Highlights of the Week #13 NFL on FOX: Field Pass
- There's plenty of room for a Thanksgiving feast and some leftovers with two airings of the NFL on FOX this week - Giants vs. Cowboys on Thanksgiving Day (Thursday, November 28) & a regional afternoon of Week 13 coverage on Sunday, December 1. Six total games on FOX's slate this week (sans Giants-Cowboys on Thanksgiving), including Cardinals-Vikings (1:00 PM ET), Seahawks-Jets (1:00 PM ET), Texans-Jaguars (1:00 PM ET), Rams-Saints (4:05 PM ET), Buccaneers-Panthers (4:05 PM ET) on Sunday.
- Week 13 brings us teams battling for the NFC West (Cardinals, Seahawks & Rams), trying to get back on track (Texans), looking for back-to-back victories (Buccaneers) & attempting to spoil the Thanksgiving/postseason vibes (Jets, Saints, Panthers & Jaguars).
- A great John Madden quote ahead of Thursday's third annual "John Madden Thanksgiving" celebration (Giants vs. Cowboys on FOX): "There's just certain things that go together. The turkey, the family, the tradition, football, and we have it all today."
- The "FOX NFL Sunday" crew (Curt Menefee, Terry Bradshaw, Howie Long, Michael Strahan, Jimmy Johnson [Thursday], Rob Gronkowski [Sunday], Jay Glazer) working double time this week, with Thursday's show at 4:00 PM ET and Sunday's show at the traditional 12:00 PM ET timeslot.
- Two NFC contenders link up in the Twin Cities as Kyler Murray and the Arizona Cardinals (6-5) take on Jordan Addison and scorching hot Minnesota Vikings (9-2) on Sunday, December 1 at 1:00 PM ET on FOX.
🦃 Happy Thanksgiving, everybody! I hope all of you enjoy this holiday with the people that are closest to you (family, friends, etc.). Hopefully, the Turkey, stuffing, macaroni and cheese, cranberry sauce, the ham, and all of your Thanksgiving meal is delicious and enjoyable. Plus, treat yourself nice to a holiday gift or two on Black Friday (since plenty of deals will be taking place around that time).
In the short term, as we turn our attention back to football, it's now time for the Week 13 edition of the NFL on FOX: Field Pass. With Thanksgiving now upon us, the playoff picture starts to come into focus as the final six weeks of this 2024 NFL Season are set to unfold in front of our very eyes. Time flies!
FOX has six games during this Thanksgiving week, combining Thursday's Thanksgiving Giants-Cowboys game and Sunday's games. On Thanksgiving Day (Thursday, November 28), Malik Nabers and the struggling New York Giants (2-9) visit Micah Parsons and the Dallas Cowboys (4-7) in a classic NFC East rivalry game at 4:30 PM (ET) on FOX.
Moving forward to Sunday (December 1), FOX has the singleheader with five games on the docket. At 1:00 PM ET, three games are scheduled: Cardinals at Vikings, Seahawks at Jets & Texans at Jaguars. At 4:05 PM ET, two games are scheduled: Rams at Saints and Buccaneers at Panthers.
In this week's NFL on FOX: Field Pass, everything regarding Thanksgiving Day and Sunday's games is set to be discussed and analyzed in an article format. Several key elements, including the broadcast schedule, announcer assignments and distribution will be featured heavily. This article is your go-to-guide for the week ahead. Yessir!
To get us going, let's dive into Thursday's (Thursday, November 28) Thanksgiving Day matchup. Pregame coverage of Giants vs. Cowboys begins at 4:00 PM ET on FOX, as co-hosts Curt Menefee and Terry Bradshaw alongside Hall of Famers Howie Long, Michael Strahan & Jimmy Johnson with insider Jay Glazer set the table for this NFC East battle. Of course, FOX's presentation of Giants vs. Cowboys on Thanksgiving Day is during the third annual "John Madden Thanksgiving" celebration, as we honor the legendary coach and commentator. Rest in Peace, Coach Madden.
At 4:30 PM ET on FOX, Isaiah Simmons and the New York Giants (2-9) visit Micah Parsons and the Dallas Cowboys (4-7) for this Thanksgiving game. The Giants are all but eliminated from postseason contention in 2024. The Cowboys are barely hanging on and can't afford any more slip ups if they want to keep their slim playoff hopes alive. The Giants enter Thanksgiving on a six-game losing streak, losing 30-7 to the Buccaneers last week. The Cowboys arrive at Turkey Day in a good mood, following a crazy 34-26 win over the Commanders to halt a five-game losing streak. The Giants are playing on Thanksgiving Day for the 17th time (7-6-3), while the Cowboys make their 57th Thanksgiving Day appearance (33-22-1). Giants RB Tyrone Tracy Jr. compiled 70 scrimmage yards (42 rush, 28 rec.) in Week 12 vs. the Buccaneers. Giants DL Dexter Lawrence had his fifth career forced fumble vs. the Buccaneers last week. Cowboys LB Micah Parsons has picked up a sack in each of his first three Thanksgiving games and can become the fifth player since 1982 with a sack in four straight Thanksgiving contests, joining Greg Ellis (2004-08), Ed "Too Tall" Jones (1982-85), Tony Tolbert (1990-93) & Pro Football Hall of Famer Randy White (1982-85). Cowboys WR CeeDee Lamb had his 12th career game with 10+ receptions last week vs. the Commanders. 🎙 For the first time, play-by-play commentator Kevin Burkhardt and analyst and seven-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady share a booth on Thanksgiving, joined by reporters Erin Andrews and Tom Rinaldi.
Once the Giants vs. Cowboys game wraps up, stay tuned as Curt Menefee, Terry Bradshaw, Howie Long, Michael Strahan, Jimmy Johnson & Jay Glazer present postgame coverage, starting at 7:30 PM ET on FOX.
Live coverage of Thanksgiving weekend football on FOX continues on Sunday (December 1), with regional coverage of games all throughout the afternoon.
Sunday's Week 13 regional coverage on FOX commences at 11:00 AM ET with FOX NFL Kickoff presented by Little Casears. Emanating from Los Angeles, Charissa Thompson hosts alongside a group of respected and esteemed analysts, including Hall of Famer Charles Woodson, four-time Pro Bowler Michael Vick & three-time Super Bowl champion Julian Edelman. Also, insider Peter Schrager updates viewers throughout the show on topical matters surrounding the National Football League. To top it off, Colin Cowherd and Cooper Manning contribute packaged segments. "FOX NFL Kickoff" offers a first preview at Sunday's game slate. The show will have exclusive interviews with NFL newsmakers, live updates from the sites of the games, predictions and opinion.
Pregame coverage on Sunday resumes at 12:00 PM ET on FOX with FOX NFL Sunday presented by GMC. For the second time this week, Curt Menefee, Terry Bradshaw, Howie Long, Michael Strahan & Jay Glazer appear to spearhead a pregame program. Four-time Super Bowl champion Rob Gronkowski will sub in for Jimmy Johnson during Sunday's studio programming. "FOX NFL Sunday" features the latest news and information from around the NFL, predictions, interviews with key NFL newsmakers, and more.
FOX takes the field for the early game kickoffs, beginning at 1:00 PM ET, for audiences set to receive an early game as their only game of the day. FOX has a three-game lineup at 1:00 PM ET this week, with games including: Cardinals at Vikings (53% of Markets), Seahawks at Jets (12% of Markets) & Texans at Jaguars (4% of Markets). I will describe these games briefly over the following paragraphs in order to serve you a course of football knowledge.
Two NFC contenders meet in Week 13 as Sean Murphy-Bunting and the Arizona Cardinals (6-5) play Sam Darnold and the blazing hot Minnesota Vikings (9-2) on Sunday, December 1 at 1:00 PM ET on FOX. We have a case here of two teams bouncing back following a season without playoffs in 2023 as both the Cardinals and Vikings support winning records here in Week 13. Following a recent four-game winning streak, the Cardinals dropped a game for the first time in quite some time last week, losing 16-6 vs. the Seahawks. The Vikings are starting to round into form at the right time, as the team has won four straight games, including a 30-27 OT victory over the Bears last week. The Cardinals are threatening for a postseason berth, as they trail the Commanders (7-5) for the seventh and final playoff spot in the NFC entering Week 13. The Vikings have the #5 seed in the NFC playoff bracket at the moment. Cardinals TE Trey McBride ranks second among tight ends in receiving yards (685) and third in receptions (61) this season and can join Chiefs TE Travis Kelce (10 straight road games from 2019-20) as the only tight ends in NFL history with five-or-more receptions in 10 consecutive road games. Vikings WR Justin Jefferson ranks second in the NFL with 939 receiving yards in 2024 and can become fourth player in NFL history with at least 1,000 receiving yards in each of his first five career seasons, joining Pro Hall of Famer Randy Moss, Mike Evans, A.J. Green. 🎙 Joe Davis calls the play-by-play for Sunday's Cardinals-Vikings game on FOX, with analyst and three-time Pro Bowl tight end Greg Olsen and reporter Pam Oliver.
A pair of AFC South clubs share a football field together on this Thanksgiving weekend as Tank Dell and his Houston Texans (7-5) square off against Darnell Savage Jr. and the Jacksonville Jaguars (2-9) on Sunday, December 1 at 1:00 PM ET on FOX. The Texans are currently the #4 seed in the AFC, despite last week's SHOCKING 32-27 loss to the Titans. The Texans are currently in a puzzling stretch, dropping four of their previous six games (with wins over the Colts in Week 8 & Cowboys in Week 11). The Texans can't afford to mess around and drop a game they could use for playoff/division positioning. In the wake of a ugly 52-6 loss to the Lions in Week 11, the Jaguars enjoyed their bye last week (and they definitely needed it). The Jaguars are taking on the role of spoiler, as their season is dead in the water. Texans WR Nico Collins had 5 catches for 92 yards and a touchdown vs. the Titans in Week 12. Texans DE Danielle Hunter finished last week's game vs. Tennessee with 7 combined tackles & five tackles for loss. Jaguars WR Brian Thomas Jr. snagged five passes for a team-high 82 yards in Week 11 vs. the Lions. Jaguars LB Devin Lloyd has 5+ tackles in 6 of past 7. 🎙 Sunday's Texans-Jaguars game will be televised on FOX, with play-by-play commentator Kevin Kugler, analyst and three-time Super Bowl champion Daryl "Moose" Johnston & sideline reporter Laura Okmin calling the action.
Leonard Williams and the Seattle Seahawks (6-5), tied for first place in the NFC West, travel cross country to match up with Davante Adams and the New York Jets (3-8) on Sunday, December 1 at 1:00 PM ET on FOX. The Seahawks are turning a corner following their Week 10 bye, beating the 49ers 20-17 in Week 11 & the Cardinals 16-6 in Week 12, acquiring two key divisional wins in a tight division race. The Jets have had another season to forget, as the Jets lost two straight games entering their Week 11 bye - a 31-6 loss to the Cardinals in Week 10 & a 28-27 loss to the Colts in Week 11. As Week 13 begins, the Seahawks have the #3 seed in the NFC (thanks to tiebreakers). Seahawks HC Mike Macdonald is the only first time head coach and one of four coaches in his first season with a franchise - Raheem Morris (Falcons), Jim Harbaugh (Chargers) & Dan Quinn (Commanders) - to have a winning record in 2024. Seahawks WR DK Metcalf needs just four more catches for sixth straight 50+ catch season. Jets DL Quinnen Williams has six sacks so far in 2024. Jets RB Breece Hall has nine games this year with at least 80+ scrimmage yards (the most in the NFL). 🎙 Sunday's Seahawks-Jets broadcast is set to be carried by FOX, as play-by-play commentator Adam Amin teams up with analyst and former Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez and reporter Kristina Pink for coverage of the game.
In the case of FOX markets/stations getting a late game instead on Sunday, coverage begins at 4:00 PM ET with a kickoff time of 4:05 PM ET. Two games are set to be regionalized in the 4:05 PM ET window on FOX this Sunday: Rams at Saints (19% of Markets) & Buccaneers at Panthers (12% of Markets). Additional details about Rams-Saints and Buccaneers-Panthers will be discussed in just a moment.
Puka Nacua and the Los Angeles Rams (5-6) search for a very important win to begin the month of December in New Orleans against Demario Davis (4-7) and the New Orleans Saints on Sunday, December 1 at 4:05 PM ET on FOX. Prior to last Sunday's 37-20 loss to the Eagles on "Sunday Night Football", the Rams produced wins in four of five games. Now, the Rams need to hit reset as the calendar month of December opens up in hostile territory as they face a dangerous Saints squad at the Casears Superdome. The Saints, on the other hand, have found recent success following a seven-game losing streak earlier this year. The Saints beat the Falcons 20-17 in Week 10 & bested the Browns 35-14 in Week 11, prior to the team's Week 12 bye. As of now, both teams are currently on the outside looking in, with the Rams having better chances to get a playoff spot (the Saints' playoff chances are pretty slim, barring a miracle). Rams WR Puka Nacua led the team with nine catches & 117 yards in Week 12 vs. the Eagles. Rams LB Christian Rozeboom recorded a single-game career high 12 tackles vs. the Eagles (7 tackles, 5 assisted). Saints LB Demario Davis had a field day vs. the Browns back in Week 11, totaling 13 tackles during the Saints' win. Newly acquired Saints WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling made an impact on his new team, grabbing a touchdown reception vs. the Browns in Week 11. 🎙 Longtime NFL on FOX play-by-play announcer Kenny Albert and analyst, Super Bowl champion, and former Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma serve as the commentary duo for Sunday's Rams-Saints game. Reporter Megan Olivi joins the duo to cover the sidelines.
A divisional duel from the NFC South is the big story as Baker Mayfield and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (5-6) travel to Charlotte for a meeting with Chuba Hubbard and the Carolina Panthers (3-8) on Sunday, December 1 at 4:05 PM ET on FOX. In the aftermath of last week's 30-7 blowout win over the Giants, the Buccaneers on the verge now of getting back to .500 on the season (6-6). And obviously, this is a must-win for Tampa Bay on multiple fronts, as they trail Washington by a game and a half for the final NFC Wild Card spot. As far as the division is concerned, Tampa Bay is still a player in the NFC South race, as they trail the Falcons by one game as Week 13 starts up (however, Atlanta has a head-to-head tiebreaker over Tampa Bay). The Panthers' season has been a complete disappointment as the team sits with an abysmal 3-8 record (and pretty much OUT of the playoff picture). To their credit, they played a competitive game against the defending two-time Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs last week, losing a heartbreaker 30-27 as time expired. Since Buccaneers QB Baker Mayfield joined the Buccaneers in 2023, he leads the league in passing touchdowns (52). The Buccaneers' defense has been responsible for 30 sacks since Week 4, the second most in the league in that span, only trailing the Broncos (33 sacks). Panthers QB Bryce Young passed for a season-high 263 yards & TD vs. 0 INT's for a season-high 92.9 rating in Week 12 vs. the Chiefs. Panthers CB Jaycee Horn had his first-ever career sack last week vs. the Chiefs. 🎙 Sunday's Buccaneers-Panthers battle will be seen nationally on FOX, with the broadcast team of Chris Myers (play-by-play), three-time Super Bowl champion Mark Schlereth (analyst) & Jen Hale (reporter) set to call the action on the field.
