Welcome to another week of MLB on Fox: On Deck! Apologies for not getting this out either Monday or Tuesday; I’ve been busy with some work on the side. But we’re here! And I thank you for reading this article as we prepare for another installment of Fox Saturday Baseball as the dog days of summer continue to wind down.
On Saturday, August 29, Fox will regionalize two games across the country via their Baseball Night in America package, their long-standing MLB primetime weekend series. This week, you will watch either the Red Sox play the Yankees at Yankee Stadium in New York, or the Rangers drop in to American Family Field to battle the Brewers in interleague play. Which game will you be getting, and who’s set to call the action? Read on to find out the answers.
⮞ Red Sox vs. Yankees — Saturday, 7:00 PM ET on Fox & Fox One:
Mickey Gasper and the Boston Red Sox go head-to-head with Jazz Chisholm Jr. and the New York Yankees in a pivotal series for both of these American League East clubs on Saturday, August 29 at 7:00 PM ET on Fox and Fox One.
🎙 Fox Sports’ Kenny Albert (play-by-play), World Series champions Adam Wainwright (analyst) and AJ Pierzynski (analyst), and Emmy Award winner Ken Rosenthal (reporter) will call Red Sox-Yankees from Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York.
Safe to say, plenty of things happened in the most iconic MLB rivalry this year. New York swept Boston in late April at Fenway Park, split a pair of games in June, before the Red Sox responded with a four-game sweep at Fenway in late June to take a 5-4 season series lead.
Can the Red Sox track down their longtime AL East foe? The Red Sox are five games behind the Rays for first place in the AL East, and 1.5 GB behind the Yankees for second place. If Boston claims two wins in this weekend’s series (including a split doubleheader on Saturday), that means the Red Sox would pick up a key tiebreaker that could be valuable down the line. As of this moment, the Red Sox and Yankees would be playing each other in the Wild Card Series for the second consecutive year.
Keep an eye out for the Red Sox’s dynamic duo of Willson Contreras and Wilyer Abreu. These two are important pieces for Boston’s success following a rough part of their season. Contreras (26) and Abreu (22) account for the top two home run totals on the team. Additionally, Contreras and Abreu are the top two in runs batted in. Plus, Abreu leads the team in runs scored (74) and is second in hits (125), only trailing Ceddanne Rafaela (145).
⮞ Rangers vs. Brewers — Saturday, 7:00 PM ET/6:00 PM CT on Fox & Fox One:
We will watch some interleague baseball from American Family Field in Milwaukee as Brandon Nimmo and the Texas Rangers go up against Christian Yelich and the Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday, August 29 at 7:00 PM ET/6:00 PM CT on Fox and Fox One.
🎙 Fox Sports’ Jeff Levering (play-by-play), who calls Brewers games on local television, and Hall of Famer John Smoltz (analyst) will call Rangers-Brewers from American Family Field in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
This series is very important for BOTH Texas and Milwaukee, as both teams try to close in on a division championship (and the playoff berth that comes with it). Last year, the Rangers swept the Brewers in a three-game series played at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas in early September. This year, Texas & Milwaukee do battle from Cream City, with both sides needing a series victory. Texas is trying to get back into first place in the American League West, while the Brewers look to maintain the No. 1 seed in the National League (and hold off the Dodgers).
Who is going to win the American League West? The AL West is a division filled with sub .500 teams; I can assure you of that. Four of the five teams in this division are below .500 (with the Astros sitting right at .500 at 66-66). Can the Rangers get hot and win the AL West title? That remains to be seen. As for the Brewers, can they get to the mountaintop? Milwaukee has had plenty of good clubs over the past decade, but has yet to put together a World Series run. Milwaukee has not been to the World Series since the 1982 season.
Pay attention to Brewers first baseman Jake Bauers when you watch Saturday’s Rangers-Brewers game. The 30-year-old corner infielder leads his team in home runs (23) and runs batted in (75).
