Blog Update - Wednesday, April 10, 2024 - The Official Addition of the WNBA

Hi, everyone! Happy Wednesday! Hopefully, your week is off to a great start. I just wanted to write up this blog update today to inform you about a new and exciting addition to my sports website. Now, if you pay attention to the blog description near the top of my blog, I mentioned that I would be adding the WNBA to the list of sports that I cover, starting in 2024.

Now, the time has come to embrace being uncomfortable and tackle some new projects. So beginning with this season, 2024, I will be covering women's sports for the first time in the nearly decade long history of this website. I am so excited to share this news with everyone out there!

I will be covering the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) for the first time ever. As part of this new commitment, WNBA games that will be airing on ABC and ESPN will be tracked, with any announcing assignments and game updates. Plus, any and all postseason broadcasts will be documented as well. If you guys want any other networks (besides ABC and ESPN) to be covered here in this space, please let me know and I will see if I have the time to devote to these networks as well.

The WNBA is a league that features some exciting talent, like 2023 Kia WNBA Rookie of the Year and rising star in the broadcasting industry, Aliyah Boston and two-time Kia WNBA Most Valuable Player Candace Parker, who of course, covers the NBA for TNT during the WNBA offseason.

Ladies, you will be getting your shine 🌟 on TamirMoore.com now and moving forward! Women's basketball is exploding in popularity thanks to electrifying basketball players like JuJu WatkinsCaitlin Clark and Angel Reese. I hope to share just a small piece of the emerging women's basketball scene with you on TamirMoore.com.

Again, as always, with the men's sports and now with the WNBA, please comment on my articles regarding any updates on the broadcasts and/or your own comments (as long as they follow my blog's rules, which can be found at the bottom of each of the articles).

Thanks, again! And let's have some fun in the sun hooping 🏀 this summer, ladies!

Look out for future blog updates here on TamirMoore.com. In the meanwhile, enjoy the rest of your day and thank you for reading.

Sincerely,
Tamir Moore - owner, operator & administrator of TamirMoore.com

- 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs first round begins a doubleheader on TBS and truTV on Saturday, April 20 -- Islanders vs. Hurricanes, Game 1 at 5:00 PM ET followed by Maple Leafs vs. Bruins, Game 1 at 8:00 PM ET.

- ESPN/ABC to present 14 first round matchups over four days, starting on Sunday, April 21 at 12:30 PM ET.

- ESPN, ESPN2, TNT and TBS team up to broadcast first round action

With the NHL's 2023-24 regular season in the books, now is the time to look ahead to the first round of the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

The 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs will kick off with a doubleheader of Game 1 action on TBS (and simulcasted on truTV) on Saturday, April 20

In the first game, the New York Islanders will visit the Carolina Hurricanes to open up the first round at 5:00 PM ET on TBS and truTV. Former Hurricanes commentator John Forslund will call the action with analysis provided by Jennifer Botterill and Darren Pang.

Then, in primetime on Saturday night, the Toronto Maple Leafs battle the Boston Bruins in Game 1 of their series at 8:00 PM ET on TBS and truTV. TNT's lead commentary team of Kenny Albert, Eddie Olczyk and Brian Boucher will provide commentary.

The first round of the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs then continues on Sunday, April 21 with four games on the ESPN family of networks.

Sunday's playoff action begins at 12:30 PM ET on ESPN with Game 1 of a first-round series between Tampa Bay Lightning and this year's Atlantic Division winner Florida Panthers. The Panthers' Sam Reinhart and Matthew Tkachuk look to match the offensive explosion of the Lightning and Art Ross Trophy winner Nikita Kucherov. Bob Wischusen provides play-by-play commentary, with analyst Ryan Callahan and reporter Leah Hextall.

At 3:00 PM ET on Sunday afternoon on ESPN, the Washington Capitals and Alexander Ovechkin take on the team with the best record in the NHL this season - the President's Trophy winner New York Rangers for Game 1 of the best-of-seven series between the teams at Madison Square Garden. The Rangers boast one of the best offenses in hockey this year - led by goals and assists leader Artemi Panarin. ESPN's lead commentary crew of Sean McDonough, Ray Ferraro and Emily Kaplan will be on the call.

Sunday's postseason coverage then shifts to ESPN2 at 7:00 PM ET as the Colorado Avalanche and its points, goals, and assists leader Nathan MacKinnon hits the ice to play the Winnipeg Jets and their outstanding goalie Connor Hellebuyck - this season's William M. Jennings Trophy winner for Game 1 of the Western Conference First Round. Play-by-play commentator John Buccigross & analyst Cassie Campbell-Pascall will describe the action from Winnipeg.

The final game of Sunday's quadrupleheader of postseason action goes back to the main ESPN channel at 10:00 PM ET (following the Rangers-Braves game on Sunday Night Baseball), the Nashville Predators and the Pacific Division champion Vancouver Canucks square off for Game 1 of the Western Conference opening round - after both teams missed the playoffs a season ago. The commentating duo of Mike Monaco & AJ Mleczko handle the broadcasting for this game.

The final two Game 1's of the opening round of the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs then will take place on Monday, April 22 (the other two Monday games are Game 2 of the Maple Leafs/Bruins series and Game 2 of the Islanders/Hurricanes series).

The defending Stanley Cup champion Vegas Golden Knights and reigning Conn Smythe winner Jonathan Marchessault invade Dallas to battle this year's best team in the West, the Dallas Stars, and its points and assists top dawg Jason Robertson in Game 1 of the best-of-seven First Round series at 9:30 PM ET on ESPN. Bob Wischusen, Ryan Callahan & Leah Hextall will provide commentary from Dallas.

In a rematch of last season's opening round series, the Edmonton Oilers and Connor McDavid - who tied for a league-leading 100 assists this regular season - host Anze Kopitar and the Los Angeles Kings at 10:00 PM ET on ESPN2. Mike Monaco handles the play-by-play while analyst AJ Mleczko provides analysis of the action from her perspective.

The 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs first round will then continue with daily games through Monday, April 29. ESPN, ESPN2, TNT and TBS will combine to air the first round games.

If necessary, information will be provided regarding any potential Game 5's, Game 6's or even a Game 7 or two.

Then, on Saturday, April 20, the best time of the basketball 🏀 season officially begins with the advent of the 2024 NBA Playoffs presented by Google Pixel. First up, the Conference Quarterfinals, or the first round as many often refer to this round. This weekend, across Saturday (April 20) and Sunday (April 21) eight First Round Game 1's will be contested across the networks of ABC, ESPN and TNT.

The ESPN family of the networks will televise six of the eight games this weekend (four on Saturday and two on Sunday), while TNT gets a Sunday doubleheader to finish the weekend out.

Saturday's Conference Quarterfinal action begins in Cleveland at 1:00 PM ET on ESPN as Paolo Banchero and the Orlando Magic (#5 seed) take on Donovan Mitchell and the Cleveland Cavaliers (#4 seed) in the opening match of the best-of-seven series. 🎙 Beth Mowins handles play-by-play duties alongside analyst Stephanie White and reporter Angel Gray. Then, at 3:30 PM ET on ESPN, Kevin Durant and the Phoenix Suns (#6 seed) ✈ travel to Minneapolis to face Anthony Edwards and the Minnesota Timberwolves (#3 seed) in Game 1 of their series. 🎙 Mark Jones will describe the activity on the court with Naismith Basketball Hall of Famer Hubie Brown and reporter Jorge Sedano.

Saturday's Conference Quarterfinal Game 1 coverage continues later that evening at 6:00 PM ET on ESPN, featuring the new NBA Finals presented by YouTube TV broadcast team working their first "official" postseason assignment. 🎙 Naismith Basketball Hall of Famers Mike Breen (play-by-play) and Doris Burke (analyst), analyst JJ Redick and reporter Lisa Salters set up at Madison Square Garden as Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers (#7 seed) clash with Jalen Brunson and the New York Knicks (#2 seed.).

The first day of playoff basketball concludes with a primetime telecast on ABC at 8:30 PM ET. LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers (#7 seed) play Nikola Jokić and the defending champion Denver Nuggets (#2 seed) to begin a Western Conference first-round series. 🎙 Dave Pasch (play-by-play) and analyst, two-time Executive of the Year (four-time champion overall) Bob Myers are on the call for the matchup, with sideline reporting handled by Katie George.

On Sunday, April 21, the first round of the Conference Quarterfinals marches on with a special ABC doubleheader (with games at 1:00 PM ET and 3:30 PM ET). The 1:00 PM ET game on ABC sees Jayson Tatum and the Boston Celtics (#1 seed) host either Bam Adebayo and the Miami Heat (#8 seed) for Game 1 of the first round. 🎙 Breen, Burke, Redick and Salters return to provide commentary for this game, their second game in less than 24 hours.

That game on ABC will be followed by the late afternoon tip-off in Southern California (3:30 PM ET) as Luka Dončić and the Dallas Mavericks (#5 seed) prepare to battle once again with Paul George and the Los Angeles Clippers (#4 seed). As you know, these teams are quite familiar with each other. These teams are meeting in the playoffs for the third time in the last five years, with the Clippers winning over Dallas in the 2020 bubble & in 2021. 🎙 Ryan Ruocco takes the microphone for the Game 1 play-by-play, joined by analyst and 2016 NBA Champion Richard Jefferson and reporter Cassidy Hubbarth.

Following the two Sunday afternoon games on ABC, TNT is set to make their postseason debut with a Sunday night doubleheader to cap off a exciting first weekend of postseason basketball.

A Eastern Conference duel from Fiserv Forum begins TNT's Sunday playoff coverage at 7:00 PM ET as Tyrese Haliburton and the upstart Indiana Pacers (#6 seed) get ready to collide with Damian Lillard and the Milwaukee Bucks (#3 seed) in Game 1 of their series. Keep in mind that Indiana owned Milwaukee during the regular season, with the Pacers coming away victorious in four of the five meetings (including In-Season Tournament game). 🎤 Ian Eagle and Grant Hill will provide play-by-play and color commentary for this duel, with reporter Jared Greenberg keeping viewers updated from the sidelines.

To wrap up the first weekend of the NBA Playoffs, TNT is set to take viewers to Oklahoma City where Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Jalen Williams, Chet Holmgren and the Oklahoma City Thunder, the top seed in the West, try to protect home court in Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals against CJ McCollum and the New Orleans Pelicans (#8 seed) at 9:30 PM ET. 🎤 Play-by-play commentator Spero Dedes is joined by analyst Greg Anthony and reporter Stephanie Ready for broadcasting duties.

Following a eight-game slate of playoff basketball 🏀 this weekend, the First Round will continue through at least Monday, April 29, with games on ABC, ESPN, TNT and NBA TV. If needed, additional First Round games will be played between Tuesday, April 30 and Sunday, May 5.
