Hi, everyone! Welcome to the start of the 2026 NBA Playoffs, presented by Google! After Friday’s final Play-In Tournament games, it’s time to raise the curtain on this year’s NBA Playoffs, featuring 16 teams vying to win the Larry O’Brien Trophy, including the reigning NBA champion Oklahoma City Thunder. The playoffs open on Saturday, October 10, with four Game 1 matchups across Prime Video (three games) and ABC (the Timberwolves-Nuggets game in the evening). Notable Round 1 storylines include: KD vs. Bron, Ant vs. the Joker, the Knicks playing the Hawks, & Donovan Mitchell and the Cavs trying to make a deep postseason run.

This is the first NBA Playoffs under the new Summer Series broadcasting arrangement. NBC/Peacock/NBCSN and Prime Video join ABC and ESPN in broadcasting NBA playoff games. During the first and second rounds, these networks will jointly televise/stream matchups. When the Conference Finals start, ESPN/ABC will exclusively cover the Eastern Conference Finals, while NBC/Peacock will broadcast the Western Conference Finals. ABC will continue its exclusive coverage of the NBA Finals, airing the entire series for the 24th straight season.

Let’s preview this weekend’s slate of Game 1 matchups, alongside some key storylines.

Saturday, October 10:

(Knicks vs. Hawks | Game 1 - Saturday, 1:00 PM ET on Prime Video)

(Timberwolves vs. Nuggets | Game 1 - Saturday, 8:30 PM ET on ABC)

⏵ (E6) Atlanta Hawks vs. (E3) New York Knicks | First Round, Game 1 | Saturday, 1:00 PM ET on Prime Video:
Two Eastern Conference clubs are set to tip off this year’s NBA playoff action as CJ McCollum and the Atlanta Hawks (No. 6 seed) visit Jalen Brunson and the New York Knicks (No. 3 seed) in Game 1 of this Eastern Conference Quarterfinals on Saturday, October 10 at 1:00 PM ET on Prime Video. Atlanta brings their duo of Jalen Johnson & Nickeil Alexander-Walker to this affair, while the Knicks counter with their dynamic duo Jalen Brunson & Karl-Anthony Towns.

Saturday’s Hawks-Knicks playoff game will be televised on Prime Video, with Eric Collins calling play-by-play alongside analyst Dell Curry, and 16-year NBA veteran, and courtside reporter Kristina Pink.

At one point, the Hawks ripped off 18 wins in a 20-game stretch during the regular season, which saw Atlanta capture their first top-six seed in the Eastern Conference since 2021, the year that they defeated the Knicks en route to an Eastern Conference Finals appearance.

The Knicks clipped the Hawks 2-1 in the regular-season series. One of the Knicks’ wins over Atlanta halted a 13-game home winning streak, their longest since 1997.

⏵ (W7) Portland Trail Blazers vs. (W2) San Antonio Spurs | First Round, Game 1 | Saturday, 3:30 PM ET (2:30 PM CT) on Prime Video:
In the second game of the day, Scoot Henderson and the Portland Trail Blazers (No. 7 seed), in their first NBA Playoffs since 2021, take on two-time NBA All-Star Victor Wembanyama and the Southwest Division champion San Antonio Spurs (No. 2 seed) in Game 1 of the best-of-seven opening round series on Saturday, October 10 at 3:30 PM ET/2:30 PM CT on Prime Video. This series is unexpected because NOBODY expected Portland to be in the playoff field this soon, while San Antonio FINALLY returns to being a West contender after years of struggles. This is the fifth playoff meeting between the Spurs and Trail Blazers, with San Antonio winning three of the first four postseason encounters.

Game 1 of the Trail Blazers-Spurs series on Prime Video will be called by Kevin Harlan (play-by-play), Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famers Dwyane Wade (analyst) and Candace Parker (analyst), & Allie Clifton (courtside reporter).

Trail Blazers F Deni Avdija put together some outstanding All-NBA-type numbers this year: career-highs in points per game (24.2), free-throw percentage (80.2%), and assists (6.7). Portland has an exciting roster now and some promise for the future.

Of course, Victor Wembanyama is playing in his first-ever playoff series. In his third NBA season, Wembanyama excelled, placing himself firmly in the MVP and Defensive Player of the Year conversation. This year, Wemby averaged 25 points, 11. 5 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 3.1 blocks, 1 steal, and shot 52% from the field.

⏵ (E7) Philadelphia 76ers vs. (E2) Boston Celtics | First Round, Game 1 | Saturday, 6:00 PM ET on Prime Video:
Longtime Atlantic Division rivals meet again in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals as Tyrese Maxey and the Philadelphia 76ers (No. 7 seed) battle Jayson Tatum and the Atlantic Division champion Boston Celtics (No. 2 seed) on Saturday, October 10 at 6:00 PM ET on Prime Video. During the regular season, the four-game series was evenly split, with each team winning twice.

Prime Video’s Game 1 Celtics-76ers broadcast features Beth Mowins (play-by-play), Jim Jackson (analyst) & Jacob Hardie (sideline reporter).

The 76ers are back in the NBA Playoffs after missing them in 2025 with a dismal 24-58 record. The 76ers defeated the Magic, 109-97, on Tuesday night to capture the No. 7 seed and set up this first-round series with the Celtics. Philly tries to FINALLY vanquish the Celtics in the playoffs for the first time since 1982.

The Celtics once again appear in the NBA Playoffs, which is typical for a franchise built on success and winning. Boston is in the NBA Playoffs for the 12th consecutive season, which is the longest current streak in the league. For the fifth straight season, Boston is either No. 1 or No. 2 in the Eastern Conference. Despite the devastating injury to Jayson Tatum (Achilles), Boston was able to persevere and make it through the regular season with a 56-26 record.

⏵ (W6) Minnesota Timberwolves vs. (W3) Denver Nuggets | First Round, Game 1 | Saturday, 8:30 PM ET (6:30 PM MT) on ABC, ESPN App:
A budding Western Conference rivalry is renewed again in the First Round, as Naz Reid and the Minnesota Timberwolves (No. 6 seed) meet Jamal Murray and the Denver Nuggets (No. 3 seed) in Game 1 of the Western Conference Quarterfinals on Saturday, October 10 at 8:30 PM ET/6:30 PM MT on ABC, ESPN Radio, and the ESPN App. Anthony Edwards vs. Nikola Jokić in the latest chapter of this rising Timberwolves-Nuggets playoff rivalry, with the clubs meeting for the third time in the last four seasons.

The NBA Finals broadcast team of Curtis Stockley, Tim Legler, Richard Jefferson, and Michelle Kuc is set for the ABC primetime call, while Tamir Moore, Stephanie White, 2026 NBA Champion Mikal Bridges, James Alexander & Charmaine Malone announce the action on ESPN Radio.

After the Game 7 dub in 2024, Minnesota was able to defeat Denver in the next four games. The Nuggets then responded with three straight wins to kick off this season.

The Timberwolves claimed victory in the last meeting between the sides, with seven of eight active players scoring 9+ points, overpowering Nikola Jokić (35 points, 13 rebounds, 9 assists) and Jamal Murray (25 points).

Sunday, October 11:

Sunday’s playoff schedule begins in Cleveland, with a riveting Eastern Conference showdown as two-time NBA All-Star Scottie Barnes leads the No. 5 seed Toronto Raptors against NBA All-Star Jarrett Allen and the No. 4 seed Cleveland Cavaliers on Sunday, October 11 at 1:00 PM ET on ABC, ESPN Radio, and the ESPN App. One of the league’s top-rated offenses, the Cavaliers, greets the Raptors’ well-shaped and dynamic unit.

Cleveland improved in the transition game during the third meeting — 22-21. Cleveland is searching for their Eastern Conference Finals berth since 2018. The Cavaliers are back in the playoffs for the fourth consecutive year.

⏵ (W5) Houston Rockets vs. (W4) Los Angeles Lakers | First Round, Game 1 | Sunday, 3:30 PM ET (12:30 PM PT) on ABC, ESPN App:
The Sunday Game 1 playoff doubleheader on ABC continues from Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, as Kevin Durant and LeBron James begin their fourth playoff series head-to-head as the Houston Rockets (No. 5 seed) come marauding in to play the Pacific Division champion Los Angeles Lakers (No. 4 seed) on Sunday, October 11 at 3:30 PM ET/12:30 PM PT on ABC, ESPN Radio, and the ESPN App. James and Durant are the first pair of active players in the 30,000-point club to ever play against each other in a playoff series. The Lakers won two of the three meetings during the regular season.

ABC’s Game 1 Rockets-Lakers broadcast team consists of Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famers Mike Breen (play-by-play) and Doris Burke (analyst), joined by courtside reporter Lisa Salters. Over on ESPN Radio, Kelvin Hutchinson (play-by-play), PJ Carlesimo (analyst), & Malika Andrews (courtside reporter) narrate the radio broadcast.

⏵ (E8) Orlando Magic vs. (E1) Detroit Pistons | First Round, Game 1 | Sunday, 7:00 PM ET on NBC/Peacock:
Sunday’s evening session begins with Game 1 of this best-of-seven Eastern Conference Quarterfinals as Cade Cunningham and the top-seeded Detroit Pistons (No. 1 seed) host Paolo Banchero and the Orlando Magic (No. 8 seed) on Sunday, October 11 at 7:00 PM ET on NBC and Peacock. The teams split their four regular-season meetings this season.

In the booth, Noah Eagle (play-by-play) is paired with Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer Grant Hill (analyst), plus Ashley ShahAhmadi (reporter) will handle the reporting duties throughout the game.

The Magic jump into the first round after a Play-In demolition of the Hornets in Friday’s 8th-place game, locking up the conference’s final available playoff berth. Orlando enters their third straight NBA Playoffs. Paolo Banchero has averaged 28 points per game over 12 career playoff games and fueled Orlando’s play-in win over the Hornets on Friday with 25 points (including 12 in the first quarter). Desmond Bane has contributed to the Magic’s overall success in his first year with the club following his acquisition from the Grizzlies, leading the team in total points (1647) and total 3s (167).

The Pistons start their postseason schedule following their first 60+ win season since 2007. Detroit, who leads the league in steals (10.4) and blocks (6.4) per game, brings a tough and robust defensive presence to the floor as the Pistons try to make the NBA Finals for the first time since 2005. Detroit boasts a duo of NBA All-Stars in Cade Cunningham and Jalen Duren.

⏵ (W8) Phoenix Suns vs. (W1) Oklahoma City Thunder | First Round, Game 1 | Sunday, 9:30 PM ET (8:30 PM CT) on NBC/Peacock:
The last First Round series to begin features Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the defending NBA Summer Series champion Oklahoma City Thunder (No. 1 seed) as they begin their quest to repeat against Dillon Brooks and the Phoenix Suns (No. 8 seed) in Game 1 of the Western Conference Quarterfinals on Sunday, October 11 at 9:30 PM ET on NBC and Peacock.

Mike Tirico (play-by-play), Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer Reggie Miller (analyst) & Zora Stephenson (sideline reporter) will join forces to call Game 1 of the Suns-Thunder series.

The Suns have one of the league’s best defensive groups (112.9, 9th). Devin Booker, the Suns’ all-time leading scorer, joins forces with Jalen Green, who enters the playoffs fresh off back-to-back 35+-point performances in Phoenix’s two Play-In Tournament games.

Oklahoma City launches its mission of becoming the first team since the 2017-18 Warriors to win consecutive NBA championships. Seven different champions have won the title in the years since. The Thunder are the youngest champions in 50 years and hold the league’s best defensive rating (106.5) since the 2019-20 Milwaukee Bucks. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who is the reigning MVP, is the first player to average 30+ points on 55% shooting. SGA ranks first in clutch points with 175.
