For the first time ever, I will keep track of CBS Sports' coverage of college football! I am very excited to announce this new project, alongside the introduction of NBC Sports' coverage of college football to my blog. I am looking for new things to cover, and I kinda figured this will be the logical next step.
CBS has announced their early game selections and broadcast windows for their coverage of the SEC, Mountain West, and the Big Ten during the upcoming 2023 college football season.
As a side note, CBS unfortunately is beginning their final season with rights to the Southeastern Conference (SEC), before ESPN/ABC become the exclusive broadcasters of the conference starting with the 2024 season.
CBS has 28 games on their broadcast network in 2023, including regular season games, the SEC Championship, the annual Army/Navy game, and the Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl, just to highlight a few things.
CBS begins yet another season of televising college football with a doubleheader on Saturday, September 2 - during the season's opening weekend - Ohio State at Indiana (3:30 PM, ET) followed by Texas Tech at Wyoming (7:30 PM, ET). In fact, these are just two of the four games that the CBS broadcast network will be televising on Labor Day Weekend.
The following day, Sunday, September 3, CBS' opening weekend of college football coverage continues with two more games. Up first, Northwestern visits Rutgers (12:00 PM, ET) serving as a lead-in to the Oregon State at San Jose State game (3:30 PM, ET).
Beginning with the Ohio State-Indiana game (Sept. 2), CBS Sports begins their relationship with the Big Ten Conference in terms of showing their football season. CBS has seven games/windows for Big Ten football in 2023 before CBS clears out their schedule in 2024 for a full season of Big Ten football at 3:30 PM, ET (replacing the network's current marquee SEC game).
Other Big Ten on CBS schedule highlights include: two-time defending Big Ten champion Michigan hosting UNLV on Saturday, September 9 (3:30 PM, ET) and Penn State hosting Iowa in the Nittany Lion's annual White Out contest in primetime on Saturday, September 23 (7:30 PM, ET).
As a added bonus, CBS has Big Ten football slated for Saturday, October 28 and Saturday, November 4, both beginning at 12:00 PM, ET.
The Texas Tech-Wyoming game (Sept. 2) is the first of three Mountain West games planned on the CBS broadcast network in 2023. CBS also has the previously mentioned Oregon State-San Jose State game (Sept. 3) and a game between San Diego State and UCLA on Saturday, September 9 (7:30 PM, ET).
The final season of the "SEC on CBS" package begins on Saturday, September 16 (3:30 PM, ET) when two-time defending champion Georgia hosts South Carolina.
CBS will once again air the annual Georgia-Florida rivalry on Saturday, October 28 (3:30 PM, ET) from Jacksonville. Plus, a Missouri and Arkansas Black Friday contest gets national treatment on CBS (Friday, November 24; 4 PM, ET).
Furthermore, CBS has two SEC doubleheaders planned -- an afternoon doubleheader on Saturday, October 14 and a primetime doubleheader on Saturday, November 4.
The 2023 college football schedule on CBS has two Commander-in-Chief's Trophy games, with Air Force at Navy on Saturday, October 21 (12:00 PM, ET) and the annual Army vs. Navy game from Gillette Stadium in Foxborough on Saturday, December 9 (3:00 PM, ET).
The 2023 schedule on CBS concludes on Friday, December 29, with the network's presentation of Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl at 2:00 PM, ET.
