- Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame play-by-play commentator Mike Breen will extend his record by calling his 19th consecutive NBA Finals (2006-present); joined by fellow Hall of Famer Doris Burke, analyst JJ Redick and reporter Lisa Salters to create new NBA Finals broadcast team.
- Host Malika Andrews hosts NBA Countdown pregame show for the first time during the NBA Finals; New York Knicks guard Josh Hart to serve as a guest analyst for Games 1 & 2; Los Angeles Clippers forward/guard Paul George to serve as a guest analyst for Games 3 &4; New York Knicks forward Julius Randle to serve as a guest analyst for Game 5; Expanded four-hour pregame coverage for Game 1 in Boston.
The 2024 NBA Finals presented by YouTube TV, presented exclusively on ABC, begins on Thursday, June 6, at 8:30 PM (ET) with Game 1 as the Eastern Conference champion Boston Celtics - led by Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown - host the Dallas Mavericks with Luka Dončić and former Celtics guard and current Mavericks guard Kyrie Irving. NBA Finals broadcasts typically start at 8:30 PM (ET), with the exception being for Sunday broadcasts, which will start at 8:00 PM (ET) instead.
Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame commentator Doris Burke makes history for the 2024 NBA Finals as she will become the first women commentator to work a men's professional championship event as a television game analyst. Previously, Burke called the NBA Finals on ESPN Radio for four years (2020-2023) and worked the NBA Finals on ABC as a sideline reporter for eleven years (2009-2019). In all, Burke is set to cover her 16th straight NBA Finals this year in some capacity.
Mike Breen, the current generation voice of the NBA Finals and fellow Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame commentator (like Burke), will extend his record by calling his 19th straight NBA Finals. The last person other than Breen to call the NBA Finals was the legendary sportscaster Al Michaels in 2005 (Pistons vs. Spurs). As of now, Breen has been in the booth for 100 NBA Finals broadcasts.
ESPN NBA analyst JJ Redick, who played in the NBA for 15 years, will join Breen and Burke to formulate the new NBA Finals commentating team. Redick joined the lead broadcast team in February, during the second half of the season. Lisa Salters also joins the team as the sideline reporter, working her fourth Finals (2006, 2022-present).
Expanded NBA Finals Studio Coverage, Josh Hart to serve as a guest analyst for Games 1 & 2, Paul George to serve as a guest analyst for Games 3 & 4, Julius Randle to serve as a guest analyst for Game 5
Malika Andrews, host of ESPN's NBA Countdown and NBA Today, gets the call to host NBA Countdown presented by DoorDash from the game sites of the NBA Finals for the very first time. Andrews will lead coverage of the Finals during pregame and halftime programming on ABC and ESPN. New York Knicks guard Josh Hart will serve as a guest analyst on NBA Countdown during Games 1 & 2. Nine-time All-Star Paul George will join the NBA Countdown set as a guest analyst for Games 3 & 4. Three-time All-Star Julius Randle will join the NBA Countdown team as a guest analyst for Game 5. This season's new-look NBA Countdown team also includes studio analyst Stephen A. Smith, two-time Executive of the Year Bob Myers, Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame sportswriter Michael Wilbon, and senior NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski.
ESPN is expanding the NBA Finals pregame studio coverage to four hours on Thursday, June 6, prior to Game 1 of the Finals. The NBA Finals Special presented by ESPN Bet will air from 3:00 PM (ET) to 5:00 PM (ET) on ESPN and from 5:00 PM (ET) to 6:00 PM (ET) on ESPN2. The first half of the program will emanate from outside of the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts. Following SportsCenter from 6:00 PM (ET) to 7:30 PM (ET), NBA Countdown presented by DoorDash will air from 7:30 PM (ET) to 8:00 PM (ET) on ESPN and from 8:00 PM (ET) to 8:30 PM (ET) on ABC. Malika Andrews will host of the pregame activity from Boston, with Richard Jefferson, Chiney Ogwumike, Zach Lowe, Brian Windhorst and Adrian Wojnarowski. NBA Countdown presented by DoorDash will air from 7:30 PM (ET) to 8:00 PM (ET) on ESPN & from 8:00 PM (ET) to 8:30 PM (ET) on all NBA Finals game nights, with the exception of Sunday night games, which will see the show air from 7:00 PM (ET) to 7:30 PM (ET) on ESPN & 7:30 PM (ET) to 8:00 PM (ET) on ABC instead.
NBA Today, ESPN's daily NBA studio program that airs weekdays (Monday-Friday) from 3:00 PM (ET) to 4:00 PM (ET), is also hitting the road for the NBA Finals with on-site shows in Boston and Dallas during the course of the series. Malika Andrews hosts NBA Today from on-site locations in Boston and Dallas, with a variety of analysts and writers, including Kendrick Perkins, Richard Jefferson, Chiney Ogwumike, Ramona Shelburne and Zach Lowe.
