Sunday Night Baseball's television broadcast teams return for a second season
ESPN: Karl Ravech (pxp), David Cone (analyst), Eduardo Perez (analyst) & Buster Olney (reporter)
ESPN2: Michael Kay (co-host) & Alex Rodriguez (co-host) once again will team up for the KayRod Cast, an alternate presentation of Sunday Night Baseball on select Sunday nights on ESPN2
As the year 2022 begins to wind down to a close, ESPN has begun the process of choosing games for Sunday Night Baseball, ESPN's home for the exclusive game of the week in Major League Baseball, for the 2023 MLB season. The 2023 season will mark the 34th season of the program and will show a 2022 World Series rematch along with regular appearances from some of MLB's top playmakers. Sunday Night Baseball begins on Sunday, April 2 as Trea Turner and the defending National League Champion Philadelphia Phillies visit the Texas Rangers. Sunday Night Baseball will once again air at 7 p.m. (ET) throughout the year.
ESPN's first MLB regular season broadcast for 2023 will be on Opening Night, Thursday, March 30, as the defending World Series champions Houston Astros host the Chicago White Sox at 7 p.m. (ET).
2023 Sunday Night Baseball highlights:
- Top players now playing for new teams, including Jacob deGrom (Rangers), Justin Verlander (Mets), Carlos Rodon (Yankees), Trea Turner (Phillies), Xander Bogaerts (Padres) & Carlos Correa (Twins)
- Appearances from the some of the league's best, including Mookie Betts, Jose Altuve, Aaron Judge (coming off his record-breaking 62 home run season in 2022), and more
- 2022 World Series rematch on Sunday, April 30: Defending National League champion Philadelphia Phillies visit defending World Series champion Houston Astros
- Iconic teams battle on Sunday, June 4: Mookie Betts and the Los Angeles Dodgers host the New York Yankees
- One of baseball's most historic rivalries on Sunday, June 18: Boston Red Sox host Aaron Judge and the New York Yankees
- Four appearances by Trea Turner and the Philadelphia Phillies
- Two appearances by Houston Astros, Atlanta Braves, Texas Rangers, and New York Yankees
- The Padres' robust lineup takes the national stage on Sunday, April 9: San Diego Padres vs. Atlanta Braves

Is there not gonna be a SNB game for 10/1?
ReplyDelete@Mark T. As of now, no. ESPN is scheduled to televise 25 "Sunday Night Baseball" games exclusively this year.
DeleteHere is the "SNB" schedule (as I tabulated it myself):
1: 4/2 - PHI/TEX

4: 4/23 - NYM/SF

23: 9/10 - COL/SF
24: 9/17 - TBD

The final week of the season will not have a Sunday night game since ESPN already reached their limit of 25 SNB games.
Oh. I understand now.

Once again, a light MLB national television schedule this week due to FOX airing CFB all day Saturday, thus preventing from any MLB games at all.

DeleteThe Dodgers-Giants game will be flexed into SNB on September 24th at 7pm eastern. And of course, Ravech, Perez, Cone and Olney will be the announcers.
ReplyDelete, Karl
@Mark T. Thanks man
DeleteYou're welcome. Also, ignore the Karl at the end. It was a mistake.
DeleteESPN could not bother to give the Mariners a Sunday Night Game against the Rays or the Dodgers. One of the reason I don't like ESPN, very disappointing.
ReplyDeleteIMO, the Marlins and Phillies should have been in the SNB spot for this coming Sunday (might be a bit biased being a Phillies fan)
Delete@Mark T. No, Mark, you are not wrong! in fact, Miami vs. Philadelphia is a big weekend series (Philly trying to create more breathing room for the 1st wild card and Miami trying to keep their hopes alive for a playoff berth). The Colorado-San Francisco game selection looks pretty dumb in hindsight.
DeleteYeah, the Rockies are going nowhere. I don't know what ESPN was thinking.
DeleteI agree with you Mark. It's just frustrating that the Rockies & Diamondback's are getting a Sunday Night Game while the Mariners aren't, although I understand why the Diamondback's are.
DeleteYeah. But the Mariners have a good chance of being on Fox for 9/30 against the Rangers.
DeleteWhy's Boog Sciambi calling the game tonight? Is Ravech calling the US open or something?
ReplyDelete@Mark T. Quite honestly, Mark, I don't know. Karl Ravech does not cover tennis, so I guess just a random week off for Ravech.
DeleteVery interesting. Wonder who called the Cubs game for Marquee Sports.
DeleteHappy Monday! Attached is this week's national broadcast schedule in MLB. Hard to believe that October playoff baseball is almost here:
ReplyDelete. NYY/BOS (Tuesday, TBS)
. NYY/BOS (Thursday, FOX regional)
. TB/BAL (Thursday, FOX regional)
. CHC/ARI (Sunday, ESPN) - Karl Ravech, Eduardo Pérez, David Cone, Buster Olney (confirmed)
Once more, another light week of limited national games. FOX is airing a CFB tripleheader (Noon ET, 4 PM ET & 8 PM ET) this Saturday, so that's why FOX is airing MLB on Thursday night. Plus, FS1 is booked with CFB (Noon ET, 3:30 PM ET, 7 PM ET & 10:3 PM ET) on Saturday. No FS1 baseball this week. However, they will be back next week with MIN-CIN on Monday & NYM-MIA on Wednesday.
A situation worth mentioning (inconsequential to many) -- in Philadelphia, to the MIN-PHI TNF game airing on WTXF/Fox 29, MLB is unfortunately moving to a another channel.
* 10:30 PM ET on the FS1 late-night broadcast
DeleteWhich Wild Card series will Ravech and company be calling?
ReplyDelete@Mark T. Don't know yet, Mark. We will find out later on this week, when the Wild Card series matchups are finalized. I'm sorry for not getting to you sooner, I'm dealing with some issues right now.
DeleteOk. Sorry to hear that.
DeleteAlden Gonzalez has confirmed that his team will be calling the Twins wildcard series.
ReplyDelete
