Hello again, folks! I hope you had a great summer 🌞 and enjoying this "unofficial end of the summer", better known as Labor Day Weekend. Week 1 is now officially here, which means it's now time for the season premiere of the NFL on FOX broadcast & market listings report! I started doing this last season, and apparently, you guys loved ❤ it very much. So, I am bringing it back for the 2024 season.
With that introduction officially out of the way, let's get started with the Week 1 NFL on FOX schedule and distribution breakdown article for the 2024 season.
The NFL on FOX begins their 11th Super Bowl season and their 31st season of NFL coverage overall this Sunday, September 8, with a doubleheader. There are six games on FOX's schedule this week -- Steelers vs. Falcons, Titans vs. Bears, Vikings vs. Giants, Panthers vs. Saints, Cowboys vs. Browns and Commanders vs. Buccaneers. Obviously, the big headline this week is the broadcasting debut of Tom Brady, the seven-time Super Bowl champion quarterback and future Hall of Famer. Brady will make his FOX debut working the Cowboys-Browns game (4:25 PM ET) with Kevin Burkhardt, Erin Andrews & Tom Rinaldi.
FOX begins their Week 1 coverage with two hours of pregame programming, starting at 11:00 AM (ET). First up, you have FOX NFL Kickoff at 11:00 AM (ET), with host Charissa Thompson, Hall of Famer Charles Woodson, three-time Super Bowl champion Julian Edelman, four-time Pro Bowler Michael Vick, insider Peter Schrager, contributor Cooper Manning and contributor Colin Cowherd. This is the season debut for that program.
Then, pregame coverage continues at 12:00 PM (ET), with the advent of the 31st season for the iconic, legendary pregame show FOX NFL Sunday. Once again, Curt Menefee and Hall of Famer Terry Bradshaw co-host the show, with Hall of Famers Jimmy Johnson, Michael Strahan and Howie Long also joining the show as analysts. Jay Glazer, who celebrates his 20th year with FOX Sports (2004-present), returns as the insider to provide up-to-the-minute information before the kickoffs.
The doubleheader begins at 1:00 PM (ET), with the early slate of games. The four-game 1:00 PM (ET) slate on FOX include Steelers-Falcons, Vikings-Giants, Panthers-Saints & Titans-Bears. A brief summary of each matchup can be found below.
Russell Wilson, a nine-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl XLVIII champion, gets another chance to be a starter in the NFL as he leads his Pittsburgh Steelers into Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta to take on newly acquired pass rusher Matt Judon and the Atlanta Falcons in a interconference matchup at 1:00 PM (ET) on FOX. 🎙 Joe Davis (play-by-play), three-time Pro Bowler Greg Olsen (analyst) & long-standing FOX reporter Pam Oliver (reporter) call the season opening matchup between Pittsburgh and Atlanta.
Soldier Field in Chicago is the site where #1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, Caleb Williams (a rookie from USC and a Heisman Trophy winner in 2022), makes his long-awaited NFL debut as the Chicago Bears host new Titans cornerback L'Jarius Sneed and the Tennessee Titans in Week #1 at 1:00 PM (ET) on FOX. 🎙 Adam Amin starts his fifth season with FOX Sports, working with former NFL quarterback Mark Sanchez for the very first time. Kristina Pink, who has been with FOX for over a decade as a reporter, works the sidelines as the reporter.
Two teams looking to move on from disappointing 2023 campaigns clash to welcome 2024 in at 1:00 PM (ET) on FOX from MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Superstar Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson, who has at least 1,000 receiving yards in each of his first four seasons, begins his fifth season as the Minnesota Vikings take on the formidable linebacker Kayvon Thibodeaux and the New York Giants. 🎙 Kenny Albert, the last remaining original NFL on FOX commentator from the network's first season of NFL football in 1994, starts his 31st (!!) season behind the mic, paired with Super Bowl champion and former NFL linebacker Jonathan Vilma for the fifth straight season. Reporter Megan Olivi gets a promotion of sorts, as she will be covering the NFL on a full-time basis for the very first time, after several years of working select games for FOX.
Bryce Young and the Carolina Panthers start the 2024 season at the Casears Superdome (the site of Super Bowl LIX) with a Week #1 battle with Demario Davis and the New Orleans Saints as two NFC South teams get together at 1:00 PM (ET) on FOX. Unfortunately, both teams sat out the 2023 postseason and will look to make into the playoff field in 2024. 🎙 Veteran play-by-play announcer Chris Myers & three-time Super Bowl champion and analyst Mark Schlereth narrate and report the action from New Orleans, with veteran reporter Jennifer Hale contributing to the broadcast from field level.
The Week 1 FOX doubleheader continues with the first edition of America's Game of the Week at 4:25 PM (ET), with a pair of games in that slot - Cowboys-Browns and Commanders-Buccaneers. I will give you some key points in both matchups in the following paragraphs.
Most of the nation will see Tom Brady make his highly anticipated FOX Sports analyst debut as Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, Micah Parsons and the defending NFC East champions Dallas Cowboys visit reigning Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett, Amari Cooper, Juan Thornhill and the Cleveland Browns at 4:25 PM (ET) on FOX. Both teams were postseason participants last season. 🎙 Brady will join seasoned play-by-play commentator Kevin Burkhardt, alongside experienced reporters Tom Rinaldi & Erin Andrews for the broadcast, as FOX's lead/Super Bowl broadcast team begins their 2024 campaign in grand fashion.
For those of you not getting Cowboys-Browns in the doubleheader window, FOX will take you to the Sunshine State of Florida at 4:25 PM (ET) as the Washington Commanders travel south to play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the regular season opener for both teams. Of course, the Commanders have a few big headlines to start 2024: Dan Quinn takes over for Ron Rivera at head coach; and Jayden Daniels, the 2023 Heisman Trophy winner who split his college time between Arizona State and LSU, takes the starting QB gig in Washington as a rookie. As for the Buccaneers, Baker Mayfield, Antoine Winfield Jr., and crew look to repeat as NFC South champions following a 9-8 season in 2023 and a Divisional Round appearance. 🎙 Play-by-play commentator Kevin Kugler joins analyst and three-time Super Bowl champion Daryl "Moose" Johnston and reporter Laura Okmin for the game broadcast.
Following America's Game of the Week, FOX will have a half-hour postgame show called "The OT", beginning at 7:30 PM (ET). Curt Menefee, Terry Bradshaw, Michael Strahan, Howie Long, Jimmy Johnson & Jay Glazer will host the program to put a bow on the Week 1 Sunday afternoon slate.
