NBC to Present SNF-High Three Playoff Games, Including First-Ever Primetime Sunday Wild Card Game on Jan. 10

NBC Sports announced their 2020 NFL season schedule on Thursday night. NBC will be the home for 24 games during the 2020 season: 19 regular season games, 3 postseason games & 2 preseason games during the month of August.

Sunday Night Football returns to the NBC broadcast network for the 15th straight season in 2020.

NBC will televise the first matchup of the 2020 regular season on Thursday, Sept. 10, from Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Mo. Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes and the defending Super Bowl Champions Kansas City Chiefs raise their Super Bowl banner prior to hosting Deshaun Watson and the Houston Texans in NFL Kickoff 2020 at 8:20 p.m. ET.

The Texans and the Chiefs played twice at Arrowhead Stadium, once during the regular season (Week 6) and during the postseason (AFC Divisional Playoffs). In the regular season contest, Mahomes and Watson combined for six touchdowns, including Deshaun's game winning touchdown on a fourth quarter run.

In the rematch in January during the AFC Divisional Playoffs, Patrick led the largest comeback in Chiefs franchise history (24-0 2nd quarter deficit) passing for 321 yards and 5 touchdowns in a 51-31 victory.

In the season opener of Sunday Night Football on Sept. 13, NFL fans will get their first look at the new SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif. Dak Prescott and the Cowboys visit Jared Goff and the Rams. SoFi Stadium marks the fifth stadium opening on Sunday Night Football, dating back to 2009.

The Mahomes-Watson matchup in the opening salavo is just the first of a loaded NBC SNF schedule with terrific and exciting quarterback matchups, spearheaded by Aaron Rodgers and the Packers visiting the NFL all-time passing yards leader Drew Brees on Sept. 27 & Brees and the Saints visiting four-time NFL MVP Tom Brady and his new Tampa Bay Buccaneers teammates on Nov. 8.

In addition to NFL Kickoff 2020, NBC will televise three playoff games this season - two Wild Card and one Divisional round game. This amount of games is the most playoff games that NBC has televised since their package debuted in 2006.

On the weekend of January 9-10, NBC will present two Wild Card playoff games, including the NFL's first-ever Sunday night Wild Card playoff game (the game that was added in March, when the NFL expanded the playoffs from 12 to 14 teams).

The following weekend, January 16-17, NBC will finish their season with coverage of an AFC Divisional Playoff Game (whatever game CBS does NOT get).

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, this schedule is subject to change.

The 2020 Sunday Night Football on NBC schedule is below:

Preseason (cancelled):
On July 21, the NFL and NFLPA reached a tentative agreement to cancel all preseason games. NBC was scheduled to carry the Hall of Fame Game between the Steelers and Cowboys on August 6th (that was already cancelled in advance) and Panthers at Ravens on August 30th.

  1. My guess for games that will get flexed out
    Week 5 MIN SEA for PHI PIT
    Week 11 KC LV for TEN BAL or DAL MIN
    Week 12 CHI GB for KC TB
    Week 14 PIT BUF for NO PHI

    1. The only game I see having a good chance is Ten-Bal. Week 5 is too early and it would have to be supremely obvious Phi-Pit will be the game to switch to with no shred of doubt. Min or Sea would have to start out 0-3 for the NFL to decide a week in advance they want to switch that game. Plus Dal-Min, KC-TB, and NO-Phi all figure to be the main late double-header games. The NFL does not switch those games into SNF, but rather games that originally would be seen be a relatively small audience.

  2. I'm guessing Mike Trico, Rodney Harrison, and Tony Dungy does the thanksgiving game again this year

  3. Just came out that Mike Tirico is calling the Week 3 SNF game in place of Al Michaels

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. That's right. NBC will be giving Al Michaels select "bye weeks" during the season to minimize travel (because unlike Tirico who lives in Michigan, Michaels lives in Los Angeles, Calif.). Tirico will be used to call any games that Michaels will be using for any reason this year.

  4. NBC Should consider flexing out 49ers Eagles in week 4, 49ers have so many injuries just like the Eagles do and plus both teams as of right now have a combined 1 win between them. Steelers Titans or Bills Raiders should be considered as its replacement.

    ReplyDelete
  5. NBC should consider flexing out Vikings-Seahawks in Week 5. Vikings are 0-2 this season. I think Raiders Chiefs should be considered a replacement.

    1. I figured that, too. It looks like the LV-KC game will be seen by most of the country this week on CBS' first slot in their DH. All the other games are pretty much just local so at least a lot of people can see that one. And of course the Vikings are not looking so good this year. But sometimes it seems the NFL sometimes is okay with wanting match-ups as long as a hot team is on display.

  6. NBC should've flexed out MIN-SEA for BUF-TEN for Week 5.
    They could flex out TB-LV for PIT-BAL for Week 8.
    Week 13 --> DEN-KC could be flexed out for KC-TB.
    Week 17 --> SEA-SF flexed in due to NFC West Division Implications.

  7. Whoops, Week 13 --> DEN-KC could be flexed out for CLE-TEN my bad.

  8. SNF flex predictions
    Week 7 --> TB-LV moves to Fox @ 4:05 and PIT-TEN moves to SNF.
    Week 8 --> DAL-PHI moves to CBS @ 1:00 and PIT-BAL moves to SNF.
    Week 13 --> DEN-KC moves to Fox @ 4:05 and either CLE-TEN or LA-ARI moves to SNF.
    Week 17 --> SEA-SF moves to SNF.
    What do you think of these predictions Tamir?

  10. The NFL needs to flex out the Cowboys@Eagles game in week 8 out of SNF NOW. No one and I mean no from the sorry NFC Least deserve to be in prime time. Raiders Browns, Bears Saints, 49ers Seahawks, Patriots Bills or Steelers Ravens are all deserving more on Sunday Night Football than this sorry match-up of Eagles Cowboys. If the NFL can't make this flex someone from the NFL Scheduling department should be fired, I don't see how its that hard of a decision to make, flex them to Noon now NFL, DO IT, DO IT Now.

      Titans vs. Bengals (Greg Gumbel, Rich Gannon, Jay Feely)
      Colts vs. Lions (Andrew Catalon, James Lofton, Michael Grady)

      Chargers vs. Broncos (Spero Dedes & Adam Archuleta)

  11. Just FYI I believe the Raiders have a COVID-19 situation therefore the Tampa Bay Buccaneers game at Vegas against them has been moved to earlier in the day and Seahawks and Cardinals is Sunday Night Football in week 7

    ReplyDelete
  12. NFL made a late scheduling change for this week. They have flexed out the Buccaneers-Raiders game out of NBC and put Seattle @ Arizona in it's spot. This is due to a couple of Raiders players testing positive for Covid-19. Buccaneers @ Raiders game so far will be at 4:05pm on FOX

  18. Well Nick Foles left the game late with a shoulder injury on a cart. If I were the NFL, I would flex out the Bears Packers game out of week 12 in the SNF Slot on Thanksgiving weekend and replace it with Titans Colts match-up. The Bears don’t deserve to primetime with that garbage offense and no one wants to see Trubsiky or Tyler Bray in primetime do they?????????????
