ESPN, in synchrony with Major League Baseball (MLB), announced the early season 2025 Sunday Night Baseball schedule earlier this week (Wednesday, January 15). ESPN is scheduled to start the 36th season of the exclusive Sunday night game of the week on Sunday, March 30 when Ronald Acuṉa Jr. and the Atlanta Braves battle Fernando Tatis Jr. and the San Diego Padres at 7:00 PM ET. As a quick reminder, Sunday Night Baseball broadcasts start at 7:00 PM ET on Sunday nights and can be found across ESPN, ESPN Radio, the ESPN App, and ESPN Deportes. Baseball Tonight: Sunday Night Countdown typically airs on ESPN at 6:00 PM ET and functions as a one-hour pregame program for Sunday Night Baseball.
ESPN will televise 25 Sunday Night Baseball games between late March and late September. Selections for additional Sunday Night Baseball games will be made up two weeks before the date of the game. Furthermore, ESPN holds exclusive rights to five additional MLB games (that don't count for the Sunday Night Baseball package), an Opening Day doubleheader, the T-Mobile Home Run Derby in July, and the MLB Wild Card Series in October.
* Commentary Teams:
Television -- For the fourth straight year, Sunday Night Baseball on ESPN features the commentary team of Karl Ravech (play-by-play), Eduardo Pérez (analyst), David Cone (analyst) & Buster Olney (reporter). In fact, Olney continues his longstanding run on the series, as Buster begins his 15th season as a reporter/contributor.
Radio -- On the radio side, Jon "Boog" Sciambi (play-by-play) and Doug Glanville (analyst) will be paired together to provide the Sunday Night Baseball radio call across the national airwaves of ESPN Radio.
Before Sunday Night Baseball, ESPN will have a one-hour pregame show to preview the upcoming SNB game and recap the other Sunday MLB matchups. Baseball Tonight: Sunday Night Countdown will generally air at 6:00 PM ET on Sunday nights, leading into the forthcoming SNB matchup. Host Kevin Connors will anchor most editions of the program, joined by respected and decorated analysts/insiders, including senior MLB insider Jeff Passan, National Baseball Hall of Fame sportswriter Tim Kurkjian, analysts Xavier Scruggs and Jessica Mendoza.
In addition to the MLB on ESPN commentators listed above, Mike Monaco, Anish Shroff, Mike Couzens, Kevin Brown, Roxy Bernstein, Ben McDonald, and Gregg Olson will also provide commentary for select events during the year on ESPN platforms.
2025 Sunday Night Baseball early-season game schedule highlights include:
- The top MLB stars take center stage, including Aaron Judge, Shohei Ohtani, Juan Soto, Mookie Betts, Bryce Harper, Ronald Acuña Jr., Fernando Tatís Jr., and more.
- The clubs with the most early-season SNB games include the Los Angeles Dodgers (four), New York Mets (four), Philadelphia Phillies (three) & San Diego Padres (three).
- Subway Series: New York Mets vs. New York Yankees during MLB's Rivalry Week on Sunday, May 18.
- 2024 National League Championship Series: Mookie Betts and the defending World Series champions Los Angeles Dodgers visit Juan Soto and the New York Mets on Sunday, May 25.
- 2024 World Series re-match: Aaron Judge and the New York Yankees visit Shohei Ohtani and the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday, June 1.
- The Special Fourth of July doubleheader includes TBD (6:00 PM ET) & Rangers-Padres (9:00 PM ET) on Sunday, July 6.
- The 2025 MLB Little League Classic on Sunday Night Baseball: Seattle Mariners vs. New York Mets on Sunday, August 17.
Opening Day on ESPN:
As previously announced, ESPN's 36th year of MLB coverage will start with a doubleheader on Opening Day, Thursday, March 27. At 3:00 PM ET, Aaron Judge and the defending American League champions New York Yankees hosted Christian Yelich and the defending National League Central champions Milwaukee Brewers to town. At 7:00 PM (ET), Tarik Skubal and the Detroit Tigers (coming off their first postseason since 2014) visit Shohei Ohtani and the reigning World Series champions Los Angeles Dodgers. Baseball Tonight will air from 6:00 PM ET to 7:00 PM ET on ESPN and will have live coverage of the Dodgers' banner-raising ceremony.
ESPN first broadcast MLB games way back in 1990. The debut episode of Sunday Night Baseball was on April 15, 1990, when the New York Mets visited the Montréal Expos (featuring the original SNB commentary crew of Jon Miller and the late great Joe Morgan). The network formerly televised two additional regular-season packages besides Sunday Night Baseball, Monday Night Baseball and Wednesday Night Baseball, until those programs were discontinued following the 2021 season (as ESPN decided to reduce their MLB coverage to just Sunday Night Baseball alongside marquee events, such as the Home Run Derby and Wild Card Series).
Sadly 😢, as we learned on Thursday, February 20, ESPN and Major League Baseball (MLB) are "mutually parting ways" following the 2025 season, meaning that this is ESPN's final season carrying Major League Baseball following a 36-season run. I have set up a link to an article on Yahoo Sports, explaining in greater detail the MLB/ESPN breakup. So, please read it when you have some time.
The following is the complete regular season schedule for the MLB on ESPN during the 2025 season. The schedule will include the Sunday Night Baseball games in addition to selecting non-SNB games that ESPN will also be televising during the season (Subject to Change).

Hi Tamir Good Afternoon. I am excited for this MLB Season as a diehard Yankees fan. I am also someone who loves to track MLB Schedules especially on TV. What team are you a fan of?
ReplyDelete@AaronJudgeMVP 29 Hi and good afternoon to you as well. I am a huge Phillies fan, even though they have broken my hearts over the past two seasons in particular. Thanks for your interest and your comment!
DeleteNice. We play you July 25-27 in Yankee Stadium. I am upset that we aren’t on FOX on July 26 like Dodgers Red Sox 7:15pm but I hope we are on FS1 because we play at 1:05pm. Btw, I remember looking at your blogs in 2021, you had 4 possible SNB matchups on September 26 which were Braves Padres, White Sox Indians, Yankees Red Sox (was the pick) and Cardinals Cubs. I know that ESPN chooses 4 possible matchups each Sunday and they choose 1 because I spoke to Ben Cafardo of ESPN. Do you know if Phillies Yankees are one on July 27? I know Dodgers Red Sox are in the hunt because it shows TBD on MLB App for Dodgers Red Sox that game like Yankees Red Sox June 15.
DeleteWhy is there a doubleheader on July 6?
ReplyDelete@Mark T. Mark, it's probably a special-off thing. ESPN has the rights to air five additional games that are not Sunday Night Baseball games and I'm assuming this is one of these five games.
DeleteMakes sense I suppose.
DeleteHey Tamir, MLB just announced the TBS games. I sent you a link on email.
ReplyDelete@AaronJudgeMVP29 Thanks! I have a question for you. What is your first name? So I give you the proper attribution & credit?
DeleteYeah, it’s Jonathan.
DeleteJoe Buck will be on the call of Brewers-Yankees.
ReplyDelete@Mark T. Mark, it's great to see Joe Buck back calling MLB games nationally (once if it is for one game only)!
DeleteTamir, I think I found 2 hidden ESPN games. NYM vs BAL July 9, BOS vs PHI July 23. Because their original times were at 6:35 & 6:05pm but they both moved to 7:05pm. I know because ESPN televised a game each Wednesday before & after ASB last year too.
ReplyDelete@AaronJudgeMVP 29 Good detective work! Thank you! ESPN televises FIVE non Sunday Night Baseball games, and apparently, we now know two of these games. Thanks!
DeleteYeah Thanks. MIL/NYY & DET/LAD too March 27. 6pm July 6 as well but it’s TBD likely gonna be NYY/NYM. I have a separate question tho, do you have sources of which matchups will contend on ESPN for future Sundays? Cause on Yankees printable schedule website for home games it’s BOS/NYY 6/8, HOU/NYY 8/10 & BOS/NYY 8/24 with red border and asterisks. I want to know which other 3 matchups are competing with those games for each date.
ReplyDeleteOne more thing PHI/NYY will NOT compete for SNB on 7/27, cause there’s no red border around it and I’m mad at that too. I def know LAD/BOS is a matchup for that date, cause the game was slated as TBD before BOS put it to 1:35pm and same with 6/15 NYY/BOS… lol.
ReplyDeleteWe got another culprit, please mark the 2016 WS rematch for July 2.
ReplyDeleteCubs possible games ESPN according to MARQ on MLB.com
ReplyDeleteJun 29 CHC vs HOU
Jul 6 STL vs CHC
Jul 20 BOS vs CHC
Aug 10 CHC vs STL
Sep 21 CHC vs CIN
However Tamir, how did you get sources for what games would be possible in 2021?
ReplyDelete@AaronJudgeMVP29 Jonathan, I received sources for potential SNB games in 2021 due to this old sports forum that I was a member of, called 506Sports.com (which is now Discord by the way), somebody on those forums had some intel on scheduling and that's how I found out.
DeleteGotcha. So you only had these sources in 2021? Because I never saw these in the 2022-2024 schedules you posted.
Delete@AaronJudgeMVP29 Yes Jonathan, just for the one season in 2021. It is a shame that I didn't have these sources in the years since, but I have figured things out on my own.
DeleteWow, I wish you had them lol. It was fun to see it in 2021, the 4 possibilities and the chosen one of the 4. I’ll just say this here for remembrance…
DeleteSun Aug 29 (BOS vs CLE, SF vs ATL, CHC vs CWS NYY vs OAK) Verdict: NYY vs OAK
Sun Sep 19 (CLE vs NYY, LAD vs CIN, PHI vs NYM, SD vs STL) Verdict: PHI vs NYM
Sun Sep 26 (CWS vs CLE, NYY vs BOS, STL vs CHC or ATL vs SD) Verdict: NYY vs BOS
You know, some teams leaked it on their printable schedules. The Cardinals would show “TV Network TBD”, like NYY vs STL Aug 7 2022 but it lost to SD vs LAD and I was so MAD. ATL vs STL Aug 28 2022 was the same and it got chosen.
So where will Sunday Night Baseball go after this year?
ReplyDelete@Mark T. Mark, I don't know the answer to that question. That has not been decided as of yet. I would think NBC/Peacock would pick up ESPN's package, but that is just my speculation.
DeleteI was thinking NBC as well.
DeleteI was wondering, is the reason NYY/BOS hasn't been selected for SNB on 6/15 because the Red Sox have to travel to Seattle the next night and it would be a tough turnaround for them? Usually ESPN always selects NYY/BOS early in the season so I was curious about that.
ReplyDelete@Atsushi Idobe Perhaps that's a reason why
DeleteLAD possible ESPN games according to LAD Printable Schedule
ReplyDeleteSun Jun 15 SF vs LAD
Sun Jul 27 LAD vs BOS
Sun Aug 24 LAD vs SD
ESPN has a max out rule of 5 times a team can be used on SNB each year. The Dodgers already are 4 guaranteed, so this is why there’s only 3 Dodger matchup possibilities for the rest of the season. Personally I hope they choose LAD vs BOS on July 27, the same play we play your Phillies Tamir. Would you choose that matchup out of the 3 the most?
ReplyDelete@AaronJudgeMVP29 I would say so, Jonathan, because of the natural Red Sox vs. Dodgers rivalry that exists. Of course, they met in the 2018 World Series (a series in which Boston won). If not for that game, I would go with the Padres game on August 24 since San Diego has been solid over the past 3-4 seasons and they have a fierce playoff rivalry with the Dodgers since the clubs have met in plenty of NLDS series over the past half decade or so.
DeleteI’m in love for inter league matchups so that’s why too. I’m excited for June 29 battle between CHC/HOU & PHI/ATL. I’m going CHC/HOU but it’s gonna be a good one. As a Phillies fan which team is your least favorite in all MLB?
DeleteTamir, I’m just saying that maybe you should try to get these 3-4 possible matchup sources for SNB again this year, especially close to the first date Jun 8. Cause I want to know the possible matchups.
ReplyDeleteTamir, follow me on Twitter, YankeesLegends29, just followed you.
