers for Cowboys-Panthers? I couldn't find it.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. @Mark T. Mark, Kevin said during last week's Giants/Cowboys game that his crew will be doing the Cowboys/Panthers game this week. Third straight week of FOX's A crew calling a Cowboys game (at PHI in Week 9, vs. NYG in Week 10, and now at CAR in Week 11). However, next week, Burkhardt & Olsen won't be doing a Cowboys game though, since CBS has the Commanders/Cowboys Thanksgiving game (and Nantz and Romo will be working that), so Burkhardt/Olsen will be calling the Packers/Lions game next Thursday and will have the following Sunday off since FOX does not have the doubleheader {CBS does} (which would be pretty nice considering their heavy workload).

    1. @Mark T. I think so. The Big Ten Championship Game is on Saturday night at 8 p.m. ET, and the game in Philadelphia is not until 4:25 p.m. ET on Sunday afternoon, so Rinaldi can make this work (working both games); Thank god that NFL game is at 4:25 p.m. ET (if SF/PHI was at 1 PM ET, which obviously isn't happening, using this is a hypothetical; Rinaldi would not have enough time for a late-night/early-morning flight from Indianapolis to Philadelphia).

    ReplyDelete

    1. @Mark T. Probably so, Mark. Three games will be airing on ESPN/ABC or NBC during that final weekend, meaning that 13 games will be split up between CBS and FOX. FOX getting seven games and CBS getting six games during the final week is very probable. I like how you are thinking. I notice that FOX's #7 crew has been used only once this season (Faust/Quinn, Week 4, MIN/CAR) while CBS' #7 crew (Lewis/McCourty/Tucker) has been used twice (Week 1, Titans/Saints & Week 8, Ravens/Cardinals).

What's weird is ever since last year it feels like FOX (and NFLN last year) have given Kugler's crew higher ranked games than Albert's even though Albert is technically the number 4 announcer while Kugler should be number 5.

    1. @Mark T. Mark, I think Greg Olsen is unfortunately going to be demoted to FOX's #2 crew, and work alongside Joe Davis. Which is a shame because I like Greg Olsen a lot. This is the most likely scenario, unless Olsen lands with another network (like CBS, which I feel Greg could slide in as the #1 analyst, because Tony Romo is really bad right now and him and Nantz are so dreadful as a pairing).
