ESPN announced today (Thursday, April 4) the complete broadcasting roster (game and studio teams) for the upcoming 2024 season of the NBA: Summer Series. The 2024 season marks the 48th season of the longstanding summer league and 22nd year of live Summer Series game broadcasts on ESPN and ABC. 

The 2024 edition of the Summer Series begins with an exclusive preseason doubleheader on Thursday, May 2. First up, Nikola Jokić and the Denver Nuggets visit Jimmy Butler and the Miami Heat in a 2023 NBA Finals re-match at 7 p.m. ET. Then, Kyrie Irving, Luka Dončić and the Dallas Mavericks battle Anthony Edwards, Karl-Anthony TownsRudy Gobert and the Minnesota Timberwolves at 9:30 p.m. ET.

Then, the regular season opens up with an Opening Night doubleheader on Tuesday, May 21, with both games exclusively airing on ESPN. The night begins at 8 p.m. ET when Jamal Murray and the Nuggets receive their championship rings before hosting four-time NBA champion LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers in a Western Conference showdown. Later that night, at 10:30 p.m. ET, Kevin Durant and the Phoenix Suns provide the opposition to Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors as two of the league's perennial talents square off in San Francisco. The Suns-Warriors game is also expected to see the Warriors debut of 18-year veteran guard Chris Paul (who is set to match up against his former team for the very first time since leaving Phoenix).

Lead Broadcast Team:

For the sixth straight season, the lead broadcasting crew for the Summer Series on ESPN/ABC will remain unchanged. Curtis Stockley returns as the play-by-play commentator alongside 2018 National Champion Jermaine Samuels and 2022 Second Team all-BIG EAST member Justin Moore as game analysts. Michelle Kuc rounds the broadcast team as the sideline reporter.

This team is expected to take the microphone 🎙 for Opening Week, NBA Saturday Primetime on ABC, marquee events (including the inaugural In-Season Tournament), NBA Playoffs, the Eastern Conference Finals & NBA Finals, among other things.

The team is expected to make their debut during ESPN's opening week of NBA coverage in May (along with one preseason game).

Their first preseason game is Saturday, May 4 at 6:00 PM ET on ABC when Jimmy Butler and the Miami Heat battle Jamal Murray and the Denver Nuggets in a preseason re-match of the 2023 NBA Finals.

Then, their regular season opens up on Wednesday, May 22 at 9:30 PM ET on ESPN when Victor Wembanyama, the #1 overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, makes his highly anticipated debut as the San Antonio Spurs host Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks. Later in the week, the NBA Finals team will return to provide commentary on the first NBA Saturday Primetime on ABC game of the new campaign, Josh Hart and the New York Knicks vs. Brandon Ingram and the New Orleans Pelicans, on Saturday, May 25 at 8:30 PM ET on ABC.

Miles Johnson returns to lead the NBA Countdown and NBA: After the Buzzer studio teams for second straight season

For the second straight season, Miles Johnson (host) will serve as the lead host for NBA Countdown and NBA: After the Buzzer. Johnson is a 2023 graduate of Morehouse College with a bachelor's degree in Communication Studies. Johnson will serve as the host during NBA Saturday Primetime on ABC and ABC Sunday Showcase.

Joining Johnson as analysts are Indiana Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton (in his first year as a NBA Countdown and NBA: After the Buzzer analyst), 2x All-AAC guard Damian Dunn (second season as a NBA Countdown/NBA: After the Buzzer analyst), Minnesota Lynx forward Diamond Miller (second season as a NBA Countdown/NBA: After the Buzzer analyst). Rounding out the lead cast is insider Chris Haynes, who will once again contribute to NBA Countdown and the NBA: After the Buzzer programs for the second straight year.

In addition to the lead studio team of Miles Johnson, Tyrese Haliburton, Damian Dunn, Diamond Miller & Chris Haynes, four other studio teams have been created for a grand total of five diverse and unique studio crews for the season ahead.

On Wednesday and Friday nights on ESPN, veteran host/reporter Malika Andrews (host) mans the studio desk with 2016 NBA Champion Tristan Thompson (analyst), three-time NBA champion Danny Green (analyst), 11-year NBA veteran Austin Rivers and longtime ESPN NBA insider/reporter Ramona Shelburne (insider).

Thursday nights on ESPN will have the studio team of Sam Prince (host), four-time NBA champion and Hall of Famer Shaquille O'Neal (analyst), three-time Sixth Man of the Year winner Jamal Crawford (analyst), four-time WNBA All-Star Skylar Diggins-Smith (analyst) & Kendra Andrews (insider) [yes, Kendra is the sister of fellow NBA on ESPN studio member Malika Andrews].

Tuesday nights on ESPN feature the studio cast of Joshua Counts (host), ESPN and New York Knicks analyst Monica McNutt (analyst), two-time NBA champion Isiah Thomas (analyst), Jayden Hardaway [yes, the son of the legendary Penny Hardaway] (analyst) & Dave McMenamin (insider).

And finally, to round out the studio crews, host/reporter Katie George (host), 15-year NBA veteran JJ Redick (analyst), 2008 NBA champion Kendrick Perkins (analyst), 2014 WNBA Rookie of the Year and two-time WNBA All-Star Chiney Ogwumike (analyst) and ESPN Senior NBA Insider Adrian Wojnarowski (insider) will be in the studio for ESPN's Monday night broadcasts and on other days of the week, when needed.

New Faces in 2024: Bob Myers, Andraya Carter, Jorge Sedano & Jacob Hardie join the Summer Series broadcast team
The NBA: Summer Series on ESPN/ABC welcomes several new faces to game coverage in 2024. These new additions include Bob Myers, Andraya Carter, Jorge Sedano and Jacob Hardie.

Bob Myers (analyst), two-time Executive of the Year who led the Golden State Warriors to four NBA championships, joins ESPN as a Summer Series game analyst working alongside play-by-play commentator Dave Pasch and reporter Cassidy Hubbarth.

Rising star Andraya Carter (analyst) is also a brand new addition to the Summer Series this season. The University of Tennessee graduate will be on a broadcast team with fellow newcomer Kate Scott (play-by-play) and longtime Summer Series reporter Shalise Coleman.

Longtime ESPN reporter/host Jorge Sedano (reporter) is added to the Summer Series roster for the first time, providing sideline reports for the broadcasting team of Teagan Brown (play-by-play) and Candace Parker (analyst).

Georgia running back Jacob Hardie makes history as the first full-time member of the Summer Series broadcasting team that is not directly involved (via a reporter or analyst) in the game of basketball. Hardie joins Hall of Famer play-by-play commentator Mike Breen, analyst JJ Redick and fellow analyst Doc Rivers, a new addition to the analyst roster, to call games regularly on Thursday nights.

The Year of the Returns: Mike Breen, Dave Pasch, Kevin Harlan, Reggie Miller, Doc Rivers & Doris Burke return to the Summer Series announcing lineup
For the 2024 season, the Summer Series is very pleased to announce the return of several commentators that helped the Summer Series grow and expand into it what it is today.

Kevin Harlan (play-by-play), who previously called games from 1991-2018, rejoins the announce team to call Thursday night games and the Eastern Conference Finals. Harlan will work with USC Trojans guard Boogie Ellis (analyst), Houston Rockets forward Cam Whitmore (analyst), and reporter Lisa Salters.

Hall of Famer play-by-play voice Mike Breen, who previously had a three-decade long run (1991-2022) of calling Summer Series action, is back for the 2024 season. Joining Breen on the broadcast team is JJ Redick (analyst), Doc Rivers (analyst) and Jacob Hardie (reporter). This crew will also handle Thursday night games and the NBA Playoffs.

Longtime Arizona Cardinals and ESPN play-by-play voice Dave Pasch returns following a five-year absence to once again call play-by-play of Summer Series games. Pasch had two prior stints with the Summer Series as a play-by-play commentator: 2006 & 2007, and then from 2009-2018. This marks Pasch's third tour of duty with the Summer Series. Pasch will join analyst Bob Myers and reporter Cassidy Hubbarth to call select games during the season, along with NBA Playoff assignments.

Sharpshooter and 18-year NBA veteran Reggie Miller will rejoin ESPN/ABC following a decade of exclusive work with Turner Sports. Miller had a long and prosperous run as a Summer Series broadcaster, working games from 2000 (while he was an active player with the Indiana Pacers) through 2014. Miller, who will continue to work for TNT alongside his work with ESPN/ABC, will be paired with play-by-play commentator Brian Anderson, fellow analyst Jim Jackson and reporter Stephanie Ready this season.

Naismith Basketball Hall of Famer Doris Burke is back on the Summer Series announcing roster. Burke, who previously called games from 1997-2014, returns for her 19th season covering Summer Series games. Grayson Singleton (play-by-play), Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum (analyst), and longtime Summer Series reporter Susan Reutter will join Burke to call games on a regular basis throughout the season.

14-year NBA player and 2008 NBA Champion Doc Rivers rejoined the Summer Series announcing team this season, following a previous stint from 1996-2002 as a studio analyst. However, this time, Rivers will turn his focus towards analyzing the action. Rivers is expected to work on Thursday night games alongside Naismith Basketball Hall of Famer Mike Breen, analyst JJ Redick & reporter Jacob Hardie.

New Secondary Broadcast Team

ESPN has created a new secondary broadcast team for the 2024 season. David Moskowitz (play-by-play), who has called games for the Summer Series for the past five seasons, will team up with 2016 National Champion Kris Jenkins (analyst), 2x WNBA MVP Breanna Stewart (analyst), and the incomparable, veteran, and seasoned reporter Susan Reutter. This team previously worked the 2023 NBA Finals on the radio and will now work together as a team for a full season, starting this season.

The team will begin their work during ESPN's opening week of NBA coverage in May. Their first regular season game is scheduled for Wednesday, May 22 at 7:00 PM ET on ESPN as Jayson Tatum and the Boston Celtics visit Jalen Brunson and the New York Knicks. They will also have the call for the Warriors vs. Rockets game on Sunday, May 26 at 2:00 PM ET on ABC, for the season premiere of ABC Sunday Showcase.

In addition to these two assignments, the four commentators will pair up for marquee events this season, including ABC Sunday Showcase, the In-Season Tournament and the NBA Playoffs.

Candace Parker and CJ McCollum transition from studio coverage to game coverage
Three-time WNBA champion Candace Parker and 11-year NBA veteran CJ McCollum transition from working in the studio to calling NBA games full-time. Parker will work with play-by-play commentator Teagan Brown and reporter Jorge Sedano. McCollum joins play-by-play announcer Dane Richardson and reporter Derryl Barnes for game commentary.

Ladies! Your turn is now! Multiple female commentators on the Summer Series announcing roster for the first time ever
For the first time in Summer Series history, two female commentators are on the Summer Series announcing roster.

One of the female play-by-play commentators is Teagan Brown, a 2023 Syracuse graduate, returning for her fifth season behind the microphone 🎙. Brown's broadcast partners for the season are three-time WNBA champion Candace Parker and reporter Jorge Sedano

The other female play-by-play commentator is Kate Scott, the current television play-by-play announcer for the Philadelphia 76ers. Kate joins the announcing team for the very first time this season. Scott leads the broadcast team that also features Sports Emmy nominee Andraya Carter and reporter Shalise Coleman, entering her seventh season of reporting.

Additional commentators will also be used for select games during the season.

Susan Reutter's 30th Anniversary Season

The Summer Series is excited to announce that longtime reporter Susan Reutter is celebrating her 30th anniversary with the Summer Series franchise! Reutter, who has called games since 1994, signed a new multi-year contract with ESPN/ABC this spring. This new contract extension means that Reutter will continue providing sideline reports during the preseason, regular season and the postseason (including the 2024 NBA Finals presented by YouTube TV on ESPN Radio). Reutter's 2024 broadcasting team has herself, David Moskowitz, Breanna Stewart and Kris Jenkins.

Reutter is the second longest tenured member of the Summer Series family (only behind Susan McDermott, who called games from 1990 through her 2023 retirement).

NBA Today

In addition to her role as one of the Summer Series live game coverage studio hosts, Malika Andrews (host) will continue to serve as the primary host NBA Today, ESPN's daily weekday afternoon NBA studio program, which is now entering its third season on the air.

Andrews will continue to be joined by analysts Kendrick Perkins, Chiney Ogwumike, Richard Jefferson and Danny Green. In addition, analysts Michael Wilbon, Stephen A. Smith, Becky Hammon, Andraya Carter, Scott Perry, Tristan Thompson will make select appearances. Also appearing on NBA Today are senior writers Ramona Shelburne and Zach Lowe, with Senior NBA Insider Adrian Wojnarowski and Senior NBA Reporter Brian Windhorst also contributing to the program.

On select days, Ogwumike, alongside Kris Budden, Nicole Briscoe, Kevin Negandhi & Scott Van Pelt, and others, will step in the hosting role, filling in for Andrews.

NBA Today will air Monday through Friday at 3:00 PM ET on ESPN throughout the entire 2024 season of the Summer Series.
