  • Brock Purdy, Deebo Samuel Sr., Jordan Mason and the defending NFC champion San Francisco 49ers (2-2) try to build off the much-needed dub over the Patriots last week when their division rival, the Arizona Cardinals (1-3) led by Kyler Murray and company, come into Levi's Stadium for a Week 5 visit on Sunday, October 6 at 4:05 PM (ET) on FOX.

As you may know, the month of 🍂 October is extremely busy for our friends over at FOX Sports. In addition to carrying NFL games during this month, they are also airing college football on a regular basis in addition to live coverage of the MLB postseason. This Sunday, October 6, FOX has their attention pointed towards the gridiron as the network presents regional coverage for the second straight weekend. During Week #5, FOX has five games scheduled: Browns at Commanders, Dolphins at Patriots, Panthers at Bears, Cardinals at 49ers and Raiders at Broncos. Each one of these matchups will be dissected in greater detail along with further details about Sunday's NFL on FOX coverage. Stay tuned!

Sunday's Week 5 NFL on FOX regional coverage is preceded by two live hours of pregame coverage, starting at 11:00 AM (ET) with "FOX NFL Kickoff". Charissa Thompson anchors the program alongside Hall of Famer and Heisman Trophy winner Charles Woodson, three-time Super Bowl champion Julian Edelman, four-time Pro Bowler Michael Vick and insider Peter Schrager. In addition to Thompson, Edelman, Woodson, Vick & Schrager, Colin Cowherd and Cooper Manning will contribute segments during the show.

Then, one hour later, the pregame coverage continues with "FOX NFL Sunday" at 12:00 PM (ET) featuring co-hosts Curt Menefee and Hall of Famer Terry Bradshaw. Menefee and Bradshaw will be joined on-set by Hall of Famers Michael Strahan & Howie Long, plus four-time Super Bowl champion Rob Gronkowski. Longtime FOX Sports stalwart Jay Glazer also appears on the program as the insider, furnishing viewers with immeasurable and pertinent information, injury news and more leading up to Sunday's early 1:00 PM (ET) kickoffs.

FOX shifts coverage from the studio to the field, beginning with the early 1:00 PM (ET) kickoffs for markets eligible to receive them. At 1:00 PM (ET) on FOX, the network plans to regionalize three games for the early Sunday timeslot - Browns vs. Commanders, Panthers vs. Bears and Dolphins vs. Patriots. So excited to be able to provide you guys with a little insight into all three of these games.

Deshaun Watson, Amari Cooper and the Cleveland Browns (1-3) continue their three-road game trip against rookie sensation Jayden Daniels and the Washington Commanders (3-1) on Sunday, October 6 at 1:00 PM (ET) on FOX. The Browns have won the last two matchups between the sides, including the most recent one in 2022 (24-10 Browns win over the Commanders). The Commanders are looking for their 4-1 start since the 2008 season. Commanders QB Jayden Daniels leads the league in completion percentage at 82.1%. The Browns attempt to rebound following last week's 20-16 to the Raiders. 🎙 Jason Benetti (play-by-play), three-time Pro Bowl tight end Greg Olsen (analyst) and Pam Oliver (reporter) handle Sunday's Browns-Commanders game for FOX.

Jaylen Waddle and the Miami Dolphins (1-3) strive to snap their three-game losing streak against Deatrich Wise Jr. and the New England Patriots (1-3) on Sunday, October 6 at 1:00 PM (ET) on FOX. Dolphins WR Jaylen Waddle has the most receiving yards by a Dolphins player in his first 50 career games (Waddle with 3,561 receiving yards). Patriots DL Deatrich Wise Jr. has recorded a sack in each of the Patriots' last two games (Week 3 vs. the Jets and Week 4 vs. the 49ers). 🎙 On the call for Sunday's Dolphins-Patriots game on FOX will be Chris Myers (play-by-play), former NFL quarterback Mark Sanchez (analyst) & Kristina Pink (reporter).

Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears (2-2) look to jump over the .500 mark when they host Diontae Johnson and the Carolina Panthers (1-3) on Sunday, October 6 at 1:00 PM (ET) on FOX. The Bears are trying to carry their strong running game from last week's win over the Rams (a 24-18 win) to this game right here against the Panthers. Bears RB D'Andre Swift rushed for 93 yards and one touchdown on 16 attempts in Week 4. The frustrated Panthers seek a momentum shifting victory to try to salvage this already bad season. 🎙 Kenny Albert handles play-by-play commentary with analyst and Super Bowl champion Jonathan Vilma. Megan Olivi contributes from the sidelines.

For those of you scheduled to get a late game only, coverage for these games begins at 4:00 PM (ET) on FOX with a 4:05 PM (ET) kickoff time. Two divisional battles are pegged for FOX's late Week 5 schedule - Cardinals at 49ers and Raiders at Broncos. Let's take a deep dive into these two Sunday contests.

Following a rare three-game homestand, Kyler Murray and the Arizona Cardinals (1-3) are back on the road facing a NFC West divisional foe this week in Brock Purdy and the San Francisco 49ers (2-2). The game is scheduled for Sunday, October 6, with a 4:05 PM (ET) kickoff on FOX. The Cardinals look to grab their second division win already after a Week 2 win over the Rams at State Farm Stadium. The 49ers look to beat Arizona for the fifth straight time in the series and improve to 21-14 at home against the Cardinals. 49ers RB Jordan Mason was a major reason why the 49ers bested the Patriots last week, 30-13, rushing 24 times for 123 yards and scoring a touchdown in the process. In four games, Cardinals rookie WR Marvin Harrison Jr. has 15 receptions for 243 yards and four touchdowns. 🎙 The lead NFL on FOX crew has Sunday's Cardinals-49ers call - Kevin Burkhardt (play-by-play), seven-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady (analyst), Erin Andrews (reporter) & Tom Rinaldi (reporter).

Ameer Abdullah and the Las Vegas Raiders (2-2) head to the Mile High City for a divisional matchup with Courtland Sutton and the Denver Broncos (2-2) on Sunday, October 6 at 4:05 PM (ET) on FOX. 🎙 Commentary for Sunday's Raiders-Broncos game on FOX will be given by Kevin Kugler (play-by-play), three-time Super Bowl champion Daryl Johnston (analyst) & Laura Okmin (reporter).

Monday, September 30, 2024

  • The NFL on CBS starts the month of October 🍂 with a second straight doubleheader here in Week 5 (Sunday, October 6), highlighted by the NFC clash as Jayden Reed, Jordan Love and the Green Bay Packers (2-2) visit Matthew Stafford, Kyren Williams and the Los Angeles Rams (1-3) at 4:25 PM ET.
  • CBS holds the rights to five NFL games in Week #5, including: Ravens at Bengals, Colts at Jaguars, Bills at Texans, Packers at Rams & Giants at Seahawks.
  • "The NFL Today" crew provides pregame coverage for the Week #5 CBS doubleheader, starting at 12:00 PM (ET). The studio team features host James Brown, analyst Nate Burleson, analyst Matt Ryan, analyst Bill Cowher and insider Jonathan Jones.
  • Two breathtaking and dynamic quarterbacks link 🖇 up in Houston as Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills take on CJ Stroud and the Houston Texans on Sunday, October 6 at 1:00 PM (ET) on CBS.
  • 2019 & NFL MVP Lamar Jackson, 2015 Heisman Trophy winner Derrick Henry and the Baltimore Ravens (2-2) search for their third straight dub as they visit Joe Burrow and the struggling Cincinnati Bengals (1-3) on Sunday, October 6 at 1:00 PM (ET) on CBS.

Don't look 👀 now, but we are basically a quarter of the way through this 2024 NFL season. And the terrific folks at CBS Sports plan to offer you another Sunday filled with 🏈 football goodness. This weekend (Sunday, October 6), CBS is set to televise a doubleheader featuring contests from the NFL's Week 5 calendar 📆. Five games are on the docket this week - including Bills vs. Texans, Ravens vs. Bengals, Colts vs. Jaguars, Packers vs. Rams & Giants vs. Seahawks. Additional details about this week's CBS coverage will be discussed over the next few paragraphs, so I invite you to stick around and read the article through the conclusion.

The Week 5 NFL on CBS doubleheader begins at 12:00 PM (ET) with "The NFL Today" pregame show. James Brown anchors the one-hour program live from New York, with former NFL wide receiver Nate Burleson, Hall of Famer coach Bill Cowher & four-time Pro Bowler Matt Ryan. Insider Jonathan Jones joins the studio team during the program to provide the latest news & updates from across the league.

The CBS doubleheader begins at 1:00 PM (ET) with the "early" slate of games. In this window, CBS will regionally televise one of three games in your local market - Bills at Texans (Primary game), Ravens at Bengals or Colts at Jaguars. I will briefly touch on these of three early contests.

Josh Allen and the AFC East leading Buffalo Bills (3-1) visit CJ Stroud and the AFC South leading Houston Texans (3-1) on Sunday, October 6 at 1:00 PM (ET) on CBS. This is the matchup that most of the country will be enjoying in the early window on CBS. As a matter of fact, this is the first-ever meeting between these two quarterbacks. The Texans came from behind to best the Jaguars last week at home, while the Bills lick their wounds following a SNF loss to the Ravens last week. CJ Stroud is the first quarterback in league history to throw for 5,000 yards and fewer than 10 interceptions prior to his 23rd birthday. 🎙 Bills-Texans will be nationally broadcast on CBS, and will feature the announcing team of Ian Eagle (play-by-play), Charles Davis (analyst) and Evan Washburn (reporter).

A Week 5 AFC North division battle takes place at Paycor Stadium in Cincinnati as Lamar Jackson, Derrick Henry and the suddenly surging Baltimore Ravens (2-2) take on Joe Burrow and the shockingly floundering Cincinnati Bengals (1-3). Game coverage of Ravens-Bengals starts on Sunday, October 6 at 1:00 PM (ET) on CBS. For both teams, this is their first divisional matchup of the 2024 season. Following a disastrous 0-2 start, Ravens head coach John Harbaugh and his squad have rebounded nicely, winning two games recently over the Cowboys and Bills. Meanwhile, the Bengals are FINALLY entering an NFL weekend with a victory at hand, following the team's first dub of 2024 last week (a 34-24 victory at the Panthers). 🎙 Beloved and respected play-by-play announcer Kevin Harlan and two-time Pro Bowler Trent Green (analyst) call Ravens-Bengals from the booth, with reporter Melanie Collins manning the sidelines.

To wrap up the three-game Week 5 CBS early slate on Sunday, CBS will go to DUVVAL in Jacksonville, Florida as Christian Kirk and the struggling Jacksonville Jaguars (0-4) try once again to capture Win #1 against Michael Pittman Jr. and the visiting Indianapolis Colts (2-2) as two AFC South clubs clash in Week #5. Kickoff is set for 1:00 PM (ET) on Sunday, October 6 on CBS. Last week, Colts WR Michael Pittman Jr. caught six balls for 113 yards (a team high for the game) during the Colts' 27-24 win over the Steelers. The Colts seek their third straight win following a ugly 0-2 start while the Jaguars try to avoid a fifth consecutive loss to open the season. 🎙 Spero Dedes (play-by-play), former NFL kicker Jay Feely (analyst) & Aditi Kinkhabwala (reporter) take the call from EverBank Stadium.

When the early games are completed, the Week 5 CBS doubleheader moves forward at 4:25 PM (ET), with the national doubleheader window. The two games slated for the 4:25 PM (ET) slot on CBS this week include Packers at Rams & Giants at Seahawks. I will have more to say about these two games in just a moment here.

Jordan Love and the Green Bay Packers (2-2) make their first ever trip to SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California to line up against Tutu Atwell and the Los Angeles Rams (1-3) on Sunday, October 6 at 4:25 PM (ET) on CBS. To nobody's surprise, the majority of the country will be seeing this NFC battle as the "primary" late game. This is the 100th time that these two clubs have squared off, factoring in regular season and postseason contests (Packers lead 50-47-2). Rams RB Kyren Williams led the Rams rushing attack last week in the 24-18 loss to the Bears, carrying the ball 19 times for 94 rushing yards. In the wake of a 31-29 loss to the Vikings last week, the Packers started at 2-2 (.500) for the 2nd straight season. 🎙 CBS will televise the Packers-Rams game nationally, with Jim Nantz calling play-by-play, Tony Romo giving analysis and Tracy Wolfson on reporting duties.

Daniel Jones and the New York Giants (1-3) are on the West Coast this week, as they prepare for the battle against DK Metcalf and the Seattle Seahawks (3-1) on Sunday, October 6 at 4:25 PM (ET) on CBS. The Giants have had 10 days off, having last played on Thursday, September 26, losing 20-15 to the Cowboys. The Seahawks are facing a short week now following a heartbreaking MNF loss to the Lions last week, 42-29. Giants QB Daniel Jones has completed 63.2% of his passes through Week 4. Seahawks RB Kenneth Walker III has four rushing touchdowns this year, with three of them coming in the loss to the Lions on Monday night. 🎙 Andrew Catalon (play-by-play) provides commentary, with analysts Tiki Barber and Jason McCourty. AJ Ross rounds out the commentary crew as the sideline reporter.

Sunday, September 29, 2024

  • The 2024 MLB postseason begins on Tuesday, October 1 with the third annual Wild Card Series (fourth edition, if you count the 2020 season due to COVID-19) on the ESPN family of networks (ABC, ESPN, ESPN2).
  • Four Wild Card Series, with two in each league (American League and National League). Each series will be contested in a best-of-three format, with the higher seed hosting all three games during this mini-series.
  • The ESPN family of networks provide complete coverage of the entire Wild Card Series round (with one specific crew dedicated to covering each series - e.g.: Sean McDonough, Jessica Mendoza, Ben McDonald & Jeff Passan covering the Royals-Orioles series).
  • The Wild Card playoffs open up on Tuesday, October 1 when Jeremy Peña and the American League West champions, the Houston Astros (#3 seed), host Parker Meadows and the Detroit Tigers (#6 seed; making their first playoff appearance since 2014 in a unlikely, improbable, implausible scenario) for Game 1 of the American League Wild Card series at 2:30 PM (ET) on ABC. The winner of the Tigers-Astros series faces José Ramírez and the #2 seed Cleveland Guardians in the American League Division Series.
  • Coverage of the Wild Card series continues on Tuesday, October 1 at 4:00 PM (ET) on ESPN2 as Bobby Witt Jr. and the #5 seed Kansas City Royals (in the playoffs for the first time since they won the championship in 2015) take the field to play Cedric Mullins and the #4 seed Baltimore Orioles.

Hey there, and welcome to the start of the 2024 MLB Postseason! The long and protracted regular season is now behind us (sans the Monday Mets-Braves doubleheader), and it's time to start thinking about the month of October 🍂 and the eventual road to the World Series.

I am so excited to launch the first of many 2024 MLB Postseason articles over the next month or so! We will begin with this week's Wild Card Series series-by-series breakdown and daily television/commentator schedule. You can find the complete details below. Later this week, we will post information regarding the Division Series (which is scheduled to begin on Saturday, October 5).

The 2024 MLB Wild Card Series presented by T-Mobile 5G Home Internet begins on Tuesday, October 1, with a full plate of matchups across the ESPN family of networks.

First up, Kerry Carpenter and the #3 Wild Card (#6 seed) Detroit Tigers visit Jon Singleton and the AL West champion Houston Astros (#3 seed) in Game 1 of the American League Wild Card series at 2:30 PM (ET) on ABC. Following a remarkable second half of the season, the Tigers find themselves in the postseason for the first time since 2014. Meanwhile, the Astros are postseason regulars, as the club qualified for the postseason for the eighth straight season. The winner of this series faces the #2 seed Cleveland Guardians in the American League Division Series. 🎙 New York Yankees play-by-play commentator Michael Kay calls the play-by-play, with analyst and two-time Todd Frazier and fellow analyst and renowned reporter/writer Tim Kurkjian. Alden González rounds the broadcast team as the field reporter.

Coverage then shifts over to ESPN2 for Game 1 of the American League Wild Card series at 4:00 PM (ET). MJ Melendez and the #2 Wild Card Kansas City Royals (#5 seed) are to set battle Emmanuel Rivera and the #1 Wild Card Baltimore Orioles (#4 seed). The Royals are back in the postseason mix for the first time since 2015, while the Orioles return to the playoffs for the second straight season. The winner of this series takes on the #1 seed New York Yankees in the American League Division Series. 🎙 The broadcast team of Sean McDonough (play-by-play), Jessica Mendoza (analyst), Ben McDonald (analyst) and Jeff Passan (reporter) will provide commentary.

Following the first two games on ABC and ESPN2, ESPN will carry a doubleheader to finish off Tuesday's Wild Card Series playoff coverage. At 5:30 PM (ET), Francisco Lindor and the #3 Wild Card New York Mets (#6 seed) take on Jackson Chourio and the NL Central champion Milwaukee Brewers (#3 seed) in Game 1 of the National League Wild Card series. The Mets are back in the playoffs for the first time since 2022. As for the Brewers, they are making their second straight appearance in the postseason. The winner gets the #2 seed Philadelphia Phillies in the National League Division Series while the loser goes home. Jon "Boog" Sciambi and Doug Glanville call the game from the booth, with Jesse Rogers reporting from the field.

The first day of the Wild Card Series comes to a end at 8:30 PM (ET) on ESPN, when Ozzie Albies and the Atlanta Braves (#5 seed) clash with Manny Machado and the San Diego Padres (#4 seed) in Game 1 of this best-of-three National League Wild Card Series. San Diego is in the National League playoffs for the first time since 2022. The Braves, on the other hand, are now in the postseason for the seventh straight season. The winner gets the #1 seed Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Division Series, and the loser is eliminated. The "Sunday Night Baseball" team of Karl Ravech (play-by-play), five-time World Series champion, Eduardo Pérez (analyst), Buster Olney (reporter) will call the Braves-Padres Wild Card game for ESPN.

Following Tuesday's Wild Card Series coverage, Wild Card Series coverage continues with Game 2's on Wednesday, October 2 and if necessary, Game 3's on Thursday, October 3. Again, the ESPN family of platforms will televise every Wild Card Series game.
