After taking off last Saturday due to the FIFA World Cup, Fox Sports returns to its season-long Major League Baseball coverage on Saturday, July 4, with two games regionalized across the country. Additionally, it’s the 250th birthday of America 🇺🇸, so that’s something to keep in mind! There is NOTHING better than baseball and celebrating our wonderful country at the same time.
Baseball Night in America, Fox Sports’ marquee weekly MLB primetime show, returns to the menu just in time for the 4th of July on Saturday, July 4, with a special 8:00 PM ET start. This week, Fox will broadcast a National League East rivalry as Francisco Lindor and the New York Mets visit Ronald Acñua Jr. and the Atlanta Braves, or Masyn Winn and the St. Louis Cardinals clash with Michael Busch and the Chicago Cubs in the latest edition of that famous Midwestern rivalry. Which game will you be getting on Independence Day, and who’s set to call the game? Read on to find out.
I should mention that Fox will precede “Baseball Night in America” this Saturday with a special half-hour program that will reveal the 2026 MLB All-Star Game rosters, starting at 7:30 PM (ET).
Cardinals vs. Cubs — Saturday, 8:00 PM ET/7:00 PM CT on Fox:
Two longtime rivals renew their longstanding rivalry on the familiar diamond at Chicago’s Wrigley Field as rookie sensation JJ Wetherholt and the St. Louis Cardinals (44-38) play Seiya Suzuki and the Chicago Cubs (48-38) for the middle game of a divisional weekend series on Saturday, July 4, at 8:00 PM ET on Fox. This is the second series of the year between the Cubs and Cardinals, as the two ancient rivals previously met in late May at Busch Stadium, with St. Louis taking two out of three. With both teams in the playoff hunt, this series is crucial for both.
The lead MLB on Fox broadcast team of Joe Davis (play-by-play), Hall of Famer John Smoltz (analyst), and Emmy-Award-winning reporter Ken Rosenthal (field reporter) provide commentary for Cardinals-Cubs from Wrigley Field in Chicago, Illinois.
St. Louis is positioned nicely in the National League Wild Card hunt as they enter the July 4th weekend. As of Tuesday, June 30, they are tied with the Miami Marlins for the National League’s final Wild Card spot. Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol and his team now look ahead to this important series against a division foe which is also in the playoff mix, just like themselves. The Cardinals feature 24-year-old rising star Jordan Walker, a former 1st-round pick by St. Louis in 2020, who leads the team in home runs (18) and runs batted in (38). The Cardinals defeated the Braves 5-3 on Tuesday down in Atlanta; the win was powered by home runs from Nathan Church (6) and Nelson Velázquez (3).
Things are getting good in the Windy City, as of late, folks. The Cubs have now won 14 of the past 18 games to find themselves at 48-38 on the season. During Chicago’s most recent four-game winning streak, the Cubs have totaled 24 runs over this span. The Cubs clipped the Padres, 9-7, on Tuesday night in a rematch of last year’s Wild Card Series between these teams. Cubs 3B Alex Bregman launched a three-home run in the Chicago night, while Cubs SS Dansby Swanson collected two home runs on the night. Swanson leads the Cubs in runs batted in with 49.
Mets vs. Braves — Saturday, 8:00 PM ET on Fox:
Two clubs on completely different ends of the spectrum clash for the second game of a three-game weekend set as Francisco Lindor and the New York Mets (36-50) face off against Drake Baldwin and the NL East-leading Atlanta Braves (49-34) on Saturday, July 4, at 8:00 PM ET on Fox. It seems the 2026 season is completely lost for the Mets, while the Braves remain one of the best teams in the National League despite recent adversity. Believe it or not, the Mets are 2-1 vs. Atlanta in the 2026 regular season series, with New York besting Atlanta in a three-game set at Citi Field in June.
Fox Sports’ Kenny Albert (play-by-play) and 2005 World Series champion AJ Pierzynski (analyst) will call Mets-Braves from Truist Park in Atlanta, Georgia.
Things have been disastrous in New York this season, with the Mets starting the year 10-21. After a promising 16-12 record in May, things have taken a downturn. The Mets went 9-17 in June, and last week, manager Carlos Mendoza was dismissed and replaced by interim manager Andy Green. Nevertheless, the Mets managed a 3-0 shutout against the Blue Jays on Tuesday in Toronto, with Nolan McLean pitching six scoreless innings.
The Braves are significantly outperforming the Mets, with a 49-34 record, and are entering the July 4th weekend with momentum 🔥. However, even top teams face challenges over a long 162-game season. On June 7, the Braves stood strong with a 45-21 record and a 9.5-game lead in the NL East. Since then, though, Atlanta has slowed down, posting a 4-13 record and suffering back-to-back series losses to the Padres and Giants. As a result, Atlanta’s NL East lead has been shaved down from 9.5 games on June 7 to just 2.5 games as of June 30. The Braves dropped their series opener with the Cardinals, 5-3, on Tuesday evening despite CF Michael Harris II knocking in two of the three runs.
