The 2022 Stanley Cup Final will officially begin tomorrow night, Wednesday, June 15, at 8 p.m. ET on the ABC broadcast network. This year's edition features the Eastern Conference champion, Tampa Bay Lightning, taking on the Western Conference champion, Colorado Avalanche.
The Avalanche will welcome the visiting Lightning to Denver for Wednesday's Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final. This game will be Colorado's first Stanley Cup Finals game in Denver since 2001. Colorado finished the 2021-22 regular season with 119 points, and had two four-game sweeps in the 2022 Stanley Cup Playoffs: the Nashville Predators in the first round & the Edmonton Oilers in the Western Conference Finals.
The Avalanche defeated the Lightning in both regular season meetings.
The Lightning enter this year's Stanley Cup Final with 11 consecutive playoff series wins and look to become the first NHL team since the New York Islanders in 1983 to win three straight Stanley Cups. Tampa Bay qualified for their fifth appearance in the Stanley Cup Final (2004, 2015, 2020, 2021, 2022), surpassing the Pittsburgh Penguins for the most appearances by a Eastern Conference team since the 2003-04 season. Tampa Bay looks to be the first team since Pittsburgh to win four Stanley Cup championships in a team's first five appearances in the championship round. Tampa Bay finished with 110 points during regular season play.
Play-by-play announcer Sean McDonough will be on the call for ABC's game coverage of the Lightning/Avalanche Stanley Cup Final. McDonough will be joined for the game coverage by analyst Ray Ferraro, plus reporter Emily Kaplan for the duration of the series. The game crew will be on-site at Ball Arena in Denver (for Avalanche home games) and Amalie Arena in Tampa (for Lightning home games).
Veteran sportscaster Steve Levy will serve as the host throughout the series, with analysts Mark Messier and Chris Chelios. The studio team will be on-site at Amalie Arena in Tampa (games that the Lightning host) and Ball Arena in Denver (games that the Avalanche host).
