- A consequential AFC showdown is on the Week 9 docket as Javonte Williams and the Denver Broncos (5-3) visit Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens (5-3). The lead NFL on CBS team of play-by-play commentator Jim Nantz, analyst and former NFL quarterback Tony Romo, and reporter Tracy Wolfson will be on-site in Baltimore for the 1:00 PM (ET) kickoff.
- Three of top 10 2024 NFL Draft picks are set to share the stage at State Farm Stadium as 2024 NFL Draft #1 overall pick Caleb Williams, 2024 NFL Draft #9 overall pick Rome Odunze and the Chicago Bears (4-3) travel out west to play 2024 NFL Draft #4 overall pick Marvin Harrison Jr. and the surging Arizona Cardinals (4-4) on Sunday, November 3 at 4:05 PM (ET) on CBS.
Hello, everybody! I hope you enjoyed your extra hour of sleep with the arrival of Standard Time. We are now at the midway point of this 2024 NFL season, and CBS Sports is set to provide more coverage of the NFL this Sunday, November 3, with regional coverage all afternoon long. In Week #9, CBS will televise one of the following six games in your local market - Dolphins at Bills (1:00 PM ET), Broncos at Ravens (1:00 PM ET), Chargers at Browns (1:00 PM ET), Saints at Panthers (1:00 PM ET), Jaguars at Eagles (4:05 PM ET) & Bears at Cardinals (4:05 PM ET). Please read on to learn additional details about this week's NFL on CBS coverage.
The "marquee" game on CBS this week is a critical AFC matchup from Baltimore's M&T Bank Stadium featuring a pair of 5-3 teams. Courtland Sutton and the Denver Broncos look to continue their recent success against Derrick Henry and the Baltimore Ravens, winners of five of their last six games following a dismal 0-2 start. Jim Nantz, Tony Romo, and Tracy Wolfson handle the early afternoon CBS call (1:00 PM ET).
As always, NFL coverage on CBS is preceded by "The NFL Today" pregame show at 12:00 PM (ET). Veteran studio host James Brown hosts the one-hour program, with a strong cast of analysts, including former NFL wide receiver Nate Burleson, 2016 NFL MVP and four-time Pro Bowler Matt Ryan, Hall of Fame head coach Bill Cowher & three-time Defensive Player of the Year winner JJ Watt. To complete the on-air talent roster, lead Jonathan Jones shares the latest news & information from around the NFL.
Once "The NFL Today" is complete, CBS will send viewers to the NFL game sites for the early afternoon games (for markets permitted to receive a game in this window), beginning at 1:00 PM (ET). Four games will be regionalized during this time, including Chargers at Browns, Saints at Panthers, Broncos at Ravens & Dolphins at Bills. Check out quick summaries of each 1:00 PM ET matchup below.
A matchup with high significance is set to unfold in Baltimore as Patrick Surtain II and the Denver Broncos (5-3) make a trip to the Eastern Time Zone to line up against the (reigning) 2023 NFL MVP Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens (5-3) on Sunday, November 3 at 1:00 PM (ET) on CBS. Both teams are currently on similar trajectories, winners of five of six following a ugly 0-2 start. The winner increases their chances for qualifying for the postseason with a 6-3 mark at the halfway point. The Broncos rank third in the league in scoring defense (15 points per game). The Ravens possess the top offense in the AFC (30.3 points per game). Broncos rookie QB Bo Nix set career-high marks in completions, comp pct., pass yards & TD passes last week in the Broncos' 28-14 win over the Panthers. Ravens QB Lamar Jackson became the first quarterback in NFL history with at least 500 rushing yards in seven straight years last week in a shocking 29-24 loss to the Browns. 🎙 CBS' top team of Jim Nantz (play-by-play), Tony Romo (analyst) & Tracy Wolfson (reporter) head to M&T Bank Stadium to call this high-stakes AFC showdown.
Two divisional rivals from the AFC East will oppose each other for the second and final time this regular season as Jalen Ramsey and the Miami Dolphins (2-5) take on Dorian Williams and the Buffalo Bills (6-2) on Sunday, November 3 at 1:00 PM (ET) on CBS. As you know, this has been a disastrous season for the Dolphins, thanks in large part to a concussion that sidelined starting QB Tua Tagovailoa for four games, prior to his return last week vs. the Cardinals. Despite Miami's subpar year, they are still alive in the playoff picture at this stage, sitting just two games back from a Wild Card spot. Miami has to WIN in order to keep their season alive. As for the Bills, the team is looking to capture their fifth consecutive AFC East title (2020-present). Josh Allen has provided Buffalo with consistent and solid quarterback play through eight games, throwing for 14 touchdowns and only tossing one interception so far. If Bills head coach Sean McDermott wins on Sunday, he will become the 13th head coach all-time to win 80 games in his first eight seasons as a head coach. 🎙 The iconic play-by-play commentator Kevin Harlan, analyst and former NFL quarterback Trent Green and sideline reporter Melanie Collins team up for Sunday's Dolphins-Bills call on CBS.
Rookie wide receiver Ladd McConkey and the Los Angeles Chargers (4-3) have a East Coast road game to play this week, as they confront Nick Chubb and the struggling Cleveland Browns (2-6) on Sunday, November 3 at 1:00 PM (ET) on CBS. The Chargers are one of three teams in the AFC West to have a winning record entering Week #9 with the undefeated Chiefs (7-0) and the 5-3 Broncos being the other two teams. The Chargers play the third of five games in the Eastern Time Zone this season (with two more coming up: Week 13 at the Falcons & Week 17 at the Patriots). Chargers LB Khalil Mack registered a sack last week during a dominant 26-8 win over the Saints. The Browns played with a heavy heart in Week 8, as the team competed in their first game without their legendary, iconic, and unmistakable voice Jim Donovan, who passed away on Saturday following a 24-year battle with leukemia (RIP, Jim 🕊). However, thanks to Browns QB Jameis Winston, the Browns pulled off a shocking upset over the Ravens, 29-24. 🎙 Play-by-play commentator Spero Dedes and analyst Adam Archuleta follow the action from the booth with reporter Aditi Kinkhabwala keeping viewers updated throughout the broadcast.
Two diabolical teams from the NFC South are set to clash in a mid-season game as Demario Davis and the New Orleans Saints (2-6) visit Miles Sanders and the Carolina Panthers (1-7) on Sunday, November 3 at 1:00 PM (ET) on CBS. The Saints are a poor football team, as the team has dropped six consecutive games following a 2-0 start. Injuries are certainly not helping their cause too much. Saints RB Alvin Kamara had 6 catches & 122 scrimmage yards (67 rushing, 55 receiving) vs. the Chargers in Week 8. For the Panthers, it's another lost season for a franchise struggling to find direction. Panthers CB Jaycee Horn has a career-high nine pass deflected & looks for his sixth straight matchup with at least one pass deflection. 🎙 Sunday's Saints-Panthers game is a national CBS broadcast, with Tom McCarthy (play-by-play), former NFL kicker Jay Feely (analyst) & Amanda Balionis (reporter) to set to cover the action live.
Later on, CBS will send out an NFL singleheader contest at 4:05 PM (ET) for certain stations/markets that must wait until that time period due to an early game (1:00 PM ET) on FOX. Two games will be scheduled for 4:05 PM (ET) starts on CBS this week, including Bears at Cardinals and Jaguars at Eagles. We will set you up for Jaguars-Eagles and Bears-Cardinals in future paragraphs.
2024 NFL Draft #1 overall pick Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears (4-3) will attempt to put last week's heartbreaking loss to the Commanders behind them as they head to the desert to match up with James Conner and the Arizona Cardinals (4-4) on Sunday, October 3 at 4:05 PM (ET) on CBS. We have two very surprising teams in the NFC clashing at State Farm Stadium this week. Following a bad 1-2 start, it seemed like the Bears had found their footing. Of course, last week, the Bears lost in the most devastating way possible - a 52-yard hail mary touchdown pass from Commanders QB Jayden Daniels to Commanders WR Noah Brown. Now, can Chicago bounce back and shake that one off? Jalen Thompson and the Cardinals, meanwhile, are finally catching some steam as the team has now won three of their past four games. This might seem crazy but the Cardinals are currently TIED (!!) for first place in the NFC West, so this game takes on an elevated significance for them. 🎙 Sunday's Bears-Cardinals game will be nationally televised on CBS, featuring the broadcast team of Ian Eagle (play-by-play), Charles Davis (analyst) & Evan Washburn (reporter).
Josh Hines-Allen (leads Jaguars with 3 sacks) and the Jacksonville Jaguars (2-6) hit the road this week to do battle with Brandon Graham and the Philadelphia Eagles (5-2), winners of three straight, on Sunday, November 3 at 4:05 PM (ET) on CBS. The Jaguars have been terrible on the road, dropping four road contests in 2024. The Jaguars are coming off a heartbreaking 30-27 loss to the Packers at EverBank Stadium last week. The Jaguars check in at No. 31 in terms of total defense, which is second worst in the NFL, only ahead of the Carolina Panthers. Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence has 11 passing touchdowns and four interceptions so far this season. The Eagles are flocking to new levels right now as the team looks for their fourth straight win, following wins over the Browns, Giants & Bengals. Eagles QB Jalen Hurts had 4 touchdowns last week in a 37-17 win over the Bengals (3 rushing, 1 passing). Eagles WR DeVonta Smith looks to catch a touchdown pass at home for the third straight time (Week 2 vs. Falcons & Week 6 vs. the Bengals). 🎙 CBS will televise Sunday's Jaguars-Eagles game, with Andrew Catalon handling play-by-play, Super Bowl champion Jason McCourty and former NFL running back Tiki Barber serving as co-analysts & AJ Ross reporting from the field.
