The 2024 SoFi NBA Play-in Tournament is set to finish up tomorrow (Friday, April 19) with a doubleheader - Bulls vs. Heat at 7 p.m. (ET) on ESPN and Kings vs. Pelicans at 9:30 p.m. (ET) on TNT. These games will help us determine which teams grab the final two remaining playoff berths for the 2024 NBA Playoffs presented by Google Pixel. Then, on Saturday, April 20, the best time of the basketball 🏀 season officially begins with the advent of the 2024 NBA Playoffs presented by Google Pixel. First up, the Conference Quarterfinals, or the first round as many often refer to this round. This weekend, across Saturday (April 20) and Sunday (April 21) eight First Round Game 1's will be contested across the networks of ABC, ESPN and TNT.

The ESPN family of the networks will televise six of the eight games this weekend (four on Saturday and two on Sunday), while TNT gets a Sunday doubleheader to finish the weekend out.

Saturday's Conference Quarterfinal action begins in Cleveland at 1:00 PM ET on ESPN as Paolo Banchero and the Orlando Magic (#5 seed) take on Donovan Mitchell and the Cleveland Cavaliers (#4 seed) in the opening match of the best-of-seven series. 🎙 Beth Mowins handles play-by-play duties alongside analyst Stephanie White and reporter Angel Gray. Then, at 3:30 PM ET on ESPN, Kevin Durant and the Phoenix Suns (#6 seed) ✈ travel to Minneapolis to face Anthony Edwards and the Minnesota Timberwolves (#3 seed) in Game 1 of their series. 🎙 Mark Jones will describe the activity on the court with Naismith Basketball Hall of Famer Hubie Brown and reporter Jorge Sedano.

Saturday's Conference Quarterfinal Game 1 coverage continues later that evening at 6:00 PM ET on ESPN, featuring the new NBA Finals presented by YouTube TV broadcast team working their first "official" postseason assignment. 🎙 Naismith Basketball Hall of Famers Mike Breen (play-by-play) and Doris Burke (analyst), analyst JJ Redick and reporter Lisa Salters set up at Madison Square Garden as Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers (#7 seed) clash with Jalen Brunson and the New York Knicks (#2 seed.).

The first day of playoff basketball concludes with a primetime telecast on ABC at 8:30 PM ET. LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers (#7 seed) play Nikola Jokić and the defending champion Denver Nuggets (#2 seed) to begin a Western Conference first-round series. 🎙 Dave Pasch (play-by-play) and analyst, two-time Executive of the Year (four-time champion overall) Bob Myers are on the call for the matchup, with sideline reporting handled by Katie George.

On Sunday, April 21, the first round of the Conference Quarterfinals marches on with a special ABC doubleheader (with games at 1:00 PM ET and 3:30 PM ET). The 1:00 PM ET game on ABC sees Jayson Tatum and the Boston Celtics (#1 seed) host either Bam Adebayo and the Miami Heat (#8 seed) for Game 1 of the first round. 🎙 Breen, Burke, Redick and Salters return to provide commentary for this game, their second game in less than 24 hours.

That game on ABC will be followed by the late afternoon tip-off in Southern California (3:30 PM ET) as Luka Dončić and the Dallas Mavericks (#5 seed) prepare to battle once again with Paul George and the Los Angeles Clippers (#4 seed). As you know, these teams are quite familiar with each other. These teams are meeting in the playoffs for the third time in the last five years, with the Clippers winning over Dallas in the 2020 bubble & in 2021. 🎙 Ryan Ruocco takes the microphone for the Game 1 play-by-play, joined by analyst and 2016 NBA Champion Richard Jefferson and reporter Cassidy Hubbarth.

Following the two Sunday afternoon games on ABC, TNT is set to make their postseason debut with a Sunday night doubleheader to cap off a exciting first weekend of postseason basketball.

A Eastern Conference duel from Fiserv Forum begins TNT's Sunday playoff coverage at 7:00 PM ET as Tyrese Haliburton and the upstart Indiana Pacers (#6 seed) get ready to collide with Damian Lillard and the Milwaukee Bucks (#3 seed) in Game 1 of their series. The 2023-24 NBA regular season has officially concluded. That means the postseason is starting to inch closer by the day. The 2024 NBA Playoffs presented by Google Pixel will officially kick off on Saturday, April 20 (this weekend). A separate article that is completely dedicated to the first round can be found here.

In the meanwhile, we are now getting ready for the fourth annual Play-in Tournament (a mini-tournament held before the actual postseason begins). The 2024 SoFi Play-in Tournament will take place from Tuesday, April 16 through Friday, April 19 (with a Thursday, April 18 off-day in the mix). ESPN and TNT will team up to televise all six Play-in Tournament games, with ESPN getting the Eastern Conference matchups and TNT grabbing Western Conference matchups. The reasoning for a network holding rights to a particular conference for the Play-in Tournament is because ESPN/ABC have exclusive rights to the Eastern Conference Finals this year while TNT gets the Western Conference Finals.

The #7 and #8 seeds in the Eastern Conference and Western Conference are up for grabs this week for the teams competing in the Play-in Tournament. Furthermore, the #1 and #2 seeds in each conference are paying special close attention to this particular play-in tournament because their first round opponent will be determined through the Play-in Tournament. The #2 seed in the East & West will find out their opponent by Wednesday night, with those series beginning on Saturday. The #1 seed in the East & West will get their first round challenger on Friday night, for a seven-game series beginning Sunday.

The 2024 SoFi Play-in Tournament begins on Tuesday, April 16, with a doubleheader on TNT. Tuesday's play-in schedule features Western Conference play-in games exclusively. 

To start Tuesday's schedule, LeBron James and the No. 8 seed Los Angeles Lakers face off with Zion Williamson and No. 7 seed New Orleans Pelicans at 7:30 PM ET on TNT. The Lakers were able to win the season series against New Orleans this year by defeating them in three of the four matchups (with one of these wins being by 44 points in the inaugural In-Season Tournament). James is coming off a strong game to close out his 21st regular season vs. this same New Orleans team on Sunday afternoon -- 28 points, 11 rebounds & 17 assists (yes, 17 assists!). The winner of this game will get the #7 seed in the West and advance on to match up with the #2 seed Denver Nuggets, the defending NBA champions, in a first round series beginning Saturday in Denver. The loser of this game, however, still has another shot to qualify for the playoffs by serving as the host team for Friday's night 8th place game vs. the winner of the Warriors vs. Kings play-in game. 🎤 TNT's lead commentator team of Kevin Harlan (play-by-play) and Reggie Miller (analyst) will have the game, alongside Allie LaForce (reporter).

Tuesday's doubleheader concludes in Sacramento, where two Northern California rivals butt heads once again in a postseason situation. Stephen Curry and the #10 seed Golden State Warriors battle De'Aaron Fox and the #9 Sacramento Kings at 10:00 PM ET on TNT. The teams split four regular season meetings this season. Obviously, these teams were involved in an enthralling seven-game series in the Conference Quarterfinals last season. Golden State ultimately got the upper hand in seven games, thanks to Curry's iconic 50-point performance in Game 7 while facing a hostile crowd and environment. For the second straight year, these teams run into each other. Unlike last year, where they could play up to seven games, this play-in game between the two teams serves as a "Game 7", with win or go home ramifications. Of course, Sacramento is looking for atonement and revenge for last season's saddening conclusion vs. the Warriors. The winner will participate in the 8th place game on Friday night against the Lakers vs. Pelicans play-in loser. The loser will see their season come to a sudden and abrupt end. 🎙 Play-by-play commentator Brian Anderson, analyst Stan Van Gundy and reporter Chris Haynes will be on-site in Sacramento for the call.

The 2024 SoFi Play-in Tournament then continues on Wednesday, April 17, with a doubleheader on ESPN featuring the Eastern Conference #7 vs. #8 and #9 vs. #10 play-in games.

Wednesday's doubleheader tips off in Philadelphia at 7:00 PM ET on ESPN as first-time All-Star Tyrese Maxey and the #7 seed Philadelphia 76ers welcome six-time All-Star Jimmy Butler and the #8 seed Miami Heat to town for a showdown to determine the Eastern Conference's #7 seed and to find out which team will face off with Jalen Brunson and the #2 seed New York Knicks in the first round. The clubs played four times during the regular season, with each team winning twice. The Heat & 76ers are playing in the postseason for the second time in three years, with the previous playoff encounter being the 2022 Eastern Conference Semifinals (where Butler's Heat eliminated the 76ers in six games). The loser of this contest will host the Hawks vs. Bulls winner for a Friday game to decide the East's #8 seed. 🎤 The new NBA Finals commentary crew of Naismith Basketball Hall of Famers Mike Breen (play-by-play) and Doris Burke (analyst), analyst JJ Redick and reporter Lisa Salters handle the game commentary from Philadelphia.

Wednesday's doubleheader continues in the Windy City at 9:30 PM ET on ESPN for a win-or-go home play-in game. Dejounte Murray and the #10 seed Atlanta Hawks come marching in to provide the opposition for six-time All-Star DeMar DeRozan and the #9 seed as both squads look to extend their season by one more game. DeRozan's Bulls got the best of Atlanta in the regular season play this season, with the Bulls coming away victorious in two of three matchups. The winner plays the Heat vs. 76ers play-in loser on Friday night, and the loser's season is done. 🎤 Ryan Ruocco (play-by-play) describes the action with Richard Jefferson (analyst) and Cassidy Hubbarth (reporter).

The 2024 SoFi Play-in Tournament will conclude on Friday, April 19, with a Eastern Conference 8th place game on ESPN & with a Western Conference 8th place game on TNT. More details about Friday night's games can be found below.

The final Eastern Conference SoFi NBA Play-in Tournament game leads off Friday's coverage down in South Florida, where DeMar DeRozan and the #10 seed Chicago Bulls square off with Bam Adebayo and the #8 seed Miami Heat at 7:00 PM ET, on ESPN. The #8 seed in the East is on the line here, as the winner will face the Boston Celtics in the first round of the NBA Playoffs while the loser will get eliminated (and thus their season ending). 🎤 The broadcast team of Ryan Ruocco (play-by-play), Richard Jefferson (analyst) & Cassidy Hubbarth (reporter) will call the action from Miami.

- The Yankees and Astros are scheduled to clash in a matchup featuring two American League foes that have played in four postseason series over the past nine seasons (with Houston winning all four of these series).

- Manny Machado and the Padres host Wilmer Flores and the Giants at PETCO Park as both squads look to bounce back following a 2023 season that saw both teams fail to qualify for postseason play.

Welcome to the 2024 baseball season, everyone ⚾! It is so exciting to begin another long, protracted journey towards playing in the World Series and ultimately winning a World Championship 🏆.

FOX Sports is set to launch their baseball coverage for the 29th season with a night of regional coverage this Saturday, March 30. Two games are planned to be distributed across the nation on the FOX broadcast network at 7:00 PM ET that evening. This will follow the Braves at Phillies game that FS1 will be airing earlier in the afternoon, at 4:00 PM ET.

Most of the nation will see Aaron Judge, Juan Soto and the new-look New York Yankees take on Jose Altuve and the defending American League West champion Houston Astros. The Yankees had an 82-80 season last year and missed the playoffs despite posting a winning record. Meanwhile, the Astros went 90-72, capturing yet another divisional championship for this franchise. The Astros defeated the Minnesota Twins in four games in the ALDS before falling short in an exciting seven game ALCS to the eventual World Series champion Texas Rangers. 🎤 FOX's lead commentary crew of Joe Davis, John Smoltz and Ken Rosenthal will be on the call from Minute Maid Park. Davis, Smoltz & Rosenthal begin their third season together as FOX's lead baseball announcing team.

Some of you will see Manny Machado and the San Diego Padres host Wilmer Flores and the San Francisco Giants in a NL West rivalry game from PETCO Park in San Diego. Both the Padres and the Giants missed the playoffs last season, as the Diamondbacks and Dodgers were the only two NL West teams that qualified for the postseason. 🎤  Announcers are unknown at this time.

2024 MLB on Apple TV+ Schedule

• "Friday Night Baseball" begins the third season on Friday, March 29 with a pair of games: New York Yankees at Houston Astros & St. Louis Cardinals at Los Angeles Dodgers

• The 2024 season is the first season that I will keep track of these broadcasts here on the blog (so I hope you enjoy this new feature here on the website).

Batter up! ⚾ For the third straight season, Apple and Major League Baseball (MLB) are teaming up to televise a weekly Friday night doubleheader for the subscribers of Apple TV+. Fans in 60 countries and regions have access to two signature matchups over 26 weeks without any broadcast restrictions whatsoever (keep in mind that local broadcasters aren't allowed to televise these games, as Friday Night Baseball is a exclusive national broadcast only).

"Friday Night Baseball" premieres for the 2024 season on Friday, March 29, with some of the league's most noteworthy talent set to take the field. At 8 p.m. ET, Juan Soto, Aaron Judge and the New York Yankees take on their longtime nemesis in the American League, the Houston Astros. Later that night, at 10 p.m. ET, Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts, and the Los Angeles Dodgers play host to the St. Louis Cardinals.

Apple and MLB announced the schedule for the first half of the 2024 season, with game selections announced from Friday, March 29 through Friday, June 28 (these games will be posted below).

Two broadcast teams will once again compromise the "Friday Night Baseball" game announcing roster this season. One broadcast team has Wayne Randazzo (play-by-play), Dontrelle Willis (analyst) & Heidi Watney (sideline reporter). Another broadcast team has Alex Faust (play-by-play), Ryan Spilborghs (analyst) & Tricia Whitaker (sideline reporter). In addition to the two broadcasting teams, former MLB umpires Ted Barrett, Brian Gorman and Dale Scott break down the calls and the rules, if needed, during each week's slate of broadcasts.

Lauren Gardner (host) is set to lead Apple TV+'s pre and postgame coverage, alongside former MLB player and current analyst Xavier Scruggs, and baseball journalist Russell Dorsey. On Friday, March 29, the "Friday Night Baseball" pregame show previewing the Yankees at Astros and Cardinals at Dodgers game will emanate from Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, featuring interviews with key players, and much more.
