2016 NFL on CBS Announcers

After awaiting the CBS Sports NFL folk to have their yearly seminar, the Columbia Broadcasting System (CBS) disclosed their announce teams for the 2016 season on Tuesday. Let's take a look.

Not a lot of changes, here. The big one to dial up is Brian Anderson, who worked NFL on CBS games the past few seasons. Anderson will no longer work NFL games. Probably because his of Turner Sports and Brewers commitments. Also, Nessler, coming over from ESPN, will work some games too. 

Nessler, of course, will become the SEC on CBS voice in 2017, taking over for Verne Lundquist (who will remain with the network in a more-reduced role). CBS will use reporters like Chris Fischer, Dana Jacobson, to work with the #4 through #8 teams throught the season.

The studio team remains intact with host James Brown, analysts Bill Cowher, Bart Scott, Tony Gonzalez, Boomer Esiasion, and insider Jason La Canfora.

2016 CFB on Fox Announcers

The Big Ten may be a year away but there is plenty of quality action to be witnessed this college football season on Fox and on FS1. And with that in mind, we now have the announcers crews that Fox will utilize this fall, with some changes. Let's take a look.

2016 - 2017 NBA on TNT Schedule

With the 2016-17 NBA schedule release on Thursday night, we now have the schedule for the NBA's longest-serving TV partner, TNT. This is the 33rd year of Turner Sports' coverage of the league, if you add some TBS years in the mid-80's. Back to TNT's status, it's their 28th season covering the league. TNT will NOT only have their famous Thursday Night doubleheaders, but due to the new TV deal kicking in, TNT will be busy showing games on a Monday night (I know, right). TNT's game total goes to 53 to 64. TNT will be the first network on the air when the season begins with a Tuesday, October 25th opening night doubleheader: LeBron James and the Cavs receive their championship rings and later host Carmelo Anthony, Derrick Rose, Joakim Noah, and the new-look Knicks at 7:30 pm ET. Then, at 10:30 pm ET, the Spurs and Warriors meet in the Bay Area in a Western Conference showdown. This game will mark the Warriors' debut of Kevin Durant (former MVP, coming over from the Thunder). TNT will have great action for you to watch all year.

2016 - 2017 NBA on ABC Schedule

 

With the 2016-17 NBA schedule release on Thursday, we have the schedule for NBA's longtime OTA partner, ABC. The NBA on ABC is in its 15th season (just like ESPN, its in second stint covering the league). With the new NBA national TV contracts taking effect starting this year, we have more NBA games on TV than other before. Now, On the 10 extra games between ABC/ESPN front, ABC will get 3 extra games, while ESPN will receive the other 7 extra games. ABC's regular-season coverage grows from 15 to 18. ABC's coverage, starts of course, with a Christmas Day doubleheader on Sunday, December 25th. Unstock your stockings and ABC will give you 2 wonderful games under your tree. The NBA Finals re-match for 2015 and 2016 will take place in "the Land" (as LeBron calls this) as the Cavs host Golden State at 2:30 pm, then Dwayne Wade and his-new look Bulls visit San Antonio for a match-up with the Spurs at 5:00 pm. Besides this, ABC will have Saturday Prime-time for a 2nd straight season (when you see GS/OKC, you know that's a must-see) and Sunday Showcases as well this year.

2016 - 2017 NBA on ESPN Schedule

With the 2016-17 NBA schedule released on Thursday, we now have the schedule for the NBA's second in command in the current cable TV landscape, ESPN. The NBA on ESPN will enter its 15th season (in ESPN's second stint covering the sport). There will be a bit more NBA for you to watch on ESPN this season. This is due to the new NBA national TV contracts that take effect this season. ESPN/ABC got 10 additional games as part of this new deal. 7 of those will land on ESPN, rising ESPN's regular season game coverage from 75 to 82. In addition, ESPN will debut a new brand-look in terms of graphics and presentation. Coverage will start on Wednesday, October 26th with a NBA Wednesday night doubleheader. First, the newly re-signed Russell Westbrook leads his Oklahoma City to the city of Brotherly Love where the 76ers wait; And #1 draft pick Ben Simmons will make his long waited debut (8:00 PM ET). Then, we head to big town LA when the Rockets and Lakers tangle (10:30 PM ET). Besides those, ESPN will have wonderful match-ups for your viewing pleasure all season long.

2016 NFL on Fox Announcers

When the calendar turns to August, and football turns into one of the top items of thought in our minds. We ask ourselves about the commentators will see work on our favorite team(s) games this season on Fox and CBS? We can now answer the Fox portion of this question. On Tuesday, Fox Sports released their full lineup of commentators for their upcoming 2016 NFL season (their 23rd season of NFL coverage) and a Super Bowl season as well for friends over at Big Fox. Here's goes nothing, for those of you who don't to read the release:

Let's start with the obvious should we. Joe Buck and Troy Aikman, Kevin Burkhardt and John Lynch, Kenny Albert and Daryl Johnston return as Fox's #1 (A), #2 (B), and #3 (C) teams respectively. Erin Andrews begins her first season as an NFL-only reporter. Pam Oliver begins her 22nd (and possibly last) season with Fox Sports. And Laura Okmin returns to full-time status this season after rotating games with Holly Sonders a year ago.

However, after the top 3 teams, that's where the changes began to arise. With Fox's firing of Tony Siragusa after last season, Fox replaces him with Fox NFL writer/reporter Peter Schrager. Schrager, of course, has worked on Fox's #7 or #8 team the last 3 seasons. Schrager, I think, is a very decent reporter, so he is very deserving a full-time gig like this. Schrager, recently joined NFL Network to host their new morning show "Good Morning Football". (Despite this, Schrager will continue his duties with Fox as well). Schrager will work with play-by-play commentator Thom Brennaman and analyst Charles Davis. Chris Spielman will work select games with the Brennaman-Davis crew when he is not scheduled to work with Dick Stockton.

The #5 team of Myers-Barber-Hale remains intact. Then, you look at #6, your first question is: Where's David Diehl? We will discuss Diehl's status a little bit. But, former Lions linebacker Chris Spielman (who worked from FSN in the late 1990's) re-joins this network this season to work with veteran announcer Dick Stockton (Stockton, along with Albert, are the only two announcers to work on Fox NFL's coverage full-time since its debut in 1994) and sideline reporter Kristina Pink. Spielman is coming over, from ESPN, where he worked on their college football coverage, most recently with former partner (now lead voice of Monday Night Football) Sean McDonough. Spielman, from the limited analysis I heard from him is very solid. Stockton, of course, is known as the "break-in" broadcaster. Stockton helped "break-in" Troy Aikman, Daryl Johnston, Charles Davis, John Lynch, Ronde Barber, among others. I think this team will be alright.

For my analysis at the bottom of the roster. For those of you who wanted the David Diehl question answered, here you go. Diehl will work Sam Rosen the #7 team. Rosen, of course, is a very good announcer on football and hockey. Diehl, I thought, didn't show very much as an analyst a season ago. As a result, Fox demoted him. Let's see if Diehl can bring a little bit more to the table this time around. Then, you have Shannon Spake (coming over from ESPN) and Holly Sounders rotate as reporters. Spake, is someone, who brings preparation and a wonderful attitude to this new job (Spake worked with Fox previously on some NASCAR stuff in the mid-2000's). Sonders, I thought, did OK on NFL assignments last year. This year, I expect a bit more from Sonders, however. (But cut her a break, she is still adjusting to NFL sideline reporting).

To wrap up our analysis, Fox will use Brady Quinn, Matt Millen, and Danielle Trotta on game analysis and sideline reports throught the season. I feel like, if Fox has 8 games in a given week, this might be the #8 team. Or Fox will rotate these folks around on the higher announcing teams. Well see. Well, that's my analysis. Can't wait to watch Fox games this season to hear these announcers.

2016 - 2017 NHL on NBC Schedule

NBC Sports Group announced Thursday the upcoming schedule for the 2016-2017 NHL season. And NBCSG will really be airing NHL games, will they? 106 games (a record-high since NBC Sports Group acquired U.S. television rights in 2005) are scheduled to be shown across NBCSN and NBC this year. 14 of those 106 contests will be aired OTA on the main NBC channel. Of course, the Black Friday Showdown, Winter Classic from St. Louis, and NBC Game of the Week contests are back. Besides those, NBC will have good matchups for your viewing pleasure all season long.
