Top things to know about the 2024 WNBA Finals presented by YouTube TV:
- The New York Liberty, one of the league's original eight teams, looks to capture the first championship in franchise history. The Liberty, who are appearing in their second straight WNBA Finals (after losing to the Las Vegas Aces in 2023), are in the WNBA Finals for the 6th time.
- The Minnesota Lynx ended a seven-year WNBA Finals drought, as they qualified for the WNBA Finals for the first time since 2017. This is the Lynx's 7th WNBA Finals appearance. Minnesota has four championships, tied with the Seattle Storm and the Houston Comets for the most in WNBA history.
- This WNBA Finals series features two of the winningest coaches in WNBA history. Plus, both of the head coaches in these WNBA Finals became head coaches back in 2010. New York Liberty head coach Sandy Brondello got her first ever head coaching WNBA job with the San Antonio Silver Stars (now the Las Vegas Aces). In 2014, Brondello led the Phoenix Mercury to a WNBA championship. Brondello is currently in her third season as the Liberty's head coach. Cheryl Reeve, the Lynx's head coach since the 2010 season, has led the Lynx to all four WNBA titles the team has earned up to this point, which ties her with Van Chancellor for the most WNBA championships by a head coach.
- Both teams have significant Finals experience on their roster. The Liberty have three players that have participated in multiple WNBA Finals - Jonquel Jones (13 games), Breanna Stewart (10 games) & Courtney Vandersloot (11 games), while the Lynx have two players that qualify for this - Natisha Hiedeman (9 games) & Courtney Williams (9 games).
- Both teams are stacked with star talent! The Liberty have two former MVP's on the team - Breanna Stewart (2018 and 2023) & Jonquel Jones (2021). The Lynx are led by Naphessa Collier, the 2024 Kia WNBA Defensive Player of the Year and the runner-up to the Las Vegas Aces' A'ja Wilson as the 2024 Kia WNBA MVP.
