CBS Sports’ Tom McCarthy (play-by-play), Super Bowl champion Robert Turbin (analyst) & Tiffany Blackmon (field reporter) will call Browns-Buccaneers from Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida.

| ⏵ Wednesday, September 16, 2026 (Press Release)

🟅 Highlights:
  • A special Thursday night edition of Baseball Night in America, with regional coverage of Phillies vs. Mets and Royals vs. Astros on Thursday, September 17 at 7:00 PM ET on Fox & Fox One.
  • This week, pay attention to Houston & Philadelphia as those teams continue their pursuit of October baseball. Houston is trying to lock down the AL West title, and Philadelphia is trying to secure a postseason berth.
  • Pregame coverage will lead into Thursday’s primetime coverage, with a half-hour program starting at 6:30 PM ET/3:30 PM PT on Fox.
  • Phillies-Mets Takes On NYC: Kyle Schwarber and the Philadelphia Phillies visit Francisco Lindor and the New York Mets on Thursday, September 17 at 7:00 PM ET on Fox & Fox One.
  • Astros Look To Handle Business: Jeremy Peña and the Houston Astros play host to Maikel Garcia and the Kansas City Royals as Houston continues to compete for yet another American League West title on Thursday, September 17 at 7:00 PM ET/6:00 PM CT on Fox & Fox One.

Hello, everyone! And welcome to this week’s edition of MLB on Fox: On Deck. We are winding down our MLB on Fox regular-season articles for 2026, as this article will serve as the penultimate edition before the final article is released next week for the final week of the regular season. I hope you have enjoyed these weekly articles. It has been an honor and a pleasure to work on these every week to help you get ready for MLB on Fox action.

This week, our friends over at Fox Sports will televise a special Thursday night edition of “Baseball Night in America”, with a pair of regionalized broadcasts on Thursday, September 17 at 7:00 PM ET on Fox and Fox One. This week’s game selections include Phillies-Mets from Citi Field in Flushing, NY or Royals-Astros from Daikin Park in Houston, TX. Which game will your local station televise and which announcer pairing will be assigned to your game? Continue reading for additional information.

► Phillies vs. Mets — Thursday, 7:00 PM ET on Fox & Fox One:
Trea Turner and the Philadelphia Phillies visit Francisco Lindor and the New York Mets as the two National League East clubs open a four-game series at Citi Field in Flushing, New York, on Thursday, September 17 at 7:15 PM ET on Fox and Fox One.

We have arrived at the final series between these foes in 2026. So far, Philadelphia holds a slim 5-4 series edge. By this stage of the year, this series has any meaning for only one of the teams involved.

The Phillies now find themselves in a dogfight as the team has basically no chance (barring a miracle) of claiming their third straight NL East title after going 3-4 vs. Atlanta in seven September head-to-head meetings. At this point, it’s safe to assume that it is Wild Card or bust for Philadelphia if they want to play October baseball for the fifth consecutive season. Following a miraculous NLCS run in 2024, New York has now missed the postseason in back-to-back years. Changes could be coming in New York come the offseason.

The home run king resides in Philadelphia! Phillies DH Kyle Schwarber leads the major leagues with 45 home runs this season, and He can add to that total this weekend while also helping his team in their quest to lock down a playoff spot.

► Royals vs. Astros — Thursday, 7:00 PM ET (6:00 PM CT) on Fox & Fox One:
Isaac Collins and the Kansas City Royals battle Jose Altuve and the Houston Astros in the rubber game of a three-game midweek series from Houston’s Daikin Park on Thursday, September 17 at 7:15 PM ET on Fox and Fox One.

Thursday will mark the end of the regular-season series between the Royals and Astros. Thus far, Houston is up 3-2 in the regular-season series. The Astros desperately need this one, as they are in a first-place tie with the Texas Rangers with the AL West title still up for grabs this deep into the regular season.

Yes, Kansas City has been eliminated from playoff contention. That doesn’t mean that the Royals want to end 2026 on a high note. The Royals are using this time to set a foundation for 2027 (assuming there is actually a season next year). With 10 games remaining, Christian Walker and the Astros MUST find a way to finish strong and hold off the challenging Texas Rangers as Houston seeks their eighth AL West crown since the start of the 2017 season (2020 and 2025 were the only times that Houston didn’t finish as AL West champions during this time period). Fortunately, Houston has a tiebreaker over Texas if the two teams finish tied at the end of the regular season.

The Triple Crown watch continues for Astros DH Yordan Alvarez. The 29-year-old is tied for fourth in home runs with the Braves’ Matt Olson (39), second in batting average (only behind Philadelphia’s Luis Arraez) (.310), and tied for sixth in runs batted in (alongside the Giants’ Rafael Devers) (98). Alvarez NEEDS to go crazy over the final 10 games to win the Triple Crown, given the competition around him.

Atlanta settled for a third-place finish in the NFC South last year with an 8-9 record.

Joe Davis (play-by-play), three-time Pro Bowl tight end Greg Olsen (analyst) & veteran reporter Pam Oliver (sidelines) will cover Sunday’s Falcons-Steelers matchup on-site in Pittsburgh.

➨ Bears vs. Panthers — Sunday, 1:00 PM ET on Fox & Fox One:
This Week 1 matchup is spotlighted by two former No. 1 overall picks as 2024 No. 1 overall pick Caleb Williams (USC) and the Chicago Bears line up against 2023 No. 1 overall pick Bryce Young (Alabama) and the Carolina Panthers in the opening game for both squads on Sunday, September 13 at 1:00 PM ET on Fox & Fox One. Both the Bears (11-6, NFC North) & Panthers (8-9, NFC South) claimed division titles last season, after finishing last or tied for last in their respective divisions the season prior (2024).

Adam Amin (play-by-play) will call play-by-play for Bears-Panthers, alongside Pro Football Hall of Famer Drew Brees (analyst) & Kristina Pink (field reporter).

Bears QB Caleb Williams set new career-highs last year with 3,942 passing yards & 27 TD passes. Bears DL Montez Sweat recorded 53 tackles, 10 sacks, 13 tackles for loss, three forced fumbles & a forced fumble in 2025.

Reigning NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Tetairoa McMillan burst on the scene in 2025, as the Panthers wideout accumulated 1,014 yards (leading all rookies) and caught 7 touchdown passes. Following a season split between Philadelphia and Miami in 2025, Panthers LB Jaelan Phillips is expected to play for the first time as a Carolina Panther on Sunday. Last season, Phillips put up 28 tackles, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery & four tackles for loss.

➨ Saints vs. Lions — Sunday, 1:00 PM ET on Fox & Fox One:
The 60th season of New Orleans Saints football begins in Motown, as Justin Reid and the Saints travel to Ford Field to face Amon-Ra St. Brown and the Detroit Lions on Sunday, September 13 at 1:00 PM ET on Fox & Fox One. The Saints finished last in the NFC South with a 6-11 record last year. As for the Lions, a solid 9-8 record wasn’t enough for Detroit to crack the NFC postseason field in 2025.

Kenny Albert (play-by-play) [the last original NFL on Fox play-by-play commentator from the network’s inaugural 1994 season], Super Bowl champion Jonathan Vilma (analyst) & Megan Olivi (field reporter) will be on the call for Fox’s Sunday Saints-Lions contest.

New Orleans is led on offense by QB Tyler Shough and WR Chris Olave, the latter of whom signed a contract extension. The Saints’ defense is led by two-time Super Bowl champion Justin Reid, along with Carl Granderson, Chase Young, and Cameron Jordan.

Lions head coach Dan Campbell starts his sixth season with the franchise in 2026. Lions RB Jahmyr Gibbs accounted for 243 rushes, 1,223 yards, and 13 rushing touchdowns last season.

➨ Buccaneers vs. Bengals — Sunday, 1:00 PM ET on Fox & Fox One:
Fresh off receiving a new three-year extension, Buccaneers QB1 Baker Mayfield leads the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as they oppose Bryan Cook and the Cincinnati Bengals in the season opener on Sunday, September 13 at 1:00 PM ET on Fox & Fox One. Tampa Bay didn’t make the postseason last year, despite being tied for first place in the NFC South with an 8-9 mark. After a hot start, Cincinnati faltered and ultimately went 6-11 in 2025, well short of expectations.

Kevin Kugler (play-by-play) & three-time Super Bowl champion Daryl “Moose” Johnston call Buccaneers-Bengals from the booth, joined by Allison Williams (reporter) down on the field.

Since becoming the Buccaneers’ quarterback in 2023, Baker Mayfield is undefeated in three Week 1 games (3-0). Buccaneers S Antoine Winfield Jr., a two-time Pro Bowl safety, needs just one interception to reach 10 for his career.

Bengals WR Ja’Marr Chase starts his sixth NFL season after being selected to the Pro Bowl in each of his first five. Sunday could mark the debut of newly signed Bengals DT Dexter Lawrence, coming over from the Giants during the offseason.

🞽 Doubleheader | Game 2 (America’s Game of the Week: Commanders at Eagles, Dolphins at Raiders) — 4:25 PM ET/3:25 PM CT:
The Week 1 NFL on Fox doubleheader kicks off with the season debut of America’s Game of the Week, beginning at 4:25 PM ET on Fox and Fox One. This week’s featured games include Jayden Daniels and the Washington Commanders facing Saquon Barkley and the Philadelphia Eagles, and Jeff Hafley’s NFL head-coaching debut as the Miami Dolphins go up against first-time NFL head coach Klint Kubiak and the Las Vegas Raiders. Read on for game summaries of #WSHvsPHI and #MIAvsLV.

➨ Commanders vs. Eagles — Sunday, 4:25 PM ET on Fox & Fox One:
Jalen Hurts and the defending two-time NFC East champion Philadelphia Eagles host Stefon Diggs and the Washington Commanders in Week 1 NFL action from Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on Sunday, September 13 at 4:25 PM ET on Fox & Fox One. The teams split their 2025 regular season matchups. Washington crashed down following an NFC Championship Game appearance in 2024, going 5-12 in 2025. Philadelphia qualified for the postseason as NFC East champions in 2025, going 11-6 before losing in a shocking Wild Card Round loss to the 49ers.

Beginning their third year together, Kevin Burkhardt (play-by-play), Tom Brady (analyst), Erin Andrews (sideline reporter) & Tom Rinaldi (reporter) provide commentary for the Commanders-Eagles game.

➨ Dolphins vs. Raiders — Sunday, 4:25 PM ET (1:25 PM PT) on Fox & Fox One:
Jordyn Brooks and the Miami Dolphins visit Ashton Jeanty and the Las Vegas Raiders in the season opener for both teams on Sunday, September 13 at 4:25 PM ET (1:25 PM PT) on Fox & Fox One. The Dolphins posted a 7-10 record in 2025, while the Raiders finished tied for the AFC’s worst record at 3-14 last season.

Chris Myers (play-by-play), three-time Super Bowl champion Mark Schlereth (analyst) & Jen Hale (reporter) team up to call the late-afternoon matchup from Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Dolphins QB (and Titans and Packers QB) Malik Willis is set to make his debut in Miami on Sunday, having accumulated 846 passing yards and seven total touchdowns — four rushing and three passing — over six career starts. He aims to achieve his third consecutive start with over 200 passing yards, a touchdown pass, a rushing touchdown, and a quarterback rating exceeding 120. Dolphins DL Zach Sieler recorded 47 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, one forced fumble, and one pass deflection in 2025. He has recorded tackles for loss in five of his last six games and contributed four tackles and a sack in their most recent encounter.

Since getting drafted in 2019, Raiders DE Maxx Crosby ranks first in tackles for loss (133), third in tackles (437), fourth in sacks (69.5), fourth in sacks (69.5) and fourth in quarterback hits (165). Raiders QB Kirk Cousins, who is set to start this game, has completed 66.7% of his passes during his 14-year NFL career.

🞽 Postgame: The OT — 7:30 PM ET/4:30 PM PT:

🞸 Pregame (12:00 PM ET) — The NFL Today (Live from Minneapolis):
Sunday’s Week 1 NFL on CBS coverage begins the 52nd season premiere of “The NFL Today”, the iconic pregame show that prepares viewers for upcoming football action on CBS. This week, the show goes on the road to Minneapolis, Minnesota, ahead of the NFC North showdown between the Green Bay Packers and the Minnesota Vikings (4:25 PM ET/3:25 PM CT).

Veteran host James Brown anchors the program, joined by Hall of Fame head coach Bill Cowher and 11-year NFL veteran Nate Burleson. This season, the program welcomes two new analysts — Super Bowl champion Russell Wilson and former NFL offensive lineman Kyle Long. “The NFL Today” will feature highlights, analysis, feature stories, predictions, interviews, and the latest information from around the league.

🞸 Early Games (1:00 PM ET) — Bills-Texans, Ravens-Colts, Jets-Titans & Browns-Jaguars:
To kick off the doubleheader, CBS will regionally televise four games in the early 1:00 PM ET window. Most of the country will see a riveting AFC clash as 2024 NFL MVP Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills square off against C.J. Stroud and the Houston Texans down in Houston. RB Derrick Henry and the Baltimore Ravens try to shake off a devastating end to the 2025 campaign as they open against three-time Pro Bowl running back Jonathan Taylor and the Indianapolis Colts in Indianapolis. Other games also include Jets-Titans and Browns-Jaguars. Check out the Week 1 CBS Early game capsules below.

⮞ Bills vs. Texans — Sunday, 1:00 PM ET on CBS & Paramount+:
Two-time Pro Bowler Will Anderson Jr. and the hungry Houston Texans open the franchise’s 25th season with a home game versus five-time Pro Bowler Dion Dawkins and the Buffalo Bills from the newly renamed Reliant Stadium in Houston, Texas on Sunday, September 13 at 1:00 PM ET (12:00 PM CT) on CBS & Paramount+. Both franchises made the postseason in 2025, with each club eliminated in the Divisional Round. The Bills lost a heartbreaking OT to the Broncos, 33-30, in the Divisional Playoffs while the Patriots handled the Texans, 28-16, in their divisional round match.

Ian Eagle (play-by-play) will call Bills-Texans from Houston, joined by new partner and former NFL offensive lineman Ross Tucker (analyst) and veteran sportscaster Evan Washburn (reporter), as they begin another year covering the NFL.

⮞ Ravens vs. Colts — Sunday, 1:00 PM ET on CBS & Paramount+:
AFC foes meet in the 2026 season opener at Indianapolis’ Lucas Oil Stadium when Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens battle Sauce Gardner and the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, September 13 at 1:00 PM ET on CBS & Paramount+. The Ravens missed the postseason with an 8-9 record last year, while the Colts crumbled to an 8-9 mark after a torrid 8-2 start in 2025. Crucial game for both teams as they look to put together a much-better product on the field this time around.

Sunday’s Ravens at Colts broadcast team on CBS features play-by-play announcer Andrew Catalon, analyst and two-time Super Bowl champion Logan Ryan, and sideline reporter AJ Ross.

Over the past eight seasons, the Ravens have punched their ticket to the playoffs six times. Additionally, Sunday marks the Ravens’ head-coaching debut for new coach Jesse Minter, who replaces longtime HC John Harbaugh (now the head coach of the New York Giants).

Colts RB Jonathan Taylor recorded 18 rushing touchdowns last year and compiled 1,585 rushing yards. Is Taylor primed for another Pro Bowl season in 2026? Colts S Cam Bynum led his team with a career-high four picks last year. Bynum is in his second year with Indianapolis following four seasons in Minnesota (2021-24). The Cal product was a fourth-round selection by the Minnesota Vikings in the 2021 NFL Draft (pick No. 125).

⮞ Jets vs. Titans — Sunday, 1:00 PM ET (12:00 PM CT) on CBS & Paramount+:
Demario Davis and the New York Jets start their 2026 season on the road at Nissan Stadium, visiting second-year signal-caller Cam Ward and the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, September 13 at 1:00 PM ET (12:00 PM CT) on CBS & Paramount+. Both of these teams are trying to move forward following terrible respective 3-14 campaigns a season ago.

Spero Dedes (play-by-play), Adam Archuleta (analyst) & Aditi Kinkhabwala (reporter) will have the call of Jets-Titans from Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee.

Jets WR Garrett Wilson is set to return on Sunday after his 2025 season was cut short by an injury. Before his injury, Garrett caught at least one pass in 57 consecutive games. Jets LB Demario Davis, a two-time Pro Bowler, is BACK in New York after the Jets originally drafted him with the No. 77 pick in the 2012 NFL Draft (Arkansas State). Davis spent the past eight seasons with the New Orleans Saints.

Titans WR Carnell Tate (rookie) could suit up for his NFL debut Sunday after Tennessee selected the former Ohio State wideout with the No. 4 pick of the 2026 NFL Draft. If he plays in Sunday’s opener, Titans DT Jeffery Simmons would make his 100th career appearance. Last year, Simmons set career highs in tackles (11) and tackles for loss (17).

⮞ Browns vs. Jaguars — Sunday, 1:00 PM ET on CBS & Paramount+:
Jared Verse and the Cleveland Browns visit Travis Hunter and the Jacksonville Jaguars as both AFC clubs begin their 2026 season on Sunday, September 13 at 1:00 PM ET on CBS & Paramount+. Last year, the Browns finished with a subpar 5-12 record. In 2025, Jacksonville won the AFC South title after a 13-4 regular season. However, Jacksonville was eliminated by Buffalo in the Wild Card Round, 27-24.

Tom McCarthy (play-by-play), Super Bowl champion Robert Turbin (analyst) & Tiffany Blackmon (sidelines) will announce the action for Browns-Jaguars from EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville, Florida.

Cleveland is looking for their fourth consecutive win vs. Jacksonville. The Browns defeated the Jaguars 18-13 in 2024 (their last meeting before Sunday’s contest). For the first time since 1986, Cleveland is opening the season with two consecutive games (Week 1 - at Jacksonville & Week 2 - at Tampa Bay).

Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence ranked fifth in 2025 with a career-high 29 touchdown passes. Jaguars DE Travon Walker recorded 8 tackles for loss during the 2025 campaign.

🞸 Late Games (4:25 PM ET) — Packers-Vikings, Cardinals-Chargers:
Following the early games, stay tuned for the late-afternoon slate on CBS, starting at 4:25 PM ET. In this window, NFC North foes face off as Christian Watson and the Green Bay Packers visit Justin Jefferson and the Minnesota Vikings, or Derwin James Jr. and the Los Angeles Chargers host the Arizona Cardinals. Read on for game capsules regarding CBS’ late afternoon Week 1 slate.

⮞ Packers vs. Vikings — Sunday, 4:25 PM ET (3:25 PM CT) on CBS & Paramount+:
Josh Metellus and the Minnesota Vikings welcome Jordan Love and the Green Bay Packers in a Week 1 NFC North matchup from U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota on Sunday, September 13 at 4:25 PM ET (3:25 PM CT) on CBS & Paramount+. Last year, Green Bay and Minnesota split their regular season series 1-1. Green Bay finished 2025 with a 9-7-1 record and made the playoffs, eventually losing 31-27 to the Bears in the Wild Card Round. Minnesota, meanwhile, finished 9-8 last season and missed the postseason cut.

Jim Nantz (play-by-play) will call Packers-Vikings alongside three-time Defensive Player of the Year winner JJ Watt (analyst), with Tracy Wolfson (reporter) roaming the sidelines. It should be noted that Watt is replacing Tony Romo, who is currently on leave from CBS Sports following an OWI arrest in Wisconsin earlier this year.

⮞ Cardinals vs. Chargers — Sunday, 4:25 PM ET (1:25 PM PT) on CBS & Paramount+:
Quentin Johnston and the Los Angeles Chargers open their 2026 home schedule at SoFi Stadium versus Marvin Harrison Jr. and the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, September 13 at 4:25 PM ET (1:25 PM PT) on CBS and Paramount+. Last year, the Cardinals finished the season with an abysmal 3-14 record. As for the Chargers, they went 11-6 and made the postseason as a Wild Card team. The Chargers would go on to lose 16-3 to the reigning AFC champion New England Patriots in the Wild Card Round.

Kevin Harlan (play-by-play), former NFL quarterback Trent Green (analyst) & Melanie Collins (sideline reporter) will have the Cardinals-Chargers television call for CBS Sports.

Cardinals RB Jeremiyah Love (rookie) could make his debut this weekend in Inglewood after Arizona selected the Notre Dame product with the No. 3 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. Since entering the NFL in 2017, Cardinals S Budda Baker has registered over 1,000 tackles, leading all safeties over that span. He is just one of five safeties to record 1,000 tackles since the year 2000.

Los Angeles is seeking their seventh Week 1 win in the past eight seasons. Chargers HC Jim Harbaugh tries to remain unbeaten in Week 1 games (6-0).
