  • Welcome back, football 😊! CBS Sports begins its 2026 regular season NFL coverage with a marquee doubleheader on Sunday, September 13, with six games spread across two time windows, highlighted by Bills-Texans at 1:00 PM ET and Packers-Vikings at 4:25 PM ET.
  • The newly redesigned “The NFL Today” studio team of James Brown, Nate Burleson, Bill Cowher, Russell Wilson & Kyle Long will preview the Week 1 slate during a special on-site edition of the iconic pregame show from Minneapolis, Minnesota, live on CBS at 12:00 PM ET/11:00 AM CT.

Hi, everyone! I hope you guys had a wonderful summer! Welcome to the premiere article for Season #3 of the NFL on CBS: Field Pass! Once again, a single centralized article will serve as your go-to for everything you need before Sunday contests on CBS throughout the 2026 NFL regular season.

This week, the 2026 NFL regular season kicks off with an exciting Week 1 “NFL on CBS” doubleheader this Sunday, September 13, as everyone begins their respective journeys toward Super Bowl LXI in Los Angeles in February. CBS has six NFL games that they regionally televise split between two time slots this Sunday. In the early 1:00 PM ET slot, you have Bills vs. Texans, Ravens vs. Colts, Jets vs. Titans, and Browns vs. Jaguars. Then, in the late 4:25 PM ET slot, games include Packers vs. Vikings and Cardinals vs. Chargers. Here is your NFL on CBS preview for Week #1 of the 2026 NFL Regular Season (Sunday, September 13):

🞸 Pregame (12:00 PM ET) — The NFL Today (Live from Minneapolis):
Sunday’s Week 1 NFL on CBS coverage begins the 52nd season premiere of “The NFL Today”, the iconic pregame show that prepares viewers for upcoming football action on CBS. This week, the show goes on the road to Minneapolis, Minnesota, ahead of the NFC North showdown between the Green Bay Packers and the Minnesota Vikings (4:25 PM ET/3:25 PM CT). 

Veteran host James Brown anchors the program, joined by Hall of Fame head coach Bill Cowher and 11-year NFL veteran Nate Burleson. This season, the program welcomes two new analysts — Super Bowl champion Russell Wilson and former NFL offensive lineman Kyle Long. “The NFL Today” will feature highlights, analysis, feature stories, predictions, interviews, and the latest information from around the league.

🞸 Early Games (1:00 PM ET) — Bills-Texans, Ravens-Colts, Jets-Titans & Browns-Jaguars:
To kick off the doubleheader, CBS will regionally televise four games in the early 1:00 PM ET window. Most of the country will see a riveting AFC clash as 2024 NFL MVP Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills square off against C.J. Stroud and the Houston Texans down in Houston. RB Derrick Henry and the Baltimore Ravens try to shake off a devastating ending to the 2025 campaign when they open against three-time Pro Bowl running back Jonathan Taylor and the Indianapolis Colts over in Indianapolis. ⮞ Bills vs. Texans — Sunday, 1:00 PM ET on CBS:
Two-time Pro Bowler Will Anderson Jr. and the hungry Houston Texans open the franchise’s 25th season with a home game versus five-time Pro Bowler Dion Dawkins and the Buffalo Bills from the newly renamed Reliant Stadium in Houston, Texas on Sunday, September 13 at 1:00 PM ET (12:00 PM CT) on CBS. Both franchises made the postseason in 2025, with both clubs getting eliminated in the Divisional Round. The Bills lost a heartbreaking OT to the Broncos, 33-30, in the Divisional Playoffs while the Patriots handled the Texans, 28-16, in their divisional round match.

Ian Eagle (play-by-play) will call Bills-Texans from Houston, joined by new partner and former NFL offensive lineman Ross Tucker (analyst) and veteran sportscaster Evan Washburn (reporter), beginning another year covering the sidelines.

Following the early games, stay tuned for the late-afternoon slate on CBS, starting at 4:25 PM ET. In this window, NFC North foes face off as Christian Watson and the Green Bay Packers visit Justin Jefferson and the Minnesota Vikings, or Derwin James Jr. and the Los Angeles Chargers host the Arizona Cardinals. Read on for game capsules regarding CBS’ late afternoon Week 1 slate.

⮞ Packers vs. Vikings — Sunday, 4:25 PM ET (3:25 PM CT) on CBS:
Josh Metellus and the Minnesota Vikings welcome Jordan Love and the Green Bay Packers in a Week 1 NFC North matchup from U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota on Sunday, September 13 at 4:25 PM ET (3:25 PM CT) on CBS. Last year, Green Bay and Minnesota split their regular season series 1-1. Green Bay finished 2025 with a 9-7-1 record and made the playoffs, eventually losing 31-27 to the Bears in the Wild Card Round. Minnesota, meanwhile, finished 9-8 last season and missed the postseason cut.

Jim Nantz (play-by-play) will call Packers-Vikings alongside three-time Defensive Player of the Year winner JJ Watt (analyst), with Tracy Wolfson (reporter) roaming the sidelines. It should be noted that Watt is replacing Tony Romo, who is currently on leave from CBS Sports following an OWI arrest in Wisconsin earlier this year.
