2018 NFL on CBS Schedule

Hi, folks! The 2018 NFL regular-season schedule was disclosed for the first time on Thursday night and with this, we have the schedule now for the NFL on CBS. CBS Sports, as you know, has been carrying NFL games longer than any other network. CBS enters their 59th season covering NFL games and their 21st covering (mostly) AFC games. CBS will begin their 2018 NFL coverage with two preseason games: Lions at Buccaneers (Friday, August 24th - 8:00 PM) and Saints at Chargers (Saturday, August 25th - 8:00 PM). Following this, CBS will start their 100+ games of action this year throughout the regular season and the postseason on Sunday, September 9th with the regional action of 5 games highlighted by the AFC champion New England Patriots hosting the Houston Texans with young quarterback Deshaun Watson. CBS will wrap up this season with their broadcast of Super Bowl LIII from Atlanta's Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Sunday, February 3rd. Each week, I will be creating the distribution & announcer posts can be found in the "Blog Archive" section of this website.

Now that you are all set, here's your first look at the 2018 NFL on CBS Schedule. With commentators and game schedule to be filled in/updated throughout the course of the year.

    1. Bruce Arians will be in the booth this year mostly with Greg, Trent, and either Jamie or Steve Tasker. But in Weeks 13 and 17, he will be in the booth with Jim Lampley as the eighth team.

  12. Do u think Ian Eagle Calls BUf-BAL for week 1 or does Kevin Harlan do it?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Eagle and Harlan will be doing both the Sunday afternoon games and the Monday night doubleheader the following evening during Week 1 (NYJ-DET, LA-OAK). I think that Eagle & Fouts get assigned to Chiefs-Chargers, because Eagle will then receive Rams-Raiders game on radio the following night. I think that Harlan/Gannon will do Bills-Ravens. No way will CBS will assign Nantz/Romo or Gumbel/Green to this game.

  16. Nantz/Romo/Wolfson predictions

    Week 1: Texans vs. Patriots
    Week 2: Patriots vs. Jaguars
    Week 3: Chargers vs. Rams
    Week 4: Saints vs. Giants
Week 5: Raiders vs. Chargers or Broncos vs. Jets (if these teams are good by this time). JAX and KC are both small media markets so they won't get A-team announcers
    Week 6: Jaguars vs. Cowboys
    Week 7: Cowboys vs. Redskins
    Week 8: Broncos vs Chiefs
    Week 9: Steelers vs. Ravens
    Week 10: Seahawks vs. Rams
Week 11: Bye week most likely like last year. If not maybe Texans vs. Redskins depending the teams records at the time.
Week 12: Bears vs. Lions (Thanksgiving). Steelers vs. Broncos depends on the teams records at the time. Could also get Eagle/Fouts/Washburn as they would be the #1 team that day.
    Week 13: Chargers vs. Steelers
    Week 14: Patriots vs. Dolphins
    Week 15: Patriots vs. Steelers
    Week 16: Steelers vs. Saints
Week 17: Jets vs. Patriots or Chargers vs. Broncos (if the game has playoff implications)

  31. Could Bears Patriots be flexed to 325 pm game

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. If the 3:25PM CT game wasn't Cowboys-Redskins, it probably would be flexed to that slot or SNF, but the Rams-49ers, even without Richard Sherman and Jimmy Garoppolo is still a more appealing matchup, so Patriots-Bears will probably stay a 12:00PM CT. They cross-flexed this game into this slot so Nantz/Romo/Wolfson and CBS could cover their two Cowboy games for the season. Under the old rules, the game would have been the Titans-Cowboys, but that will be a MNF game instead.

      Delete
    2. Even though the Bears' game with the Patriots next Sunday gets the "NFL on CBS" treatment next Sunday at Noon (CT), I doubt the NFL will flex that game to a later kickoff time. Those 2 games in the 3:25P (CT) window, albeit NFC matchups with the Cowboys/Redskins & Rams/49ers, look awfully appetizing and possibly sneaky good.

Considering it's New England that the Bears will be dealing with next Sunday, I think Ian Eagle, Dan Fouts & Evan Washburn might get that game at Soldier Field or possibly Kevin Harlan, Rich Gannon & Northwestern's own Steve Tasker get that game instead. I can't think of any other crew, especially when considering Greg Gumbel, Trent Green, Bruce Arians & Melanie Collins are London-bound for that Titans/Chargers' game. The NFL is hell bent on getting a team in London full time, despite the logical & financial issues involved.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. This is a tough call. I think if Eagle/Fouts/Washburn do Pats-Bears the week before (which they probably will) they will probably do the Jets-Bears game too because they would already be familiar with the Bears team and CBS wouldn't want to switch it up. CBS will have to decide which is more important to them: promoting Patrick Mahomes or Sam Darnold vs. Khalil Mack and the largest and 3rd largest media markets in the NFL in New York and Chicago, respectively. You can't go wrong either way. Both games are almost guaranteed to have the #1 and #2 crews covering them.

  38. Bengals vs Chiefs got moved to Sunday night & the Rams vs 49ers are moved to 4:25pm on CBS

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It's the earliest that a matchup has been flexed since NBC Sports got back into the NFL business in 2006 with "Sunday Night Football". Normally, NBC waits until Week 10 to use its flex option regarding its "Sunday Night Football" schedule.

I think what happened to Niners' QB Jimmy Garoppolo tearing his ACL & MCL at Kansas City had a lot to do with NBC bailing out of Rams/49ers and replacing it with Bengals/Chiefs in Week 7. The Niners were, for lack of a better word, a sexy pick going into this NFL season. That's no longer the case.

Unfortunately for the Niners, America will be stuck watching backup C.J. Beathard and the Niners Monday night when they face Aaron Rodgers and the Packers in Green Bay. ESPN wishes they had the ability to flex out of a game that no longer looks attractive to them.

I guess CBS did not want to have a struggling Broncos team be the primary matchup for next week.

    4. Very interesting that "NFL on CBS" has assigned its #1 crew to Soldier Field next Sunday for the Jets/Bears' game. I'm sure 2 of the storylines that Jim Nantz, Tony Romo & Tracy Wolfson will discuss involves the 2 young quarterbacks in the Bears' Mitch Trubisky & the Jets' Sam Darnold, not to mention what LB Khalil Mack's addition has meant to the Bears' defense.

    3. That's the game that'll air in Chicago in that 3:25P (CT) window you're referring. Quite frankly, as much as Bears' fans can't stand the Packers, there are a couple of potential storylines in that Dolphins/Packers' game. One of them of course is what appears to be the growing friction between Green Bay HC Mike McCarthy & QB Aaron Rodgers. The other...The Dolphins won an ugly one over the Jets last Sunday and Brock Osweiler might be the QB for the immediate future. I still can't believe the Dolphins beat the Bears in OT down in that Miami heat & humidity!
