With the 2024 MLB ⚾ regular season now less than three months away from beginning, ESPN announced on Wednesday the first wave of game selections for the 2024 season, via the first few Sunday Night Baseball games & the International slate of games.

Keep in mind that Sunday Night Baseball is ESPN's live and exclusive Sunday night game of the week and features the league's top sluggers and notable faces. Sunday Night Baseball enters the historic 35th season during the 2024 MLB season, alongside ESPN's MLB coverage as a whole.

    1. @Mark T. Thanks Mark. By the way, SD/LAD is starting a rain delay due to inclement weather in the Los Angeles area. Saw a tarp on the field at Dodger Stadium once the Lakers-Pelicans game ended.

  4. What would they do with the Giants-Phillies game if it were to be postponed? There's a very good chance of rain on Sunday night.

    1. @Mark T. Yeah, man, you're right about the weather forecast. If the Giants-Phillies game on Sunday night is postponed, then ESPN will probably have to find some other programming, like a night of 30 for 30 reruns. By the way, if the SF/PHI game is postponed, ESPN is completely screwed. I looked at the program guide, and ESPN2, ESPNU, and ESPNews have no live sporting events whatsoever that could be moved up to ESPN if the Giants/Phillies can't go ahead as scheduled on Sunday Night.

  5. Interesting choice to put a game on Wednesday night.

    1. @Mark T. Mark, the reason why ESPN is airing a game on Wednesday night rather than Sunday that week is because ESPN doesn't do Sunday Night Baseball the week before the All-Star Game. And since the All-Star Game is slated for Tuesday, July 16 in Arlington, ESPN had to find a other window to air the Sunday Night Baseball game for that week instead.

  6. Why are they putting a game on Monday night?

    1. @Mark T. Mark, the reason why that ESPN is placing a game on a Monday night (TEX/BOS on 8/12) is because ESPN gets five non-Sunday Night Baseball windows every season as part of the contract that ESPN has with MLB. So, ESPN elected to use one of these windows here.

  7. Do you know what the game will be for Sunday, September 8th? I'm sort of surprised that it hasn't been finalized yet since it's less than two weeks until then.

I thought it would be Yankees-Cubs since that's been a common ESPN selection when the two teams have played at Wrigley (2003, 2011, 2017) but the only roadblock might be travel. The Cubs have to travel to Los Angeles and the Yankees return home for games on Monday.

What do you think the game for that Sunday will be?

    1. @Atsushi Idobe It's going to be Diamondbacks-Astros for the game on Sunday, September 8. So no, Yankees-Cubs isn't the game that was ultimately selected.

  8. I'll really think that Philadelphia Phillies and New York Mets should be on ESPN Sunday Night Baseball Because of Possible MLB Playoff Implications Games and Hopefully ESPN get this one Right as Well.
