Hello, everybody! On Sunday, ABC announced that the NBA Summer Series broadcast team of Ryan Ruocco, JJ Redick, Rebecca Lobo, and Susan Reutter will reunite to commentate the Oklahoma City Thunder vs. Utah Jazz game on Sunday, August 2 at 10:30 PM ET on ABC and the ESPN App. This will be the second throwback broadcast of the week, as Kevin Harlan, Reggie Miller, and Chris Webber will team up to call a Pistons-Bucks game earlier in the week. Ruocco, Redick, Lobo, and Reutter served as the #4 broadcast team for the NBA Summer Series from 2015-2018, calling regular-season and playoff games.
On September 14, 2018, Ruocco, Redick, Lobo, and Reutter covered the Toronto Raptors vs. Washington Wizards Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals. Until Sunday night, it was the last time they worked as an official NBA Summer Series broadcast team. Now, nearly eight years later, they are teaming up again for Sunday’s special Thunder-Jazz broadcast.
Ryan, JJ, and Rebecca displayed undeniable chemistry and a strong bond during their four seasons together (2015-18), according to Tamir Moore, the longtime NBA Summer Series play-by-play commentator and sideline reporter. “And now, seeing them reunite for Sunday’s Thunder-Jazz game is truly a dream come true.”
“I am so pumped for Sunday's Thunder-Jazz broadcast as I work alongside two of my dear friends, Rebecca and JJ,” said Ryan Ruocco, a current play-by-play man for the NBA Summer Series (2013-2022; 2026-present). “Rebecca and I go way back considering our WNBA background and JJ, and I spent a few years together calling games too. Expect plenty of nostalgia and laughter during our broadcast.”
“RR and I have spent 14 years together calling games in some shape or form,” said Rebecca Lobo, a current studio analyst for Summer Series coverage (and formerly covered games). “To share the Summer Series broadcast booth with him one more time is a prestigious honor and something that I didn’t take lightly.”
“I dearly miss broadcasting NBA games, and I can’t wait to return to broadcasting at least for one day,” said JJ Redick, a former NBA Summer Series game analyst who now serves as the head coach for the Los Angeles Lakers. “Ryan, RJ [Richard Jefferson], and I called a lot of games together during our brief run. To reunite with Ryan for Sunday’s game in Salt Lake City is exciting and I can't wait for the broadcast to start.”
In addition to covering Summer Series games, Ryan Ruocco also works for ESPN, where he has worked since 2008, calling several sports properties, including the NBA and WNBA. Formerly, Ruocco contributed to ESPN’s NFL and college football coverage. Besides that, Ruocco is also a respected local sports voice, covering the Brooklyn Nets and the New York Yankees for YES Network in New York City.
Rebecca Lobo is a Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame member. Lobo played in the WNBA from 1997 through 2003 (except for 2000, when she missed that season due to injury). Since 2004, Lobo has worked for ESPN, primarily covering WNBA games. Lobo has called select NBA games during her tenure at ESPN. Rebecca called Summer Series games from 2015-2018 and again 2021-2022. In 2025, Lobo transitioned to the studio, where she serves as one of ESPN’s main Summer Series studio analysts.
JJ Redick spent 15 years in the NBA from 2006-2021, playing for the Magic, Clippers, 76ers, Pelicans, Bucks, and Mavericks. After his playing career ended in 2021, Redick transitioned into broadcasting, calling NBA games for ESPN/ABC from 2021-24 before leaving to take the head coaching job with the Los Angeles Lakers. Redick spent time as a Summer Series game analyst from 2015-19 and again in 2024.
Thunder-Jazz marks the final game of ABC’s four-game Sunday lineup via the “NBA Sunday Showcase” package. At 12:30 PM ET, Jalen Suggs and the Orlando Magic visit Karl-Anthony Towns and the New York Knicks. Then, at 3:00 PM ET, Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors take on Josh Giddey and the Chicago Bulls. A divisional clash takes center stage at 5:30 PM ET when Jaylen Brown and the Boston Celtics meet Scottie Barnes and the Toronto Raptors from Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Ontario.
During Sunday’s coverage, Ruocco, Lobo, Redick, and Reutter will join the Inside the NBA studio team of Ernie Johnson Jr., Charles Barkley, Shaquille O’Neal, and Kenny “The Jet” Smith.
