Welcome to Labor Day Weekend, everybody! I hope you enjoy the final weekend of the summer season (unofficially). Anyway, Fox Sports’ busy week of MLB coverage continues with “Baseball Night in America” on Saturday, September 5 at 7:00 PM ET on Fox, immediately following the Boston College/Cincinnati college football game (3:30 PM ET). The playoff push resumes, with Fox regionally televising two games that have significant postseason ramifications.

Manny Machado and the San Diego Padres host Trent Grisham and the New York Yankees in a must-see interleague clash; plus, Cam Smith and the Houston Astros continue their push towards the playoffs while they oppose Nolan Arenado and the Arizona Diamondbacks. Yankees-Padres will air in most of the country, while Diamondbacks-Astros will be seen regionally. For additional information about Saturday’s games, please read the following paragraphs.

⮞ Yankees () vs. Padres () — Saturday, 7:00 PM ET/4:00 PM PT on Fox, Fox One:

In the commentary booth, play-by-play announcer Don Orsillo and analyst Eric Karros provide commentary for Yankees-Padres, with Ken Rosenthal reporting from the field.

Obviously, for you older baseball fans, this is a rematch of the 1998 World Series (a series in which the Yankees swept the Padres in four games). Overall, the Yankees are 17-10 vs. the Padres in regular season play, including four consecutive series victories in 2019, 2023, 2024, and 2025.

Believe it or not, these two franchises are linked together by just more than the Juan Soto deal. In fact, the series is a must-win for both teams involved. San Diego is tied with Arizona for the last Wild Card spot in the National League. The Yankees are five games behind the Rays for the top spot in the AL East. With three weeks left in the regular season, this series result will definitely matter.

The Yankees’ lineup has been stagnant at times for a little while, thanks in large part to Aaron Judge being sidelined for the entire summer (stress fracture on a rib). However, trade deadline pickup Luis Garcia Jr. has given his ball club a major lift in recent weeks, hitting .292 with five runs scored, seven hits, and a home run over his seven contests.

⮞ Diamondbacks () vs. Astros () — Saturday, 7:00 PM ET/6:00 PM CT on Fox, Fox One:
Geraldo Perdomo leads the Arizona Diamondbacks against Yordan Alvarez and the Houston Astros in a pivotal September series for both sides on Saturday, September 5 at 7:00 PM ET/6:00 PM CT on Fox and Fox One.

Wayne Randazzo (play-by-play) teams up with Hall of Famer John Smoltz (analyst) to call Diamondbacks-Astros from Daikin Park in Houston, Texas.

The Astros have OWNED the Diamondbacks in interleague play over the past few seasons. In fact, since the start of the 2023 season, Houston is 8-1 in nine head-to-head meetings with Arizona. The Diamondbacks haven’t won a series against the Astros since 2012! Yup. So long ago that Houston was still a National League club (it would move to the American League the following year).

As the regular season winds down, both the Astros and Diamondbacks enter this series in search of a crucial series victory that could help their postseason quest. Houston seeks their eighth AL West title since the 2017 season, as they compete with the Texas Rangers for the division crown. The Diamondbacks are in a dogfight with the Padres for the final Wild Card spot, so Arizona could use a weekend series victory RIGHT NOW! 

Veteran slugger Yordan Alvarez should be someone to focus on while you guys catch Diamondbacks-Astros this weekend. The 29-year-old has been with the Astros since 2019, and he has established himself as one of the best hitters in baseball during this period. In fact, Alvarez has a lifetime .300 batting average. Alvarez looks to inch closer to the 40 home run mark (Alvarez has 37 right now, tied for third in the bigs).

Hi, everyone! Welcome to September! Fox Sports turns the temperature 🌡 up this week, as the network plans to broadcast two editions of “Baseball Night in America” as the October pennant chase goes into maximum overdrive. On Thursday, September 3, Fox will air a special Thursday night edition of “Baseball Night in America,” featuring regional coverage of two games that will impact the playoff picture, with teams battling for seeding, division championships, and that sort of stuff. The game options are Brewers vs. Cubs and Red Sox vs. Orioles, with coverage starting at 7:00 PM ET on Fox and Fox One. Which game will you receive on Thursday, and who’s announcing the action? Read to find out the answer.

⮞ Brewers vs. Cubs — Thursday, 7:00 PM ET/6:00 PM CT on Fox, Fox One:
In a highly anticipated series, Andrew Vaughn and the Milwaukee Brewers oppose Nico Hoerner and the Chicago Cubs on Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM ET/6:00 PM CT on Fox and Fox One.

🎙 Fox Sports’ Adam Amin (play-by-play), Hall of Famer John Smoltz (analyst) & Emmy Award winner Ken Rosenthal (field reporter) will call Brewers-Cubs from Wrigley Field in Chicago, Illinois.

These two teams will be quite familiar with each other over the next few weeks, as they will meet seven times in a short span. The Brewers lead the season series 4-3, after the Cubs’ 17-3 win over Milwaukee on Monday night. 

Despite the Cubs being seven games out in the NL Central, Chicago could possibly make the division race competitive again if they handle their business. If the Cubs drop this series, they can basically kiss their hopes of a potential NL Central title goodbye. However, a Chicago series victory allows them to maintain pressure on Milwaukee with roughly three weeks remaining in the regular season.

There are some exciting pitching matchups in this series, including Kyle Harrison vs. Clay Holmes in the series opener on Monday night. However, we have to talk about the NL MVP candidate himself, Pete Crow-Armstrong. During a weekend set vs. the Reds, PCA went 8-for-14 and smashed five home runs (including three in a single game), bringing his August total to 14.

⮞ Red Sox vs. Orioles — Thursday, 7:00 PM ET on Fox, Fox One:
We drop in on an American League East showdown as Trevor Story and the Boston Red Sox come marauding into Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore to play Samuel Basallo and the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM ET on Fox and Fox One.

🎙 Fox Sports’ Kenny Albert (play-by-play) teams up with World Series champion AJ Pierzynski (analyst) to provide commentary for Red Sox-Orioles from Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland.

Welp, this Red Sox-Orioles series kinda means something in early September. Remember when both of these teams were considered complete afterthoughts? Now, both teams are involved in the playoff picture. The Red Sox lead the season series, 5-4, entering this weekend’s four-game set down in Baltimore.

The Red Sox have stunned the baseball world with an improbable in-season turnaround. From a dismal 32-46 record on June 24 to 75-63 on September 1, Boston has somehow found a way to stay relevant and have a realistic chance of playing some October baseball. For most of the year, Baltimore was below .500. With a 2-1 win over the Rockies on Monday in Denver, the Orioles got back to .500 for the first time since the end of April. Amazingly, the Orioles are on the fringe of a Wild Card spot, trailing the Guardians by one game entering the final month of September.

Red Sox CF Ceddanne Rafaela is making his hits count this season, as the 25-year-old center fielder has 32 doubles and 3 triples on the season so far.
