The dog days of summer ☀ are quickly approaching, as the NBA: Summer Series begins the 11th week of the regular season. The regular season slate is beginning to wind down, with roughly one month left in the regular season following the conclusion of this week's slate.
The NBA: Summer Series resumes this week with eight nationally televised across the ESPN family of networks (three on ABC, five on ESPN), beginning on Wednesday, July 31 with a split quadrupleheader across ABC and ESPN.
Wednesday's coverage begins with NBA Countdown at 2:30 PM (ET) on ABC, previewing the ABC tripleheader scheduled for that day. Host Malika Andrews leads the program, with analyst and three-time NBA champion Danny Green, analyst Austin Rivers, and 2016 NBA champion Tristan Thompson. Ramona Shelburne rounds out the cast as the "insider". In addition to Countdown, the crew will handle halftime, studio wraps, and the NBA: After the Buzzer postgame show, which will air at 1:00 AM (ET) on ESPN, following the Heat vs. Lakers game.
The game action for Wednesday starts off at 3:00 PM (ET) on ABC, when Bobby Portis and the current Central Division leader Milwaukee Bucks clash with Tyrese Haliburton and the Indiana Pacers in a Central Division rivalry. Milwaukee is comfortably in the playoff picture, while Indiana looks to grab one of the East's top six seeds. Grayson Singleton calls the play-by-play alongside 2024 NBA Champion Jayson Tatum and Jermaine Samuels, with lead reporter Michelle Kuc handling the sidelines.
The ABC tripleheader continues at 5:30 PM (ET) when Paul George and the Los Angeles Clippers take the court to face Kevin Durant and the Phoenix Suns. The Suns are looking to get out of the play-in tournament while the Clippers try to nail down a top four seed in the Western Conference. Teagan Brown provides commentary with Hall of Famer and analyst Doris Burke, analyst and three-time WNBA champion Candace Parker, and reporter Isaiah Walker.
In primetime (8:00 PM ET), ABC will present a Eastern Conference matchup as DeMar DeRozan and the Chicago Bulls face off with Jalen Brunson and the New York Knicks, with the #2 team of David Moskowitz, Breanna Stewart, Kris Jenkins and Susan Reutter on the call. Then, the four-game Wednesday slate wraps up on ESPN at 10:30 PM (ET), when Bam Adebayo and the Miami Heat travel to Los Angeles to play four-time NBA champion LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers. The Lakers are vying for a top six spot in the Western Conference, while Miami tries to wrestle away the #4 seed and the Southeast Division title from the challenging Orlando Magic. Curtis Stockley calls the action with analyst Justin Moore and reporter Jorge Sedano.
On Thursday night (August 1), ESPN presents a primetime doubleheader with NBA Countdown tipping off the night's coverage at 7:00 PM (ET), with host Sam Prince, Hall of Famer Shaquille O'Neal, three-time Sixth Man of the Year winner Jamal Crawford, Skylar Diggins-Smith and insider Kendra Andrews. Besides the pregame, this team will also cover halftime, studio wraps, and the NBA: After the Buzzer postgame show, which will start at 12:30 AM (ET) on ESPN following the Nuggets vs. Warriors game.
Thursday's first game (7:30 PM ET) has Khris Middleton and the Milwaukee Bucks colliding with the 2023 NBA Drat #1 overall pick Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs. The Bucks are looking good as the team looks to secure yet another postseason appearance. Legendary commentator Kevin Harlan is on play-by-play duties, with analyst Cam Whitmore and reporter Stephanie Ready joining Harlan for the call.
The late 10:00 PM (ET) game on ESPN has the last two Summer Series champions as Jamal Murray and the defending Summer Series champion Denver Nuggets battle Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors. The Nuggets look to keep pace with Minnesota for the #1 seed in the West while the Warriors try to stay competitive in a super good Western Conference. Naismith Hall of Famer Mike Breen (play-by-play) describes the action with analyst and 15-year NBA veteran JJ Redick with Lisa Salters on the sidelines.
This week's broadcast schedule then wraps up with a Friday night (August 2) doubleheader on ESPN. NBA Countdown serves as a prelude to the evening's action, starting at 7:00 PM (ET), with Malika Andrews, Austin Rivers, Danny Green, Tristan Thompson & Ramona Shelburne once again manning the desk. The studio group can also be seen at halftime, during studio wraps, and during the NBA: After the Buzzer postgame show recapping the night's activity, starting at 12:30 AM (ET) on ESPN, following the Grizzlies vs. Lakers game.
Josh Hart and the New York Knicks make their second ESPN appearance of the week as they make a short trip to Philadelphia to square off against emerging star Tyrese Maxey and the Philadelphia 76ers at 7:30 PM (ET). Both teams are firmly in the East playoff picture. ESPN play-by-play commentator Teagan Brown and analyst Jermaine Samuels call the game from the booth, with Isaiah Walker completing the team as the sideline reporter.
Closing out the evening, at 10:00 PM (ET) on ESPN, LeBron James, the NBA's all-time leading scorer, and the Los Angeles Lakers continue their quest for a playoff spot in a ultra-competitive Western Conference when they host Jaren Jackson Jr. and the Memphis Grizzlies. The trio of Curtis Stockley, Justin Moore & Jorge Sedano call their second game together of the week with this Grizzlies-Lakers assignment.
