  5. Why is there not a late afternoon game in Week 11?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Fox will more than likely either move one of their 1 pm games (DAL-ATL, MIN-CHI, TB-NYG, PHI-NO or CAR-DET) to that slot or cross-flex an game over from CBS ...

      Delete
    2. The game that's moved would most likely be DAL-ATL or PHI-NO with the darkhorse being MIN-CHI.

      Delete
    3. I think it'll be Phi vs NO Dallas is gonna struggle this year they'll remain at 1pm

      Delete
    4. Yeah. Cowboys-Falcons doesn't deserve no where near 4:25. I think Eagles at Saints has better appeal tho. The Saints are coming up and Eagles are defending SB champions. Show Philly and New Orleans some love. Besides Dallas ALWAYS get lead DH games all the time because of Fox = Cowboys thing, let someone get an lead DH or two. Dallas is America's Team, we get it. Don't show Dallas as lead DH every game time Fox, that's too much if one team.

  27. I just saw a promo for the Week 1 games on FS1. It had the Jaguars-Giants game as the primary early game, but they have the #3 team calling the game. Why is this game the primary game over 49ers-Vikings?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Because of Giants RB Saquon Barkley making his "official" NFL debut and the Jaguars' defense getting ever better. Remember, Kenny/Ronde did the Week 1 "primary" early game of Eagles-Redskins last year while the #2 crew of Burkhardt/Davis worked Falcons-Bears.

      Delete
    2. It just says that for some reason, but it is often nominal how they present it. The most viewed early game is SF-Min.

  28. Will Thom Brennaman fill in for Joe Buck when Buck does the MLB Postseason? Thom has done so the past 9 years.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I would have to think that Thom Brennaman will get field promoted, sort of speak, to the #1 "NFL on FOX" crew with Troy Aikman & sideline reporter Erin Andrews while Joe Buck is on "MLB on FOX" playoff duty next month. I also think that'll be the plan for FOX's new "Thursday Night Football" partnership with NFL Network.

I also believe that Kenny Albert will move up to #2, working with Charles Davis & Pam Oliver while Kevin Burkhardt is in Los Angeles studio hosting NLDS, NLCS & the World Series pre & postgame. For the record, FOX, FOX Sports 1 & MLB Network will have the National League Playoffs, while TBS has the American League this year.

      Delete
    2. Thom has a chance of not having to fill in at all this year. Weeks 6-7 are singleheaders for FOX so the #1 crew will not call a Sunday game, and all of the Thursdays are travel days for the National League Playoffs so Joe may be able to do all of the TNF games. Better yet, if the Dodgers make the world series, with AGOTW in week 8 being in LA, there is a possibility that Joe could call both Packers-Rams and the World Series on that Sunday (he's done it before in San Fransisco with the 30 minute in between travel time). He could do it if the dodgers make it because of the Rams. Otherwise Thom fills in Week 8

      Delete
    3. If I remember correctly, Joe Buck worked the marquee game between the Giants & 49ers at Candlestick Park that Sunday afternoon in October. No sooner did the NFL game wrap up, Buck did like a native San Franciscan (?) on a cable car and made his way to AT&T Park for the Rangers/Giants' World Series Game that same night. Talk about a long day's journey into night...

      Delete
    4. ABSHARK, you are correct about Buck calling two games in one day. Here's the story.

This is the day which Buck worked both NFL and MLB: Sunday, October 14, 2012. Buck worked the Week 6 Giants-49ers America's Game of the Week at 4:25 PM with Troy Aikman & Pam Oliver. Then, traveled on cable car to AT&T Park for Game 1 of the National League Championship Series between the St. Louis Cardinals and the San Francisco Giants with Tim McCarver, Ken Rosenthal & Erin Andrews.

      Delete
    5. Thanks for correcting me on that second part. I thought it was a World Series game, not Cardinals/Giants NLCS Game 1. I definitely remember Joe Buck working the late "NFL on FOX" game in Giants/49ers and then traveling on a cable car and arriving minutes later at AT&T Park to call the MLB Playoff game that same Sunday night. At that time, I don't think FS1 has much access to MLB Playoff games like they do now.

    1. It will most likely be Albert-Barber, and Stockton-Schlereth will call the Seahawks-Cardinals game. Honestly if the combined records of the Browns and Raiders are better than the Lions and Cowboys, Burkhardt/Davis/Oliver should call the game, but that would never happen, even if DET and DAL are both 0-3 and CLE is 2-0-1 and OAK is 2-1 going into their matchups.

    1. It might be the crew calling Bears/Dolphins this Sunday on the "NFL on FOX". This Browns/Buccaneers' game next Sunday probably has Brian Custer, Greg Jennings & Doug Gottlieb's names written all over it. I know that Custer, Ben Leber & Jennifer Hale have called a couple of college football games on FOX & FOX Sports 1 respectively. I'm not sure if that's still the plan.

I think Bears/Dolphins this Sunday would have gotten a better crew if Chris Myers, Daryl "Moose" Johnston and Laura Okmin aren't going to London for Seahawks/Raiders. That being said, I've read some great things about Custer, not to mention reading about his health scare pertaining to prostate cancer at a very early age.

      Delete
    2. Dick Stockton would likely call the Browns vs Bucs matchup & not Custer since he'd be back calling College Football & Fox has the single header in Week 7 with 5 games with crews 2-6 calling games with Albert/Davis Rosen/Barber TBA/Spielman Myers/Johnston & Stockton/Schlereth

      Delete
    3. It's just a guess at this point. That's all it is. I've noticed that Dick Stockton, Mark Schlereth & Jennifer Hale have called mainly "NFL on FOX" games out West so far this season, including the Bears/Cardinals' game in Glendale, AZ a couple of weeks ago.

I can understand the logic considering that Schlereth, I believe, co-hosts a morning sports talk radio show in Denver. I've also noticed the former Broncos' Super Bowl Champion lineman is a frequent guest on FOX Sports 1's live sports debate shows such as "Skip & Shannon Undisputed" & "Speak For Yourself", both based in Los Angeles. I don't know if Stockton has a home out West either.

I remember reading before they died a few years ago, 2 veteran football broadcasters were specifically assigned games either out West or very close to their respective homes. The late, great Pat Summerall continued to call "NFL on FOX" games regionally from 2002-06 and the annual Cotton Bowl from 2007-10. Summerall called those games in large part because they weren't too far from his home in Dallas and it was prior to his death in 2013.

Finally, I remember Keith Jackson called college football games on ABC until 2006. Before he retired completely that April, Jackson called mainly college games close to his California home. Jackson passed away this past January.

Based on this article, it is confirmed that Thom Brennaman will call Packers-Rams if a game 5 happens in the world series. This is the evidence:
One game a day should also be an easy challenge for Buck. In 2012 in San Francisco, he did a Giants-49ers game and less than an hour later was in the booth for Game 1 of the NCLS between the Cardinals and Giants.
There were rumblings that Buck was going to repeat that Sunday with the Rams hosting the Packers at the LA Memorial Coliseum and then a possible Game 5 at Dodger Stadium. But Buck said he would stick to just baseball due to Los Angeles traffic and an already heavy schedule.
He will call Dolphins-Texans on Thursday night though since that is a travel day for the World Series. If there isn't a game 5 he might call it. The NFL should release the announcers later today so we will find out if there is a chance or not.

    1. Brennaman will do one of three things this weekend: Here's your chart of possibilities!
1.) Call no games this weekend because Kevin Kugler is taking his spot ...
2.) Call MIA/HOU on Thursday night if the World Series has a postponement either tonight or tomorrow ..
3.) Call GB/LAR on Sunday afternoon if the World Series goes to a game 5 ... (or 4)

    2. I think for this week only, I'd keep Joe Buck on the World Series with John Smoltz, Ken Rosenthal & Tom Verducci on this World Series matchup between the Dodgers & Red Sox. Thom Brennaman gets field promoted to the #1 crew working the "Thursday Night Football" matchup with Dolphins/Texans in Houston & the Packers/Rams' game for "America's Game of the Week" Sunday in Los Angeles. That's what I would do if I ran FOX Sports.

According to the weekly capsules which come straight from the NFL Thom is calling the game on Sunday regardless if the World Series is a sweep or not. I think this settles everything except for Thursday, and I think Joe will call it since a postponement of a game in the World Series is not likely based on the forecast (the rain is supposed to stop tonight and tomorrow it will be dry)

  66. Any word on which New York team's game in week 16 is moved from FOX to CBS? With the Colts still having an outside chance at a wild-card spot, maybe FOX decides to keep Giants-Colts with Packers-Jets being moved to CBS? Or does the NFL make that decision and not the networks? Neither game seems that compelling, but just wondering what will happen with these two games.

  67. I think we'll have a better idea in the next couple of weeks where to find some of these late season NFL games. If the NFC North still isn't decided by the final Sunday of the regular season December 30th, that Bears/Vikings' game currently on the "NFL on FOX" could easily get moved from Noon (CT) to 3:25P (CT) so that it could get the "America's Game of the Week" billing. There's also a chance that NBC Sports might want that game for its "Sunday Night Football" finale. I think other than the Rams clinching the NFC West and still having a shot at home field throughout, the playoff picture still isn't settled by any means. The only teams that are out of the playoff money are the Raiders, Jets, Jaguars & 49ers.

    1. There may not be another SNF in Week 17 like last year. But you're definitely right Bears vs Vikings could get moved to 4:25pm along potentially Panthers vs Saints

    2. There will be SNF on NBC, but its only one game.

  68. Hello, everyone! GB-NYJ in Week 16 will remain on FOX! NYG-IND in Week 16 will now be aired on CBS. Both games are scheduled to kick off at 1 p.m. ET. The NFL announced this move today. No other game changes for Week 16.

    1. Chris Myers [play-by-play], Daryl Johnston [analyst] & Laura Okmin [reporter] will be calling the Green Bay Packers at Chicago Bears on Sunday, December 16th at 1 p.m. ET on FOX.

To answer your two other questions:
Buck/Aikman will be calling Chargers-Chiefs on Thursday night, no Sunday game this week from them. Burkhardt/Davis will be calling Dallas @ Indianapolis.

    2. I think it's the third time that Bears' fans will get the Chris Myers/Daryl "Moose" Johnston/Laura Okmin trio on the "NFL on FOX" this season. Where I'm at in Chicago, while Myers has been very impressed with the Bears' defense, a lot of fans aren't exactly thrilled that FOX Sports is sending its #5 broadcast team to Soldier Field this Sunday. Considering what's at stake if the Bears actually win this game Sunday, there are many fans that believe that FOX should've assigned a better crew even if it's not a doubleheader this weekend. I think if it was, I would think Joe Buck, Troy Aikman, Erin Andrews & possibly even Kristina Pink would've been assigned this Packers/Bears' game instead of Myers, Johnston & Okmin. As is, Buck, Aikman & the two ladies on the sidelines get a doozy on "Thursday Night Football" with Chargers/Chiefs in Kansas City. That game should be a doozy.

    1. That's a real possibility, even though the next 2 Sundays are not "NFL on FOX" doubleheaders. What will be different the next 2 weekends is that there will be Saturday NFL games. I think FOX is producing these games for NFL Network.

Curt Menefee, who we all know usually hosts the "FOX NFL Sunday" pregame from Los Angeles, will be doing play-by-play the next 2 Saturdays on NFLN. He, Nate Burleson, Steve Mariucci & sideline reporter Melissa Stark will have the games this Saturday in Texans/Jets at 3:30P (CT) as well as Redskins/Titans December 22nd, also at 3:30P (CT) on NFLN. I think what will be interesting is whether Menefee returns to L.A. in time for the "FOX NFL Sunday" pregame shows after those games end.

Mike Tirico, on loan from NBC Sports, will call Browns/Broncos this Saturday night with NFLN/Westwood One Sports' Kurt Warner & sideline reporter Peter Schrager this Saturday night at 7:20P (CT) as well as Ravens/Chargers December 22nd.

I think what's curious this weekend is that Joe Davis, not Tim Brando, will be calling Lions/Bills with his regular College Football partner Brady Quinn & sideline reporter Megan Olivi. Not to suggest that the game means much. A crew like that usually gets saddled with a dog of a game with both teams playing out the string. Woof!

    2. ABSHARK, one small note to remember. Week 17 will be a NFL on FOX doubleheader. Keep in mind that NFL assigns FOX and CBS Week 17 doubleheaders (as it's been the practice since 2006, basically giving all stations a "free" doubleheader on either broadcast network). Week 16 is a FOX singleheader.

    3. Absolutely. It's the ONLY weekend of the season where FOX & CBS have NFL doubleheaders. The only question about Week #17 is whether NBC will have a "Sunday Night Football" finale. If I remember correctly, NBC didn't have a game that was "SNF" worthy to wrap up the regular season last year. Usually, they'd feature the 1 game that still has playoff meaning. I think the only question about Week #17 will be if all the playoff spots are filled and it's a question of playoff positioning.

    4. If NBC does not get a game for Week 17 like last year it's probably best to do the best games at 4:25pm like last year. Remember when Buffalo needed to win they did & Baltimore had to win they went down to the wire & lost at the end I'm expecting that type of scenario to happen again

    5. As far as Fox crews are concerned i know Joe Davis & Brady Quinn are not available since they're on the call for Mich St. vs Oregon on NYE i wonder whose gonna be the 8th analyst if Fox indeeds remains with 8 games would it be Greg Jennings or Jeff Fisher

Dick Stockton & Mark Schlereth will be on the call for Atlanta vs Carolina

  72. They called the Seahawks/49ers' game Sunday in Santa Clara, CA. They might as well stay out there this Sunday, too. Thom Brennaman, Chris Spielman & Shannon Spake call Bears/49ers this Sunday on "NFL on FOX". That's the word from Chicago Tribune Bears' writer Brad Biggs via Twitter Monday morning.
