  • TNT to begin live game coverage of the 2023-2024 NBA season on Opening Night with a blockbuster doubleheader - Defending NBA champion Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets to host NBA All-Time scoring leader LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers followed by Stephen Curry's Warriors hosting Kevin Durant's Suns on Tuesday, October 24.
  • TNT's 65-game schedule - the company's 40th anniversary season of providing NBA coverage - highlighted by inaugural In-Season Tournament, MLK Day, NBA Rivals Week & Marquee Doubleheaders featuring big names
The NBA on TNT will feature a 65-game schedule during the upcoming 2023-24 NBA regular season, beginning with a marquee Opening Night doubleheader featuring the defending NBA champion Denver Nuggets and Nikola Jokic hosting the Los Angeles Lakers and LeBron James on Tuesday, October 24 at 7:30 PM (ET). The night's second game will feature a pair of somewhat new-look Western Conference teams with stars making their individual team debuts - the Golden State Warriors with Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green and Chris Paul welcoming the Phoenix Suns led by Kevin Durant, Bradley Beal and Devin Booker to San Francisco at 10:00 PM (ET).

This year's Opening Night doubleheader on TNT signals the beginning of the 40th year of Turner's (Warner Bros. Discovery) association with the NBA. This season is the 28th straight season that TNT has hosted Opening Night game action.

2023 Kia NBA Tip-Off Opening Week coverage continues later that week on TNT. On Thursday, October 26, Giannis Antetokoumpo and the Milwaukee Bucks play host to last season's Kia NBA MVP Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers at 7:30 PM (ET). Following the Philadelphia at Milwaukee game, Durant leads his Suns into battle with James and the Lakers at 10:00 PM (ET).

The network's second week of coverage showcases the San Antonio Spurs and 2023 NBA Draft top pick Victor Wembanyama visiting the Suns and Deandre Ayton on Tuesday, October 31 at 10:00 PM (ET). Earlier in the evening, Jalen Brunson and the New York Knicks travel to Cleveland to square off with Darius Garland and the Cleveland Cavaliers at 7:30 PM (ET).

During the month of November, TNT will air several games from the Group Play stage during the NBA's first-ever In-Season Tournament. The first of three straight weeks of Group Play doubleheaders will feature the Spurs and Wembanyama visiting the Oklahoma City Thunder and Shai Gilegous-Alexander on Tuesday, November 14 at 7:30 PM (ET) followed by Jamal Murray and the Nuggets battling Paul George and the Los Angeles Clippers at 10:00 PM (ET).

A star-studded Tuesday night doubleheader takes place on Tuesday, December 12, featuring the likes of Luka Doncic, James, Durant and Curry. The Lakers visit the Mavericks at 7:30 PM (ET) to kick off the doubleheader, then the Warriors at Suns game serves as the nightcap at 10:00 PM (ET).

TNT returns to the traditional Thursday night slot following the New Year on Thursday, January 4, with the Bucks and Antetokoumpo visiting the Spurs and Wembanyama at 7:30 PM (ET), followed by the Warriors and Curry hosting Jokic and the Nuggets at 10:00 PM (ET).

TNT's annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day coverage returns on Monday, January 15. First up, Trae Young and the Atlanta Hawks host Wembanyama and the Spurs at 3:30 PM (ET). Then, Ja Morant (who will be back following his 25-game suspension to begin the season) and the Memphis Grizzlies play Klay Thompson and the Warriors in a Western Conference duel at 6:00 PM (ET).

A meeting of the last two Kia NBA MVP's will headline TNT's first NBA on TNT Tuesday doubleheader of the season with the 76ers and Embiid hosting Jokic and the Nuggets on Tuesday, January 16 at 7:30 PM (ET) followed by Chet Holmgren and the Oklahoma City Thunder visiting Kawhi Leonard and the Clippers at 10:00 PM (ET). These telecasts will be denoted in gold.

The "NBA Rivals Week" returns for the second straight season with a pair of intracity games on Tuesday, January 23 - Brunson and the Knicks visit Mikal Bridges and the Brooklyn Nets at 7:30 PM (ET) followed by the "Battle for Los Angeles" between the Lakers and Clippers at 10:00 PM (ET).

A pair of seven-game playoff series from last year highlight "NBA Rivals Week" on Thursday, January 25. TNT's live coverage will tip off from Miami as Jayson Tatum and the Boston Celtics do battle with Jimmy Butler and the Miami Heat in a re-match of last season's Eastern Conference Finals (which Miami won) at 7:30 PM (ET). This game will be followed by the battle for Northern California - Malik Monk and the Sacramento Kings visiting Draymond Green and the Warriors - at 10:00 PM (ET). Golden State-Sacramento is a re-match of the exciting and riveting opening first round series in the West last year (Golden State got the upper hand in that series).

A big-time doubleheader on Thursday, February 8, opens up with Brunson and the Knicks facing off with Doncic and the Mavericks (Brunson's former team) at 7:30 PM (ET) followed by the Lakers and Anthony Davis hosting Jokic and the Nuggets at 10:00 PM (ET).

Leading into TNT's coverage of the 2024 NBA All-Star Weekend from Indianapolis, one game will be on the network on Thursday, February 15, as Khris Middleton and the Bucks battle Desmond Bane and the Grizzlies at 8:30 PM (ET).

Several of the league's top scoring duos are scheduled to take the court on Thursday, February 22, with the Mavericks - Doncic and Kyrie Irving - hosting the Suns - Durant, Booker & Beal - at 7:30 PM (ET) followed by the Warriors - Curry, Thompson & Paul - hosting the Lakers - Davis & James - at 10:00 PM (ET).

A re-match of last season's Eastern Conference Semifinals between Philadelphia and Boston serves as the opening game of TNT's doubleheader on Tuesday, February 27 at 7:30 PM (ET) followed by the Heat and Butler visiting the  Portland Trail Blazers and Anfernee Simons at 10:00 PM (ET).

A rare leap day doubleheader on TNT will start in New York City as Curry and the Warriors make their annual visit to Madison Square Garden for a showdown with Julius Randle and the Knicks on Thursday, February 29 at 7:30 PM (ET) followed by a 2023 NBA Finals re-match between the Heat and Nuggets at 10:00 PM (ET).

Two of the Western Conference's leading contenders square off on the network on Tuesday, March 5, with the Nuggets and Murray hosting Booker and the Suns at 10:00 PM (ET). Earlier in the night, Young and the Hawks take on Randle and the Knicks at 7:30 PM (ET).

2023 NBA All-Star team captains will meet up in Milwaukee as James and the Lakers visit Antetokounmpo and the Bucks on Tuesday, March 26 at 7:30 PM (ET). The night's second game takes place in Sacramento as De'Aaron Fox and the Kings host Doncic and the Mavericks at 10:00 PM (ET)

The final stretch of regular season play will highlight Western Conference teams. On Tuesday, April 2, TNT will be your home for a Western Conference doubleheader. To begin, Curry and the Warriors are in Dallas for a meeting with Doncic and the Mavericks at 7:30 PM (ET). The doubleheader then moves to Sacramento as Fox and the Kings play host to George and the Clippers.

Conference nemesis will meet on the final Tuesday night of the regular season on Tuesday, April 9, when Tatum and the Celtics take on Antetokoumnpo and the Bucks at 7:30 PM (ET). Later on, Paul and the Warriors visit the Lakers and James at 10:00 PM (ET).

TNT's regular season coverage ends on Thursday, April 11, with the Knicks and Randle taking on Tatum and the Celtics at 7:30 PM (ET), followed by Fox and the Kings hosting Zion Williamson and the New Orleans Pelicans at 10:00 PM (ET).

The network is slated to televise the 2024 NBA All-Star Weekend in Indianapolis, Indiana from Friday, February 16 through Sunday, February 18. In addition to this, TNT has the most NBA Playoff games of any network, culminating in exclusive coverage of the 2024 NBA Western Conference Finals.

  1. I'm wondering how the Warriors are going to use Chris Paul. They're going to have manage his playing time. He has a unfortunate history of injuries when the playoffs roll around. Also is he actually a upgrade at his position? Anthony Davis has to find away to remain healthy also. LeBron James can't go full throttle for a entire game anymore. He has a lot of miles on his sneakers. Anthony Davis and the rest of the Lakers are going to have to really step this season.

    1. @Robert Thompson Robert, thank you so much for your comment! According to sources, Chris Paul will be starting for Golden State. But, Chris Paul is no spring chicken either. Chris Paul's injury history is well-known. Anthony Davis must remain healthy in order for the Lakers to return to the mountaintop and win another title; this summer, the Lakers brought in centers/big guys Christian Wood and Jaxson Hayes in free agency to try to supplement AD. And LeBron James is about to enter his 21st season (!!) in the league, as well. Yea, LeBron is not getting any younger.

  2. For January 16, why does it say Nba Tuesday premiere?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. @Mark T. Tuesday, January 16 is the season debut of "NBA on TNT" Tuesdays, the Tuesday package that TNT has held for several years now. The Tuesdays before that date don't count for the Tuesday night franchise, because TNT shifts their doubleheader day from Thursdays (before 2021-22) to Tuesdays to avoid competition with the NFL during the fall season (September - December).

  3. Tamir, do you think Brian Anderson would ever call the slam dunk contest?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. @Mark T. I certainly don't rule that out, Mark. Maybe in the next few seasons. Kevin is 63 years old, and is obviously towards the end of his career rather than the beginning. And Brian Anderson, currently the #2 announcer, and will probably take over as the #1 announcer once Kevin retires.

    2. Yeah. I love Kevin, but I feel like he doesn't have much left in the tank. Brian could've been the top announcer once Marv Albert retired.

  5. How is the mid-season tournament going to work?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. @Mark T. Mark, the NBA's new mid-season (In-Season) Tournament is going to work like this. It's pretty complicated, to be honest.

      Here's a quick summary.

      Group Play:
All 30 NBA teams will play on "Tournament Nights" on Tuesdays and Fridays during the month of November. Four games will be contested during the "Group Play" round (two at home, two at road).

      Knockout Rounds:
Eight teams move on to Knockout Rounds (the other 22 teams are sent "home" from the tournament itself). One team from each of the six Groups plus two "wild-cards" (second best team in Group Play from a particular conference).

Knockout Rounds are single-elimination games taking place in local NBA cities on Monday, December 4 & Tuesday, December 5. Four teams will come out of the two "Knockout Round" nights (the other four are out).

      Semifinals and Championship:
The Semifinals and Championship then will be held in Las Vegas at T-Mobile Arena on Thursday, December 7 & Saturday, December 9, with the four teams surviving the Knockout Rounds participating for the first-ever NBA Cup.

(Think about the NCAA Final Four using this same model.)

Yeah, Mark, it's a lot of information to digest here. But, I tried to simplify a protracted story into an easy, simple to understand summation.

    2. Hmm. So it's kinda like the World Cup (soccer, not basketball)?

  7. How will guys who call NFL games be able to call NBA games? (Eagle, Harlan and Dedes)

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. @Mark T. Mark, Kevin Harlan is a freaking workaholic. Harlan typically calls NFL games for CBS on Sundays, Westwood One on Mondays, and one NBA game a week (or two this week because it's the opening week). So, Kevin somehow makes that insane schedule work.

For Ian Eagle, Eagle normally covers Thursday Night Football for Westwood One and Sunday NFL games for CBS. However, keep in mind that Eagle also does the Brooklyn Nets. Ian's schedule does allow for some flexibility, meaning that other announcers (like Kevin Kugler, etc.) could fill in for him on Thursday Night Football, opening up his schedule. So, Ian Eagle would have a Thursday night off in order to open up his schedule for the NBA.

As for Spero Dedes, Spero is the #4 announcer for TNT (behind Harlan, Anderson & Eagle), meaning that he is mainly used in spot duty. Spero only does NFL games on Sundays for CBS along with select fill-in work on Westwood One. So Spero's schedule is mainly free to call the NBA during the week (when needed).

      Delete
    2. Hmm. So they all work Westwood One games.

    2. @Mark T. Yes, it sure was. What an ending to that San Antonio-Phoenix game, with Kevin Durant turning the ball over and the Spurs winning the game. Their young core, Keldon Johnson, Devin Vassell, and of course, Victor Wembanyama, are playing really well to start off the season.

No "NBA on TNT" (or no NBA games, period) next Tuesday because of Election Day.

      Delete
    3. Yeah, I think this Spurs team could make a run for the play-in tournament, or maybe even the playoffs.

Makes sense about no games next Tuesday. Even if there were games, TNT wouldn't be able to air them due to NHL coverage.

  20. I wonder if they'll have Ian Eagle call the Suns game, as he's also calling the Cardinals game.

    1. @Mark T. I was thinking that too. Plus, the Brooklyn Nets (the NBA team that Ian Eagle works for calling games on the YES Network) will also be in the Phoenix area for a game on Wednesday night. Ian's son, Noah (the new NBC Big Ten Saturday night announcer/Nickelodeon pxp man), is working the Nets/Kings game tonight in Sacramento, as a side note (and he sounds just like his father; Noah began filling in for his dad on select Nets games beginning with this season).

  24. Happy New Year, everyone!

We are back, up and running, for 2024! And now, let's talk about the first week of 2024 in the basketball world 🏀 🎙.

Time to preview the Week 11 NBA national television schedule for TNT (subject to change):

    * Thursday, January 4
. 7:30 PM ET - Milwaukee Bucks vs. San Antonio Spurs - TNT
. 10:00 PM ET - Denver Nuggets vs. Golden State Warriors - TNT

    1. Why aren't they gonna flex out the Spurs due to their awful record?

      Delete
    2. @Mark T. I think that MIL/SA and DEN/GS are the only two NBA games on Thursday, meaning TNT is stuck with the Spurs despite the fact that they are terrible (don't blame Victor Wembanyama for that, tho). However, if TNT had other games that night to choose from, then yes, MIL/SA would have been flexed out.

    3. @Christian Yeah, that Bucks- Spurs game was a lot closer than expected. Great doubleheader for TNT.

    * Thursday, January 11
. 7:30 PM ET - Boston Celtics at Milwaukee Bucks - TNT
    TBD

. 10:00 PM ET - Phoenix Suns at Los Angeles Lakers - TNT
    TBD

This post will be updated with announcers once we find them out.

In all, TNT will be airing just their Thursday night doubleheader (two games) and that's it for the week. Next week, tho, TNT is busy with six games over three days (thanks to the season premiere of "NBA on TNT Tuesday" and MLK Day Jr. DH adding to the Thursday DH already in the books).

I hope you guys enjoy this week's NBA action on TNT!

  46. April 2nd first game Thunder vs 76ers

    ReplyDelete
  47. Why did they switch the Mavs-Warriors game to the Bay?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. @Mark T. Mark, due to the tragic death of Warriors assistant coach Dejan Milojevic back in January, the Warriors had to postpone two games (a January 17 game at Utah and a January 19 game vs. Dallas). Thus, the Warriors had to find places on the schedule to make up these games. The Utah road game was made up on Thursday, February 15 and the Dallas home game will be made up on Tuesday, April 2 (The Warriors at Mavericks game will be played on Friday, April 5, instead; the Warriors also have another game at Dallas, on Wednesday, March 13, but that one was initially scheduled and not rescheduled). Hope this explanation makes sense.
