The regular season will begin with a Week 1 singleheader on Sunday, September 8th: Ravens at Dolphins (1 p.m.), Chiefs at Jaguars (1 p.m.), Bills at Jets (1 p.m.), Titans at Browns (1 p.m.), Bengals at Seahawks (4 p.m.) & Colts at Chargers (4 p.m.).

  2. Jim Nantz/Tony Romo/Tracy Wolfson Predictions

    Week 1: Chiefs vs. Jaguars
    Week 2: Patriots vs. Dolphins
    Week 3: Saints vs. Seahawks
    Week 4: Vikings vs. Bears
Week 5: Ravens vs. Steelers or Patriots vs. Redskins
    Week 6: Cowboys vs. Jets
Week 7: Texans vs. Colts or Raiders vs. Packers
    Week 8: Browns vs. Patriots
Week 9: Packers vs Chargers, or if one of the teams is struggling at this point, Colts vs. Steelers could become the primary 4:25 game that week.
Week 10: This could be Nantz, Romo and Wolfson's "bye week" so Ian Eagle/Dan Fouts/Evan Washburn will cover the top game, Lions vs. Bears or possibly Chiefs vs. Titans.
    Week 11: Patriots vs. Eagles
    Week 12: Steelers vs. Bengals
Week 13: Bills vs. Cowboys (Thanksgiving) and Browns vs. Steelers
    Week 14: Chiefs vs. Patriots
    Week 15: Patriots vs Bengals
Week 16: Steelers vs. Jets for now, but could change due to flex scheduling
Week 17: Most likely Steelers vs. Ravens or Chargers vs. Chiefs if one of these matchups does not get flexed to Sunday Night Football

  4. Who do you think will Call Browns Vs Titans Week 1

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Titans-Browns in Week 1 I predict for CBS: Kevin Harlan and Rich Gannon. Maybe a outside shot of Jim Nantz and Tony Romo due to TEN-CLE being Odell Beckham Jr's debut as a Cleveland Brown.

      Delete
    2. Tamir Moore Orginally I had Jim Nantz and Tony Romo calling the Titans at Browns game. I think that's a possibly but since the Chiefs are a really good team and the Jaguars were just in the playoffs the season before that's a pretty good matchup. So CBS might just take a chance and let Nantz and Romo call that game.

  5. When is CBS Announcing There week 1 announcers??

    ReplyDelete
  6. CBS always takes so long to announce their week 1 announcers.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yeah, CBS has their annual seminar in August opposed to FOX having theirs in late July most seasons.

      Delete
  7. Hi, everyone. Greg Gumbel, Trent Green & Melanie Collins will form the CBS NFL #3 or C broadcast team this year. No Bruce Arians replacement. Their first 3 game assignments have been released. CBS is slated to have their NFL seminar this week with their first preseason game being Saints-Chargers this Sunday at 4 p.m. (ET).

Week 1: Indianapolis Colts at Los Angeles Chargers, 4:05 p.m. (ET)
Week 2: Buffalo Bills at New York Giants, 1 p.m. (ET)
Week 3: Pittsburgh Steelers at San Francisco 49ers, 4:25 p.m. (ET)

Some of those might surprise you. Do you think Gumbel-Green should gotten different Week 1 through Week 3 matchups? Or does this schedule seem right for this broadcast team. Please let me know.

    1. Week 1: I think this game was the right choice. Two playoff teams and two top quarterbacks from last year facing off on the west coast. Other options would have been Titans-Browns or Chiefs-Jaguars due to the Trent Green effect.

Week 2: CBS does not like going below C-team for big market teams, so I understand their decision to send them to the Bills-Giants game. A better option would have been Colts-Titans, in my opinion.

Week 3: This is one they got right 100%. Saints-Seahawks is the featured 4:25 matchup and CBS does not like having their #1 and #2 teams call games at the same time during doubleheader weeks, so they'll send Nantz/Romo/Wolfson to the Saints-Seahawks and most likely Eagle/Fouts/Washburn will cover the Jets-Patriots (bigger markets, rivalry game) or even Ravens-Chiefs (Jackson vs. Mahomes storyline). Steelers-49ers made the most sense (11 combined Super Bowl championships, great franchises, Ben vs. Garoppolo).

      Delete
  8. Tamir Moore. I'm surprised that they are calling the week 1 matchup between Colts vs Chargers at 4:05. I thought since that's the the main 4:05 game for CBS and Ian Eagle and Dan Fouts would be calling that game. Greg Gumbel use to be on the 2 team so maybe that's why he's announcing it. But I have to admit this makes week 1 very interesting when it comes to who's announcing the games for CBS because anything is possible now.

    1. Just because he is the number 3 PBP guy does not mean every single week he gets assigned the number 3 game. You have to look at the entire season. By the end of the year, all things considered in terms of exposure and game quality, I am sure Greg will be the number three guy throughout the entire course of the season.

  10. Huh, I wonder why CBS keeps employing Ian Eagle and Dan Fouts. I believe both are in their mid or late 70s by this point.

    1. Anonymous. Ian Eagle and Dan Fouts are nowhere near their mid or late 70's. Ian Eagle is only 50 years old. Dan Fouts is 68 years old (so in Fouts' case, he is starting to get up there in age).

  11. I read an article that Jay Feely will be a sideline reporter when he’s not calling a game with Tom McCarthy. He’s supposed to be working all 17 weeks.

  12. I know this is a little off topic, but it looks like CBS (and its sister channels) did not change their scoreboard after hosting the Super Bowl. I don't remember the last time this happened.

    1. Yeah, great point there. It's been quite some time tho!

      Delete
    2. This would be the fourth year they use it (they started with it in super bowl 50 and continued with it in the 2016 season). That is quite a long time to use a scoreboard. CBS used the same one from 2002-2005 and Fox had the same one from 2006-2009. I think NBC may have used their orignal SNF score graphic for four or five seasons as well.

  13. Jay Feely will be the sideline reporter week 2 for the Chargers Lions game. I just saw it on his Twitter

  14. Do you think CBS would send their A-team to cover the Chiefs vs. Ravens game in Week 3 instead of the Saints vs. Seahawks game, or are the announcer assignments set in stone?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Tony Interesting question, there. Ravens-Chiefs despite last year's meeting between Lamar Jackson and Patrick Mahomes being a instant classic (Chiefs winning in OT, of course) probably will not get Nantz & Romo. The A-team will be either covering Houston @ LA Chargers or New Orleans @ Seattle in the late afternoon window according to sources that I have.

    3. Richard Deitsch of the Athletic is the source that I have that confirms that Jim Nantz, Tony Romo & Tracy Wolfson will have Saints at Seahawks in Week 3 & Vikings at Bears in Week 4. Here is his article that confirms the assignments (yeah, it's behind a paywall) ...

  17. I wasn't sure which game Ian Eagle and Dan Fouts would be covering this week. Ravens-Chiefs is the best 1:00 PM game on the schedule, but they've also announced a lot of Jets/Patriots games in recent years so I wasn't sure where they would be. In the end, it does make sense they'll be in Kansas City since the Patriots are expected to win easily against the Jets without Darnold.

    1. I'm kind of surprised CBS sent Nantz/Romo/Wolfson to call the Broncos @ Chargers game. I thought they would call the Patriots @ Redskins game. The have yet to call a Pats game this season, and it is Week 4. I guess it's because the Redskins are winless and CBS thinks that this will not be a competitive game like DEN-LAC potentially could be.

    2. Tamir Moore, how can you be so sure? Maybe you are wrong about some of the games. But then again, maybe you know what you are doing/talking about.
