• Bob Costas & Walt Frazier, who called NBA: Summer Series games together during the early 1980s, will reunite for NBC’s Sunday Night Basketball broadcast of Pacers vs. Magic on Sunday, August 30 at 7:00 PM ET.

• Experienced sportscaster Mary Carillo handles sideline reporting during the evening.

• Sunday’s Throwback broadcast is the second of the week, with the Warriors-Hornets game on Wednesday night being the other.

• Studio coverage on Sunday night features Maria Taylor, Carmelo Anthony, Vince Carter, and Tracy McGrady live from Mortgage Matchup Center in Phoenix, ahead of Thunder-Suns.

• Costas & Frazier are slated to appear on the NBA Showtime pregame show ahead of their throwback game (6:30 PM ET).

NBC announced on Sunday that veteran sportscaster Bob Costas and New York Knicks legend Walt “Clyde” Frazier will team up to call NBC’s game broadcast of the Indiana Pacers vs. Orlando Magic on Sunday, August 30 at 7:00 PM ET on NBC and Peacock. Mary Carillo will join Costas & Frazier as the sideline reporter. This reunion broadcast is part of the NBA Summer Series’ year-long celebration of the franchise’s 50th anniversary season.

For three seasons in the early 1980s (1980-82), Costas and Frazier called NBA Summer Series games. Their assignments included regular season and playoff games. On September 12, 1982, Costas and Frazier called their last game together as a broadcast team — Game 4 of the Western Conference Semifinals between the Seattle SuperSonics and the San Antonio Spurs. Now, more than four decades later, Costas and Frazier are reunited once again. In fact, this is the first of two times that Costas and Frazier will be paired for a game broadcast. On Sunday, September 27, Costas and Frazier join forces once more to call the 50th-anniversary NBA: Summer Series broadcast, a Sunday Night Basketball game between the Los Angeles Lakers and the New York Knicks (alongside Lakers legend Magic Johnson, Knicks legend Carmelo Anthony, & longtime NBC host/reporter Hannah Storm). ✱ Bob Costas — Play-By-Play:

29-time Emmy Award winner Bob Costas serves as play-by-play announcer for NBC Sports’ Pacers-Magic throwback broadcast on Sunday night. Costas is best known for his lengthy tenure with NBC Sports, from 1980-2019 and 2026-present. During his time at NBC Sports, Costas either hosted or called play-by-play of several sports, including the NBA, the NFL, and MLB, the NHL, college basketball, and the Olympics, among other notable assignments. Additionally, Costas has worked for other networks during his Hall of Fame career, including HBO Sports, Turner Sports, and the MLB Network. In 2024, Costas retired from play-by-play announcing after over 40 years in the role.

As far as the Summer Series is concerned, Costas spent 16 years as either a play-by-play commentator or studio host. Bob called play-by-play from 1980-1982. Then, Costas moved into a studio host role from 1989-2002.

✱ Walt Frazier — Analyst:

Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer and two-time NBA champion Walt Frazier takes the role of game analyst for Sunday’s special Pacers-Magic broadcast, working alongside Bob Costas. Frazier spent 13 years in the NBA, splitting his time between the Knicks (10 seasons) and Cavaliers (3 seasons). Frazier was a member of the New York Knicks’ championship-winning teams in 1970 and 1973. Frazier was eventually inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1987.

Frazier, of course, has found success in the broadcasting world. Currently, Frazier is a game analyst for New York Knicks television broadcasts on MSG Network, primarily with fellow Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer Mike Breen. Frazier has been broadcasting for the Knicks since 1989, starting on radio (1989-98) before switching over to television beginning in 1999.

Walt has contributed his insight and expertise to Summer Series broadcasts for 16 years as an analyst, from 1980-89, 1991-93, & 2003-05.

Pregame coverage for Pacers vs. Magic begins Sunday night at 6:30 PM ET on NBC and Peacock with Basketball Night in America presented by Wendy’s. NBC Sports’ Maria Taylor leads the pregame show, joined by a cast of Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famers Carmelo Anthony, Vince Carter, and Tracy McGrady. Costas and Frazier will have a segment on the pregame show discussing their three-year partnership from the early 1980s and offering their takes ahead of the Pacers-Magic game.
