  • 2022 World Series has the American League champion Houston Astros facing off with the National League Champion Philadelphia Phillies
  • Astros back in the World Series for the fourth time in the last six seasons
  • Phillies in the World Series for the first time since 2009
  • Bryce Harper set to star in his first-ever trip to the Fall Classic
The 2022 MLB Postseason has reached its conclusion, as we are now days away from the 2022 World Series presented by Capital One.

The 2022 World Series matches up the American League champion Houston Astros, who appear in their fourth World Series in the last six seasons, against the National League champion Philadelphia Phillies, who return to the Fall Classic for the first time since 2009.

The Phillies are 9-2 in 11 postseason games this season, while the Astros are a perfect 7-0 in postseason games. Houston comes off two straight sweeps in the playoffs == vs. the Mariners in the ALDS (3-0) and vs. the Yankees in the ALCS (4-0).

For the Phillies, slugger Bryce Harper is making his first-ever appearance in the World Series. Harper, who has been in the baseball spotlight for basically half of his life, is coming off the biggest game of his career when he hit the two-run home run in the bottom of 8th inning in Game 5 of the NLCS vs. San Diego to send Citizens Bank Park into an absolute frenzy. The Phillies went on to that game, 4-3. In addition, watch out for Phillies starting pitchers Aaron Nola and Zack Wheeler in the World Series. Nola and Wheeler have pitched very well in the postseason for the most part (sans Nola's outing in Game 2 of the NLCS vs. San Diego).

For the Astros, can Jose Altuve finally get himself going in the World Series? Altuve is just 2-for-31 in his at-bats while Houston has won seven straight playoff games to get to this point. In addition, how about Houston's rookie Jeremy Pena?! Pena, who was named the ALCS MVP for his performance in the four-game sweep against the Yankees, had a three-run home run that turned Game 4 around for the Astros. Pena continues to seize the moment and take full advantage of it.

The Phillies and Astros will kick off the 2022 World Series on Friday, October 28 at 8:00 PM (ET) on FOX as Houston will host Philadelphia in Game 1. The Astros will have homefield advantage in the Fall Classic, with the Astros set to host Game 1, Game 2, Game 6 (if necessary) & Game 7 (if necessary). The Phillies, meanwhile, will host the remaining games: Game 3, Game 4, & Game 5 (if necessary).

The 2022 World Series will be called by Joe Davis (play-by-play), who is on the call for his first-ever World Series, working alongside Hall of Fame pitcher John Smoltz (analyst). Davis and Smoltz will be joined by reporters Ken Rosenthal and Tom Verducci throughout the duration of the series.
