• Mike Tirico, Greg Anthony, & Jeff Van Gundy, who served as one of the Summer Series studio crews from 2003-06, will team up to call Warriors vs. Hornets on Wednesday, August 26 (4:30 PM ET).

• Wednesday’s throwback broadcast is one of two this week, with Pacers-Magic on Sunday night as the other telecast.

• Tirico, Anthony & Van Gundy to appear on NBA Countdown to reflect on their time together and preview Wednesday’s special game presentation.

ABC announced Sunday that play-by-play commentator Mike Tirico will be alongside game analysts Greg Anthony and Jeff Van Gundy for a special one-off broadcast of the Golden State Warriors vs. Charlotte Hornets on Wednesday, August 26 at 4:30 PM ET on ABC and the ESPN App. This special reunion comes two decades after Tirico, Anthony, and Van Gundy last worked together as a studio team. Tirico, Anthony, and Van Gundy formed one of the Summer Series’ studio crews for four seasons, between 2003 and 2006.

Additionally, longtime SportsCenter anchor Stan Verrett will join this trio as the sideline reporter for the matchup.

Wednesday’s Warriors vs. Hornets game is the first of an ABC tripleheader, with Suns vs. Cavaliers at 7:00 PM ET and Wizards vs. Bucks at 9:30 PM ET completing the tripleheader.

As the Summer Series continues the year-long celebration of their 50th anniversary, the throwback series (16 special one-off broadcasts) reaches the 11th one, with five more planned for the remainder of the summer.

Here are quick bios for each of the commentators involved in Wednesday’s Warriors vs. Hornets ABC throwback broadcast:

Mike Tirico — Play-By-Play:

Mike Tirico is a sportscasting veteran, boasting nearly 35 years of experience as of 2026. Currently, Tirico serves as a host and play-by-play commentator for NBC Sports, notably as the lead announcer for both their NFL and NBA coverage. Tirico first joined NBC Sports in 2026 following a 25-year tenure with ABC/ESPN (1991-2026). Besides football and basketball, Mike has experience in other sports, including golf, college basketball, and college football, among other key events.

As far as his Summer Series résumé is concerned, Tirico enters his 15th season as a member of the NBA Summer Series broadcasting team in 2026. Mike began as a studio host from 2003-15, before moving into a play-by-play role starting in 2025. Tirico is the lead announcer for NBC Sports’ NBA Summer Series coverage, primarily working alongside the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer Reggie Miller and three-time Sixth Man of the Year award winner Jamal Crawford.

Greg Anthony — Analyst:

11-year NBA veteran Greg Anthony serves as one of the game analysts for Wednesday’s Warriors-Hornets game on ABC, alongside Jeff Van Gundy. Anthony, who was selected No. 12 overall by the Knicks in 1991, played for six different franchises during his time in the Association. Before that, Anthony was a member of the 1990 National Champion UNLV Runnin Rebels. Following Anthony’s time in the NBA, Greg began working in broadcasting for ABC and ESPN. In 2008, Anthony began working for CBS Sports. Eventually, Anthony worked for NBA TV and Turner Sports, calling games and providing regular studio analysis.

Anthony worked as a studio analyst for the NBA Summer Series from 2003-06, working alongside Tirico and Van Gundy. Now, 20 years later, Anthony reunites with his old studio teammates from the early ESPN/ABC NBA Summer Series days.

Jeff Van Gundy — Analyst:

Jeff Van Gundy is currently the lead assistant coach for the Los Angeles Clippers. Before this position, Van Gundy had a long and storied broadcasting career, calling games for ESPN/ABC from 2007-23, including 17 NBA Finals alongside Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer Mike Breen and 15 with longtime friend (and former Knicks star) Mark Jackson.

Of course, Van Gundy is probably best known for his lengthy tenure with the New York Knicks, first as an assistant coach for many seasons, then as head coach from 1995 to 2001, helping the Knicks reach the NBA Finals in 1999 (before losing to the Spurs). Also, Van Gundy coached the Houston Rockets from 2003-2007.

Van Gundy has extensive NBA Summer Series broadcasting games, having spent 27 years covering games as either a game analyst (1991-2002, 2015-2022) and studio analyst (2003-2009).

Pregame coverage for Wednesday’s Warriors vs. Hornets game begins at 4:00 PM ET with NBA Countdown, presented by Google, airing on ABC and the ESPN App. Longtime NBA Summer Series play-by-play commentator Treye Whitfield hosts the studio show from ESPN’s Los Angeles studios, joined by Lorrie Ellis, NBA veteran Jeremy Lin, Monica McNutt, and Courtney Cronin.
