Hi, everyone! I hope that you had a wonderful Thanksgiving with your friends and your family. And now, we look ahead to Week 14 as the first full week of December concludes with a full slate of regional action on CBS this Sunday, December 8. There is less than one month left in the NFL's 105th regular season, so these last few regular season weeks come with more higher stakes than earlier in the season. With that in mind, let me provide you with an official welcome to the Week 14 NFL on CBS: Field Pass.
On Sunday (December 8), CBS Sports will regionally televise one of five games to stations (markets) across the country. These games include: Browns at Steelers (1:00 PM ET), Jets at Dolphins (1:00 PM ET), Jaguars at Titans (1:00 PM ET), Raiders at Buccaneers (1:00 PM ET) & Seahawks at Cardinals (4:05 PM ET, late). Which CBS contest is your market scheduled to receive and which announcer pairing will you be listening to? Read on to figure out the answer.
For this week's NFL on CBS: Field Pass, we will cover several topics that include: the weekly broadcast schedule, commentators for each of the games on CBS this week & distribution splits (in terms of individual markets). I really do appreciate your interest and thirst for the regionalization articles that I publish each week about the National Football League. Let's get the ball rolling on Week 14 (Week 14, already?!)
As per usual, CBS Sports will preview the forthcoming Week 14 NFL on CBS slate on "The NFL Today", starting at 12:00 PM ET. James Brown hosts the one-hour program alongside a full cast of analysts and football pundits, including Hall of Fame coach Bill Cowher, former NFL wide receiver Nate Burleson, 2016 NFL MVP Matt Ryan & three-time Defensive Player of the Year JJ Watt. Additionally, lead CBS Sports NFL insider Jonathan Jones appears on the program to provide the latest news and information from around the National Football League leading up to the kickoff of Sunday's games.
For viewers scheduled to receive an early game as the lone CBS game this week, live coverage begins at 1:00 PM ET. CBS will be regionalizing four games during this window - Browns at Steelers (Primary; 63% of Markets), Jets at Dolphins (11% of Markets), Jaguars at Titans (6% of Markets) & Raiders at Buccaneers (5% of Markets). We will set you up for these early afternoon games with brief "capsules".
Two longtime AFC North enemies butt heads one more time as Jameis Winston and the Cleveland Browns (3-9) visit Minkah Fitzpatrick and the current AFC North leader Pittsburgh Steelers (9-3) on Sunday, December 8 at 1:00 PM ET on CBS. Following a postseason appearance in 2023, the Browns regressed hard in 2024, coming into Sunday's Week 14 game with an abysmal 3-9 record and basically eliminated from the playoff picture. The Browns face a disadvantage of playing in a short week, as the team strives to put Monday's 41-32 loss to the Broncos behind them and potentially shock the Steelers again. The Steelers have picked up victories in six of their last seven games, with last Sunday's 44-38 win over the Bengals being the most recent game. The Steelers are sitting pretty with the #3 seed in the AFC as things currently stand, but they want a much higher seed than that. Back in Week 12 on a snowy Thursday night in Cleveland, the Browns upset the Steelers 24-19 on "Thursday Night Football" as Browns DE (and reigning Defensive Player of the Year) Myles Garrett got three sacks on the night and Browns RB Nick Chubb put up a game-winning tuddy with under a minute remaining. The Steelers try to get some sweet revenge in this divisional duel. π Sunday's Browns-Steelers game on CBS will be announced by CBS's top NFL team - play-by-play commentator Jim Nantz, analyst and former NFL quarterback Tony Romo and sideline reporter Tracy Wolfson.
Sauce Gardner and the New York Jets (3-9) attempt to place a major dent in the playoff hopes for Jaylen Waddle and the Miami Dolphins (5-7) during this AFC East confrontation on Sunday, December 8 at 1:00 PM ET on CBS. Following an encouraging 2-1 start, the wheels have fallen off the bus as the Jets have dropped eight of their last nine games. Last week, the Jets were defeated 26-21 by the Seahawks at MetLife Stadium. With a loss this week, the Jets are officially eliminated from postseason contention. As for the Dolphins, they have at least some hope for the playoffs after a poor 2-6 start. On Thanksgiving night, the Dolphins were conquered by the Packers 30-17. The Dolphins have had ten days to prepare for this AFC East game. Miami currently trails Denver by two and a half games for the seventh and final playoff spot. The Dolphins have NO margin for error the rest of the way as they try to stay in the playoff hunt. Jets QB Aaron Rodgers threw for 185 yards & tossed two touchdown passes vs. the Seahawks last week. In last Sunday's loss to Seattle, Jets WR Garrett Wilson caught five catches for 41 yards. Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa completed a career high 37 of 46 pass attempts for season-best 365 yards with 2 TD, 0 INT's & 114.2 rating last week vs. the Packers. Dolphins LB Jordyn Brooks looks to record his fifth straight game at least nine tackles during game action. πSunday's Jets-Dolphins game will be televised on CBS, with play-by-play announcer Kevin Harlan, analyst and former NFL quarterback Trent Green and sideline reporter Melanie Collins teaming up for the presentation.
A couple of AFC South teams share the Nissan Stadium field this weekend as Darnell Savage and the Jacksonville Jaguars (2-10) take on Calvin Ridley and the Tennessee Titans (3-9) on Sunday, December 8 at 1:00 PM ET on CBS. π Sunday's Jaguars-Titans matchup will be on CBS, as play-by-play commentator Andrew Catalon joins analyst and Super Bowl champion defensive back Jason McCourty, analyst and three-time Pro Bowl running back Tiki Barber and reporter AJ Ross for game commentary duties.
A re-match of Super Bowl XXXVII takes place at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, as Alexander Mattison and the struggling Las Vegas Raiders (2-10) provide the opposition for Baker Mayfield and the motivated Tampa Bay Buccaneers (6-6), aspiring for a potential top spot in the NFC South pending Tampa Bay's game vs. the Raiders and the Falcons-Vikings game, on Sunday, December 8 at 1:00 PM ET on CBS. The Raiders walk into Week 14 play with a dreadful 2-10 record and are already eliminated from postseason contention. For the third straight season, the Raiders will miss the postseason as the first full season of the Antonio Pierce experiment has a disastrous one. On Black Friday, the Raiders fell short in a gut-wrenching 19-17 loss to the Chiefs. Buccaneers S Antoine Winfield Jr. and his team are hunting a third straight win, as Tampa Bay tries to climb above .500 with a victory this week. Last week, the Buccaneers were overtime winners 26-23 against the Panthers on the road. Sunday's game is essential for Tampa Bay to win, as they need a victory to keep pace for the division and a wild card spot (if the NFC South doesn't bounce their way). Buccaneers WR Mike Evans had himself a good day at the office vs. the Panthers last week, inhaling eight balls for 118 yards & 7th receiving touchdown of the season. Buccaneers NT Vita Vea has had a huge 2024, as he has totaled a career-high nine tackles for loss so far. π Sunday's Raiders-Buccaneers clash will be televised on CBS with Spero Dedes (play-by-play) and former NFL safety Adam Archuleta (analyst) following the action in the booth. Reporter Aditi Kinkhabwala contributes to the broadcast from field level.
In the event that you will be getting a late afternoon matchup as the one CBS game for the weekend, the broadcast will then begin at 4:05 PM ET (kickoff time; the broadcast will begin at 4:00 PM ET). There is one game that CBS will be televising in the late afternoon window as DK Metcalf and the Seattle Seahawks (7-5) visit Marvin Harrison Jr. and the Arizona Cardinals (6-6) in a crucial NFC West duel. More information regarding the Seahawks-Cardinals coming up in just a moment.
For the second time in three weeks, Geno Smith and the Seattle Seahawks (7-5) matched up with Budda Baker and the Arizona Cardinals (6-6) on Sunday, December 8 at 4:05 PM ET on CBS. The Seahawks have won three straight games to get into the top spot in the NFC West division, including a 26-21 win over the Jets last week. The Cardinals are experiencing a mini stumble following their Week 11 bye, as the team has lost two straight games after the week off, including last week's 23-22 heartbreaking loss to the Vikings. In Week 12, the Seahawks won against the Cardinals 16-6, as Seahawks DE Leonard Williams put up 2.5 sacks and Seahawks S Coby Bryant returned an interception 69 yards for a Seahawks score. And now, the Cardinals look for revenge in the second and final regular season meeting between these divisional foes. The Seahawks have the #3 seed in the NFC while the Cardinals sit on the outside looking in as far as the NFC playoff picture is concerned (needless to say, Sunday's game will contribute greatly towards the potential postseason dreams for both squads). π Sunday's Seahawks-Cardinals game will be televised by CBS, with the broadcast team of Ian Eagle (play-by-play), Charles Davis (analyst) & Evan Washburn (reporter) calling the action.
