With the 2021-22 NBA season now over (with Golden State defeating Boston in the 2022 NBA Finals to win their 7th championship in team history), it is time to turn our focus towards the NBA 2K23 Summer League in Las Vegas, Nevada. This year's edition will take place from Thursday, July 7th through Sunday, July 17th at the Thomas & Mack Center (Thomas & Mack) and Cox Pavilion (Cox) in Las Vegas, Nevada on the campus of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV).
75 games are scheduled to take place this year, with games being available on ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU and NBA TV. The ESPN family of the networks and NBA TV will once again provide coverage of the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas this year.
The 17th edition of the NBA's marquee summer league will have each of the league's current 30 franchises playing five games during an 11 day period. Following four preliminary round games from July 7-July 15, the top teams will meet in the championship game at the Thomas & Mack Center on Sunday, July 17th at 3:00 PM (ET) / 12:00 PM (PT) on the ESPN cable network.
For the teams that do not qualify for the championship game, they will play a fifth game on either Saturday, July 16th or Sunday, July 17th.
The summer league is scheduled to open up on Thursday, July 7th with an exclusive doubleheader on ESPN. The doubleheader kicks off at 10:00 PM (ET) on ESPN as Paolo Banchero (#1 overall pick, Magic) and the Orlando Magic battle Jabari Smith, Jr. (#3 overall pick, Rockets) and the Houston Rockets. The doubleheader continues at 12:00 AM (ET) on Friday morning (which will be a 9:00 PM PT Thursday night start in Las Vegas) as Jaden Ivey (#5 overall pick, Pistons) and the Detroit Pistons match up with Shaedon Sharpe (#7 overall pick, Trail Blazers) and the Portland Trail Blazers.
On Saturday, July 9th, the top four draft picks can all take the court on the same day. At 4:00 PM (ET) on ESPN, Banchero and the Magic return to face Keegan Murray (#4 overall pick, Kings) and the Sacramento Kings. Later that night, at 8:00 PM (ET) on ESPN2, the No. 2 and No. 3 draft picks are slated to take the floor as Chet Holmgren (#2 overall pick, Thunder) and the Oklahoma City Thunder play Smith, Jr. and the Rockets. Saturday's summer league coverage ends at 10:00 PM (ET) on ESPN2 as Dyson Daniels (#8 overall pick, Pelicans) and the New Orleans Pelicans battle Sharpe and the Trail Blazers.
The top two draft picks from this year's draft, Paolo Banchero and Chet Holmgren, could square off on Monday, July 11th as ESPN televises the Magic vs. Thunder Summer League game at 9:00 PM (ET).
The Thomas & Mack Center will host the opening night of the Summer League. Following Thursday's games, Thomas & Mack Center and Cox Pavilion will share the responsibilities of hosting the games for the remainder of the summer league schedule.
