ABC has officially announced a “throwback” broadcast as part of the NBA: Summer Series 50th anniversary, with Bob Costas (play-by-play), Pat Riley (analyst), Magic Johnson (analyst), Nancy Lieberman (reporter) & Lewis Johnson (reporter) as they are set to call the Los Angeles Clippers vs. Washington Wizards contest on Monday, September 14 at 3:00 PM ET on ABC & ESPN App. This closes out the Summer Series’ summer-long “throwback” series, reuniting former Summer Series commentators.

Costas, Riley & Johnson worked together as the lead Summer Series studio team for 12 seasons, between 1991 and 2002. Nearly 25 years later, the three are paired together again for the 16th and final throwback broadcast of the summer.

“We are so happy to have Bob, Pat & Magic, three legendary figures in their own individual ways, close out our summer of special event broadcasts,” said Tamir Moore, longtime NBA Summer Series play-by-play announcer and reporter. “Monday is a culmination of an entire summer’s worth of hard work, decidation, and coordination to not only organize these broadcasts, but to get them on the air.”

“I am excited that ABC allowed me to come over to their network to call this throwback game,” said Bob Costas, former Summer Series play-by-play commentator (1977-82) and studio host (1989-2002). “To be working alongside two legends in Pat & Magic is a supreme thrill and I can’t wait to get to Washington for the game on Monday.”

“Being involved in the NBA for nearly 50 years as a player and now as a broadcaster is truly an honor,” said Magic Johnson, a five-time champion who lent his expertise to the Summer Series as a studio analyst for nearly 30 years (1980-2002; 2007-2012). “I am blessed that ABC asked me to be part of this special game with Bob & Pat. Can’t wait to educate the fans and partake in this special event.”

“I have seen the NBA grow and change over my 60 years around the Association, from my time as a player to a coach and most recently an executive,’ said Pat Riley, who won five NBA championships as a head coach between the Lakers (four) and Heat (one). Riley spent 12 seasons as an NBA Summer Series studio analyst from 1991-2002, primarily working with Bob Costas, Magic Johnson, and the late great Steve “Snapper” Jones. "Monday’s game in Washington should be a great one, especially with the 9/11 tribute prior to the game.”

As mentioned earlier, a special 9/11 tribute will air before the Clippers-Wizards game at Capital One Arena. 184 people were killed at the Pentagon on September 11, 2001, including 125 people inside the building and all 64 people aboard American Airlines Flight 77.

Furthermore, ABC will bring its pregame and postgame shows on the road to surround Monday’s special game presentation. “NBA Countdown presented by Google” airs from Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C., starting at 2:00 PM ET. Paul Burmeister serves as host, with NBA champions Antonio Daniels and Avery Johnson, Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer Tim Duncan & insider Ramona Shelburne. After the game, stay tuned for postgame coverage & analysis on “NBA: After the Buzzer presented by Chime”, beginning at 5:30 PM ET, with Burmeister, Daniels, Johnson, Duncan & Shelburne once again reporting from Washington.

Throughout the day, 9/11 stories and miraculous survival stories from that horrible day will be shared during studio and game coverage.
