ESPN Is Slated to Air The Biggest Amount of Football Action in Company's 40+ Year History

ESPN, the so called "Worldwide World Leader in Sports" and the home of Monday Night Football, has officially announced their 2021 schedule plans.

ESPN will produce the most-ever amount of regular season games that the company has done in a single season since ESPN's 1979 launch. ESPN will have 19 regular season contests this season: 17 Monday Night Football games (Weeks 1-17) and a Saturday, Week 18 doubleheader on Saturday, January 8, 2022. This season will mark the first time that ESPN/ABC will be involved in televising at least one NFL game a week for the complete duration of the season.

The 2021 Monday Night Football schedule starts with ABC simulating ESPN's broadcast of the Week 1 Baltimore Ravens vs. Las Vegas Raiders matchup. This Sept. 13 game will be the first time that fans will be allowed inside of the Raiders' new digs, Allegiant Stadium.

The last two MVP's, Aaron Rodgers (Green Bay) and Lamar Jackson (Baltimore), will both be involved in ESPN's MNF 2021 plans. Rodgers' Packers will host the Detroit Lions in Week 2 (Sept. 20) while Jackson's Ravens will be back on Monday night in Week 5 when they host Carson Wentz and the Indianapolis Colts (Oct. 11).

Tom Brady (Tampa Bay) and Patrick Mahomes (Kansas City), the last two Super Bowl MVP's, will both appear on Monday Night Football this year. Tampa Bay and Kansas City will host Saquon Barkley and the New York Giants. The Giants-Chiefs game will be on Monday, Nov. 1 (Week 8) and the Giants-Buccaneers game will be on Monday, Nov. 22 (Week 11).

Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson will both appear twice this season. The Steelers will host the Chicago Bears on Monday, Nov. 8 (Week 9) and the Cleveland Browns on Monday, Jan. 3 (Week 17). The Seahawks will host the New Orleans Saints on Monday, Oct. 25 (Week 7) and visit the Washington Football Team during Thanksgiving weekend, Monday, Nov. 29 (Week 12).

All 14 teams that made last season's NFL playoffs will appear on Monday Night Football this year. The Ravens, Bills, Bears, Rams, Saints, Steelers and Seahawks appear twice.

Monday Night Football will nationally feature the first Eagles-Cowboys game of the season as Philly visits Dallas in Week 3. Expect rookies DeVonta Smith (Eagles) and Micah Parsons (Cowboys) to their marks to this historic, once-of-a-kind, rivalry.

Mid-season, Matthew Stafford and the Rams visit the 49ers on Nov. 15 (Week 10). Monday Night Football concludes its 2021 schedule with four divisional games in the final five weeks, including the season finale of Browns at Steelers (last year's AFC Wild Card Game re-match) on Jan. 3 (Week 17).

3 Monday Night Football games features division winners from last season: Buffalo at Tennessee on Oct. 11, New Orleans at Seattle on Oct. 25 & Seattle at Washington on Nov. 29.

Justin Herbert, last season's Rookie of the Year, and the Chargers host the Raiders in Week 4 (Oct. 4). In addition, young Bills quarterback Josh Allen and Bills wide receiver Stefon Diggs add two more primetime games to their young careers: at Tennessee in Week 5 (Oct. 11) and vs. New England in Week 13 (Dec. 6).

Young Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray (best-known for his "Hail Murray" to wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins last season) will make his Monday Night Football home debut vs. Jalen Ramsey and the Rams on Dec. 6 (Week 13). Plus, Tua Tagovailoa (Dolphins QB) will make his Monday Night Football debut in Week 16 as the Dolphins travel to the Big Easy to take on the Saints (Dec. 27).

During the final week of the season, on Saturday, January 8th, ESPN (with ABC simulcast) will air two games at 4:15 PM (ET) and 8:15 PM (ET) that feature playoff implications. These two games will be determined towards the end of the regular season.

ESPN's Monday Night Football team of Steve Levy, Louis Riddick, Brian Griese and Lisa Salters will all return this season. Officiating expert John Parry will also be back, joining the MNF team when needed.

ESPN will also televise two preseason games this August. First up, the Chiefs visit the Cardinals on Friday, August 20th at 8:00 PM (ET). Then, on Monday, August 23rd, #1 overall pick Trevor Lawrence and the Jaguars go to New Orleans for a preseason exhibition with the Saints at 8:00 PM (ET).

Following ESPN's extensive regular-season lineup, ABC and ESPN will air a Wild Card game and the 2021 Pro Bowl from Las Vegas' Allegiant Stadium.

NOTE: On select Monday nights throughout the season, ESPN2 will air a broadcast called Monday Night Football with Peyton and Eli, in which former NFL quarterbacks Peyton Manning and Eli Manning provide and furnish their own commentary on "Monday Night Football" games.
