NBC's Sunday Night Football, the top show in primetime for 12 straight seasons, returns for the 18th consecutive season during the 2023 NFL season.
Sunday Night Football in 2023 is highlighted by Patrick Mahomes and the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs raising their championship banner before facing Jared Goff and the Detroit Lions in NFL Kickoff 2023; Mahomes and Aaron Rodgers (hopefully!) facing off for the first time (Chiefs vs. Jets) in Week 4; an NFC Divisional Playoff rematch as CeeDee Lamb and the Dallas Cowboys square off with Deebo Samuel and the San Francisco 49ers in Week 5; and concluding the pressure-cooker Week 18 regular season finale (recent terrific regular season finals: 2021 -- Chargers/Raiders, with Raiders winning in OT & 2022 -- Lions/Packers, as Detroit stunned the Packers in Aaron Rodgers' final game with the Packers). Then it is on to the postseason, where NBC Sports presents playoff coverage during the first two weekends.
For the first time ever, Peacock will exclusively televise a National Football League game as Stefon Diggs and the Buffalo Bills take on Justin Herbert and the Los Angeles Chargers in a primetime contest of two of last season's AFC playoff teams on Saturday, December 23 at 8:00 PM (ET).
The Peacock-exclusive Bills vs. Chargers game will follow a special Saturday afternoon edition of Sunday Night Football on NBC earlier that day, Saturday, December 23. That game has Tee Higgins and the defending AFC North champions Cincinnati Bengals battle Kenny Pickett and the Pittsburgh Steelers from Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh at 4:30 PM (ET).
This season's SNF schedule is loaded with the league's top signal callers, 10 matchups featuring last year's playoff entrants, and a SNF-high three appearances from the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs and Dallas Cowboys.
On NBC and Peacock, NBC Sports is scheduled to televise 20 regular-season games, including 18 Sunday Night Football games, NFL Kickoff 2023, and the annual Thanksgiving game at night (49ers vs. Seahawks). For the first time, Peacock will exclusively televise a regular-season affair. NBC Sports will also have four playoff games on NBC and Peacock, including three games on Wild Card weekend (Saturday, January 13 & Sunday, January 14) and a Divisional Playoff game the following weekend (Saturday, January 20 or Sunday, January 21). The preseason will begin on NBC and Peacock on Thursday, August 3, with coverage of the annual Hall of Fame Game as the Jets take on the Browns in this year's edition from Canton, Ohio. In all, NBC Sports has 26 NFL games on this docket this year.
The SNF announce team of Mike Tirico (play-by-play), Cris Collinsworth (analyst) & Melissa Stark (reporter) return for their second season together.
Once again, all Sunday Night Football games will kickoff at 8:20 p.m. (ET) this year, unless otherwise noted.

ReplyDeleteSo it's been confirmed that Al Michaels will not be a part of NBC's playoff coverage. So, who do you think will be the 3rd NBC team?
ReplyDelete@Mark T. In fact Mark, I was looking at this story today. There will be no 3rd NBC team. Just two. Mike Tirico & Cris Collinsworth will handle three of the four NBC playoff games, with Noah Eagle & Todd Blackledge getting the other one.
DeleteAnd sadly, I knew this would happen because Al Michaels' energy and enthusiasm has declined rapidly over the last few years while calling the Thursday night games for Amazon and at some point (no disrespect to Al), NBC had to move on and give the #2 job to somebody else.
Interested to see how they handle the 2 Wild Card games
DeleteHow will Mike Tirico and Cris Collinsworth be able to do both wildcard games? Would they be able to find a flight in time?
ReplyDelete@Mark T. Mark, you bring up a great point. Why in the hell is Tirico and Collinsworth doing two playoff games (Wild Card) on the same weekend? Doesn't make sense to me at all, especially considering the fact that they have to travel one site (for Saturday night game on Peacock) to the next one on short notice (for the traditional NBC SNF Wild Card weekend slot), and must do TWICE the preparation that they would otherwise not have to. I would assume NBC will select Wild Card games with limited travel so Tirico and Collinsworth can pull off this strange double duty on Wild Card Weekend. Can't wait to see which games Peacock and NBC pick for the Wild Card Weekend.
DeleteI'm also really interested to see what games they pick.
DeleteSo Tirico will be calling 2 games will 2 different crews, which further proves my point that he'll have a hard time finding a flight from Kansas City to Detroit.
ReplyDelete@Mark T. Mark, you are absolutely right. This is exactly why Al Michaels should been have retained, considering the fact that NBC/Peacock has THREE Wild Card games (meaning that you need THREE separate crews, from announcers to production, etc.). NBC kinda screwed themselves over by releasing Al Michaels, because this is the weekend where having Al Michaels present would make NBC's lives so much easier. NBC could have had Eagle/Blackledge on CLE/HOU, Michaels/Garrett on MIA/KC & Tirico/Collinsworth on LAR/DET, and Tirico wouldn't have to prepare/fly/call two games in two different cities on two different nights. If Michaels was indeed "fired", why did NBC not find a THIRD announcer in their stable for this playoff game?! Mike Tirico having to call two Wild Card games in the same weekend is kinda unfair, especially when NBC could have avoided this by just keeping Al on the announce roster.
DeleteExactly. I'd have liked to see Brendan Burke work one of these games, or better yet, Jac Collinsworth could've done LAR/DET with his dad.
