Happy Monday, TamirMoore.com family! I hope you had a fantastic weekend. This week, the last days of August are set to happen right in front of us. The 2025 regular season has roughly a month left, and so much is still on the line.
Welcome to this week's edition of MLB on Fox: On Deck, a weekly article series that previews games that Fox Sports carries every Saturday during the regular season. We are discussing the Saturday, August 30 slate this week, which sees Fox carry three games at 7:00 PM (ET) that will be televised on a regional basis, including Detroit at Kansas City, Seattle at Cleveland, and Baltimore at San Francisco.
As this week gets underway, Fox will spotlight several teams competing for a spot in the 2025 MLB Postseason, including the MLB-best Detroit Tigers, Seattle Mariners, Kansas City Royals, Baltimore Orioles, San Francisco Giants, & the Cleveland Guardians.
With that introduction taken care of, let's dive straight into the game previews for each game on the MLB on Fox lineup this Saturday.
A pair of American League Central clubs go head-to-head on Saturday evening as Jahmai Jones and the Detroit Tigers square off against Kyle Isbel and the Kansas City Royals on Saturday, August 30 at 7:00 PM (ET) on Fox. This season series has largely been controlled by Detroit, taking four of six matchups. The Tigers have outscored the Royals 34-20 in these head-to-head contests. As you know, the Tigers possess the best record in the American League. Kansas City has found a way to re-enter the American League playoff conversation as they have gone 20-14 since the All-Star Break last month. This series is a key one for both squads, as the playoff futures for both teams could be changed pending this weekend's series results. Detroit could offer a major monkey wrench in Kansas City's playoff chances with a series victory. However, Kansas City can knock Detroit out of first place in the American League Central with a successful series outcome. Since the Midsummer Classic, Royals 1B Vinnie Pasquantino has been a bright spot. Pasquantino has collected 13 home runs so far and aims to blast more big flies during this divisional confrontation against the best team in the Junior Circuit. 🎤 The broadcast team includes play-by-play commentator Jason Benetti and analyst and 2005 World Series champion AJ Pierzynski.
Two American League teams involved in the Wild Card hunt get together under the primetime lights when J.P. Crawford and the Seattle Mariners challenge Bo Naylor and the Cleveland Guardians on Saturday, August 30, at 7:00 PM (ET) on Fox. The Mariners & Guardians match up for the second time this year, after Seattle swept Cleveland in a three-game series over the course of Father's Day Weekend. Both teams have their eyes focused on postseason play this October. The Mariners look to return to the playoffs following a two-year absence. The Guardians, on the other hand, aim to play playoff baseball for the second consecutive year following their ALCS run last season. Julio Rodríguez and the Mariners enter play this week up three games over the Royals for the final AL Wild Card spot. In addition, Seattle is very much a player in the American League West in case Jose Altuve and the Astros falter down the stretch (Seattle trails Houston by two games for the AL West lead). Steven Kwan and the Guardians sit five games behind the Mariners for the last playoff berth in the Junior Circuit as of today. This is a big series for the Guardians, looking to close the gap between themselves and the Mariners for AL Wild Card #3. Y'all already know that Mariners C Cal Raleigh is pretty damn good. The "Big Dumper" has 49 home runs this season, setting the new record by an MLB catcher in a single season. Raleigh's offensive production has fueled the Mariners all season long. Look out for Raleigh as the Mariners play the Guardians. He might have some more incredible magic waiting in the wings. 🎤 Aaron Goldsmith (play-by-play) and Hall of Famer John Smoltz (analyst) will provide commentary.
This Saturday night affair features an interleague game as Gunnar Henderson and the Baltimore Orioles travel west to play Rafael Devers and the San Francisco Giants on Saturday, August 30 at 7:00 PM (ET) on Fox. This weekend represents the only time that the Orioles & Giants will see each other in the regular season. Last year, the Giants claimed a series victory over the Orioles, taking two of three in a three-game series played at Baltimore's Oriole Park at Camden Yards. Flash forward to today, where both teams sit below .500 and are searching for late-season momentum. Baltimore faces a nine and a half game deficit for the final AL Wild Card spot (held by the Mariners) as the new week starts. In other words, time is running out for Baltimore to keep their playoff hopes alive. Hopefully, this West Coast swing sees the Orioles get on a roll. San Francisco has struggled since the All-Star Break, going 11-23 in 34 games. However, San Francisco did win a series vs. the best team in the Senior Circuit, the Milwaukee Brewers, this past weekend. Let's see if the Giants can build off this series win in Milwaukee and carry that with them over the final 30 regular-season games. Pay close attention to Orioles shortstop Gunnar Henderson. Henderson sets the pace for Baltimore in terms of the batting average (.283), home runs (16), & runs batted in (59). 🎤 In the broadcast booth, play-by-play commentator Don Orsillo teams up with analyst Eric Karros.
