The 2024 Summer Series preseason is winding down, and ESPN and ABC will combine for nine preseason telecasts this week to conclude coverage of the 2024 preseason schedule before the regular season opens up on Tuesday, May 21.
On Tuesday, May 14, this week's schedule begins with a preseason doubleheader on ESPN. Tuesday night's coverage begins with a one-hour NBA Countdown presented by Target at 7:00 PM ET. ESPN NBA host Joshua Counts will anchor the program alongside ESPN NBA analyst Monica McNutt and ESPN NBA insider Dave McMenamin. The team will return following the Nuggets vs. Clippers game for the NBA: After the Buzzer presented by Google postgame show, starting at 1:00 AM ET (Wednesday morning) on ESPN.
Tuesday's ESPN doubleheader begins at 8:00 PM ET with a battle of two #1 overall picks in recent NBA drafts. Zion Williamson, who was the #1 overall pick in 2019, leads his New Orleans Pelicans into the Sunshine State for a preseason matchup with Paolo Banchero, who was the #1 overall pick in 2022, and the Orlando Magic. Curtis Stockley, five-time All-Star Jayson Tatum & reporter Derryl Barnes will provide commentary.
At 10:30 PM ET, two-time MVP Nikola Jokić and the defending NBA Summer Series champions Denver Nuggets visits Paul George, James Harden and the Los Angeles Clippers. Grayson Singleton, Naismith Basketball Hall of Famer Doris Burke and reporter Kaylee Hartung have the call on ESPN.
On Wednesday, May 15, ESPN presents a Wednesday night preseason doubleheader. Coverage of Wednesday's doubleheader begins at 6:30 PM ET with NBA Countdown presented by Target, hosted by Malika Andrews. Andrews will be joined by ESPN NBA analysts Danny Green, Austin Rivers and ESPN NBA Insider/Reporter Ramona Shelburne. Longtime ESPN analyst/commentator Stephen A. Smith joins the cast as a guest analyst for Wednesday's coverage. The group returns to recap the evening's action on the NBA: After the Buzzer presented by Google postgame show at 12:00 AM ET (Thursday morning) on ESPN, following the Rockets vs. Spurs game.
Wednesday's ESPN doubleheader begins at 7:00 PM ET as Jordan Poole and the Washington Wizards battle Jalen Brunson and the New York Knicks. David Moskowitz will provide play-by-play, alongside analyst and three-time WNBA Champion Candace Parker and reporter Angel Gray.
At 9:30 PM ET, Victor Wembanyama - the #1 overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft - leads his San Antonio Spurs into a preseason encounter with Jabari Smith Jr. and the Houston Rockets. Play-by-play commentator Rich Waltz and analyst Kenyatta Moore will describe the action from San Antonio on ESPN.
On Friday, May 17, ABC and ESPN will blend together to present five preseason games on the final day of the 2024 preseason. Friday's action starts off at 12:00 PM ET on ABC and ESPN with NBA Countdown presented by Target. Malika Andrews hosts the program with analysts Austin Rivers, Danny Green, Tristan Thompson and reporter/insider Ramona Shelburne. The team is set to offer a final word on Friday's contests on the NBA: After the Buzzer presented by Google postgame show, at 1:00 AM ET (Saturday) morning on ESPN.
Friday's game coverage begins at 12:30 PM ET on ABC and ESPN with a Central Division preseason showdown as Donovan Mitchell and the Cleveland Cavaliers battle Tyrese Haliburton and the Indiana Pacers. Curtis Stockley and CJ McCollum call the game, with Jorge Sedano reporting. Then, at 3:00 PM ET, on ABC and ESPN, Bam Adebayo and the defending Eastern Conference champions Miami Heat visit Jalen Green and the Houston Rockets. Dane Richardson handles the play-by-play, joined by analyst, two-time All-Star and the newest member of the Summer Series family, Tyrese Haliburton & with Michelle Kuc providing updates from the sideline.
Following the two games on ABC and ESPN, ESPN will then take over for the final three games of Friday's slate. The 5:30 PM ET contest on ESPN sees Kyle Kuzma and the Washington Wizards taking on Scottie Barnes and the Toronto Raptors. David Moskowitz, Candace Parker & Angel Gray return to provide commentary for their second game of the week.
A primetime battle in Philadelphia takes place at 8:00 PM ET on ESPN as Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers host Trae Young and the Atlanta Hawks. Seasoned play-by-play commentator Teagan Brown, Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards, Memphis Grizzlies forward/center Jaren Jackson Jr. & sideline reporter Susan Reutter team up to call the action.
ESPN's Friday night game coverage (and preseason coverage for that matter) wraps up at 10:30 PM ET as Devin Vassell and the San Antonio Spurs duel with four-time champion Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors. ESPN NBA commentator Grayson Singleton provides commentary with analyst Justin Moore and reporter Isaiah Walker.
